I tried to connect to the huawei cdma EC325 modem. using the network manager applet. System asked which tpe of connection i selected cdma and gave the username and password for the account and the password for my opensuse account.Still i cannot connect to the internet using huawei ec325 modem.How to rectify the problem What shall i do next.

I can not get NetworkManager to handle my Huawei E220 usb modem. I have searched forums and tried a lot of things. I have just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to openSUSE 11.3 using zypper. It seems to work fine except that umtsmon stopped to work, so for now my laptop has no connetion to internet at all. Here are some information about my settings:

i'm running Kubuntu karmic and i've been using a 3G Huawei E1552 modem to connect to the internet, everything was going well when suddenly my modem stopped working. I've tried reconfiguring everything, i even reinstalled kubuntu from scratch with no success.Here's a part of my /var/log/debug

I have clear internet service and use a USB modem to connect to the internet. Clear does not make a Linux driver yet... I can connect to the Internet through VMware desktop with SuSE as the guest OS. However, I want to connect my other system to a router and my other PC. Would I be able to access the web with the linux box? I have a free NIC card on both pc's, I'm just not savvy enough to network them so if anyone could explain or tell me if it is even posssible to network the 2, My goal is to run SuSE on one, WIN7 on the other and access the internet from both.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy machine is running on a dual-boot Windows Vista/openSUSE 11.2 scenario. I have been trying to get my Huawei E1550 to work on Linux for the past few days trying numerous methods suggested in other forums from people with the same problem, but I have not produced any fruitful results.
Plugging in the USB modem results in Linux detecting it as a CD-ROM. I have installed usb_modeswitch in attempt to switch it to a modem, but Linux still fails to recognize it. Windows Device Manager and lsusb both give ProductID=1001 and VendorID=12d1 connected to USB1. I'm guessing since Windows detects the correct IDs, the Linux versions should also be correct. In any case, I ran usb_modeswitch with the Default IDs for /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf, which gave 0x1446 as the ProductID, not 0x1001. Upon running usb_modeswitch, the product ID could not be found so the program fails and quits asking if it's connected (and it is).
Just to test, I also ran wvdial which unsurprisingly did not detect the modem and could not send the init strings. All commands were done using root privileges. Also note that when after usb_modeswitch is run and upon plugging in the USB, NetworkManager pops up near the tray saying "attached" but still shows the device as a CD-ROM.
I am new to Linux and opensuse is lovely to me . However i have a problem, I dual boot windows and OpenSuse 10.3(because it plays mp3 out of the box) I actually tried newer versions but the problem is that I cant install this Huawei E1752 usb modem. I have failed people. Please help me. I need to use it for internet.

I'm using kNetworkManager on my OpenSuse 11.2 on PC.
Everything works fine there with the following settings:
1. Make a new GSM Connection in kNetworkManager and enter settings there
2. Edit etc/sysconfig/network/config file and set .....DNS_Policy from "auto" to ""
3. Enter openDNS to /etc/resolv.conf (nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)
It works like that on my PC.
I did the same on my laptop. The modem connects fine, but the DNS'es ain't resolved. So skype etc will work, but no pages will open in Firefox for example.
What else should I need to do to make this work?
It's weird it works the SAME way on my PC, but doesn't on my laptop.

I am having desperate problems trying to connect to the net with a Huawei E173 USB modem. I was using Linux Mint 7 which I upgraded to version 9 today to see if that would fix the problem but it made no difference. Basically it seems the only time I can connect to the net in linux is if I use the modem in windows and then restart straight into linux, in that case it sometimes gets recognised and works. So at least I know it can work.

trying to make my 3G modem (a ZTE MF622) work with OpenSUSE 11.2. KNetworkManager is recognizing it (so I suppose it's not on Storage Mode), I can create the 3G connection and connect, but I can't navigate on any sites (ping gives "unknown host" for any IP). Also, the KNetworkManager applet doesn't show anything on fields "Name servers" and "Domains" (they are blank). Tried some instructions from the internet here and there, but didn't have any luck.

An ATT technician came to my home and swapped out the modem/router for the identical model. I changed the ESSID and WEP code to match the new unit and everything was fine with the following wireless units: a wireless desktop, two cellphones, three wireless Archos tablets, and a couple of e-reader tablets. So all seemed to be fine wirelessly. However...
My laptop (SuSE 11.0, KDE3) simply won't connect no matter what I do. I changed the ESSID and WEP info in the lappy exactly as was done with the other wireless devices named above. But no good. The lappy does see the modem/router (a good, strong signal appears in KNetworkManager). But it seems as if the modem/router is rejecting the lappy's attempted handshake using the new ESSID and/or WEP information.
I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the lappy's wireless card, so I took it to a Starbucks to see if it would connect there on an open network, and it did without problem. So the lappy's wireless card appears to be working fine. It just won't talk to the encrypted modem/router at home. Here are the settings on the lappy. Hopefully something here is easily identified as the culprit. With all the clicking I've done it certainly is possible that I ticked something that should not have been ticked and just don't realize what I've done.

Worst of all, Open SUSE cannot detect the USB modem device. I am currently new to Linux and I may be overlooking something. I also clearly figured that Linux online is better than Linux offline from what I read from blogs and numerous posts. View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to move from Windows to OpenSUSE. I have installed OpenSUSE 11.2, and am having a hard time trying to connect to the internet using my nokia E65. I have tried to configure the modem thru YaST and it keeps showing that my nokia E65 modem is not configured, but adds another modem every time I configure using the edit button i.e. modem0, modem1 etc.
When i finish the configuration I get pop ups on the bottom right conner:

WLAN interface attached
Network interface attached
But nothing happens afterwards. When I connect the phone it shows that it is recognized as a modem (probably). but when I click on the icon so it connects to my service provider "econet" it just says activating with a red x in the conner, and still nothing happens!

The configuration on NetworkManager worked prefect and the there is no problem connecting. The problem is when I disconnect the modem manually, I am unable to reconnect it via NetworkManager. I have to physically unplug the modem and insert it again, then only I can connect to the internet again

I set the modem back to PPPoE the problem was with the DNS server of the ISP so using ifup i set the dns t 8.8.8.8 (google) the connection is back , but when i set the modem back as a bridge slow internet does the router know that my dns is 8.8.8.8 or i should set the dns on the router ? I can't see an option to set the dns on the router ( i just enter my username and password from the isp to use PPPoE mode ) by the way i called the isp support they kept telling me to restart , i told them i did but i never restarted my pc . I'm sure if i tell them i'm running linux they will blame the os !
