Are there detailed instructions for Suse 11.2, anywhere, on installing a hardware dial-up modem and configuring it to get an Internet connection?
View 2 RepliesI recently installed Open SUSE 11.2. It's a pretty cool OS. Anyway,sadly enough, I cannot access my internet connection via my USB internet modem. Worst of all, Open SUSE cannot detect the USB modem device. I am currently new to Linux and I may be overlooking something. I also clearly figured that Linux online is better than Linux offline from what I read from blogs and numerous posts. So in essence, I cannot fully appreciate the true power of Open SUSE 11.2 offline. Would there be a way to install my USB modem device?
View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to move from Windows to OpenSUSE. I have installed OpenSUSE 11.2, and am having a hard time trying to connect to the internet using my nokia E65. I have tried to configure the modem thru YaST and it keeps showing that my nokia E65 modem is not configured, but adds another modem every time I configure using the edit button i.e. modem0, modem1 etc.
When i finish the configuration I get pop ups on the bottom right conner:
Notification from network management
WLAN interface attached
Network interface attached
But nothing happens afterwards. When I connect the phone it shows that it is recognized as a modem (probably). but when I click on the icon so it connects to my service provider "econet" it just says activating with a red x in the conner, and still nothing happens!
The following are the screenshots (still not sure how to attach files on this forum), may someone assist, with that too.
I really want to move from Windows but this is what's stopping me. the sooner I connect to the Internet through my phone, the sooner I leave Windows, since it's the only way I can connect to the internet.

I have an external usb dial up modem. lsusb shows: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2001:f10d D-Link Corp. [hex] Accent Communications Modem How do I set this up? It probably needs a driver, how do I check it, or better yet, can I get yast to tell me if it recognizes the modem or needs firmware? I know linux and dial up is like the seventh circle of hell. Just wondering if there was a snowball's chances of getting this working. Sorry if this is the wrong section to ask in. Seemed like as good as any when I checked.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a US Robotics serial modem, and I have smpppd enabled in system services, with wvdial and kppp installed. When I try to set the modem up using yast, I keep getting hung up by the different screens. First a screen that asks if I need to dial a number to get out. I have to dial 9, so I have that entered. Then a screen that asks for "country" and "provider."
When I try to enter anything, nothing shows in the boxes, so I go to a screen that asks for the phone number, provider, user name and password. When I enter those, it goes to a screen that wants "Connection Parameters", with default settings and the "buttons" at the bottom of the screen "muted," or flattened out, i.e. unusable. That makes it impossible for me to set the information as saved, so it's back to the beginning and sart over, with the same results over and over. How do I get the modem so it dials out?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an adsl modem acting as a bridge to my router my setup was working well for more than year now , but then the internet went slow . I set the modem back to PPPoE the problem was with the DNS server of the ISP so using ifup i set the dns t 8.8.8.8 (google) the connection is back , but when i set the modem back as a bridge slow internet does the router know that my dns is 8.8.8.8 or i should set the dns on the router ? I can't see an option to set the dns on the router ( i just enter my username and password from the isp to use PPPoE mode ) by the way i called the isp support they kept telling me to restart , i told them i did but i never restarted my pc . I'm sure if i tell them i'm running linux they will blame the os !
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a devolo MicroLink 56k Fun LAN modem, which I could configure in openSuse 11.2 as an DSL device. With 11.2 it worked fine. But it isn't possible in 11.3 to configure it, because I cannot set the dial up internet provider phone number for this DSL device.I also tried it to configure it as a modem, but then it used the /dev/modem device, which is the wrong device for this LAN modem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to configure a Gprs dial up connection through my Nokia N91 to surf internet in openSUSE. I am using openSUSE 11.2 installed as a guest OS in ORACLE VIRTUALBOX (virtual pc) in windows host. I connected my mobile to openSUSE using a data cable and the phone modem is detected. I configured Wvdial.conf file and used Wvdial to connect to the internet. After performing many changes I finally managed to get a successful connection, when still I cannot surf any webpage in the browser.
The only error that I get during wvdial connection is about Namespace (DNS) failed. I am using a AIRTEL (India) gprs internet connection.
I just installed Lucid Lynx Ubuntu on my computer. I love it, but I do not see how to configure my dial-up modem and connect. I'm hoping it's still possible. Here's my hardware.

I'm using Linux Mandrake 9.0 on my Dell 750MHz laptop. Linux is not making a dial-up connection, but modem test showed passed. Is there any utility to fix this problem. I have to often use dial-up connection.

I want to configure Internet connection in my linux os but don't know how to do it. In Windows XP the method is quite simple but in linux I know know what to do about, It has been very challenging for me to do it but don't knw how ot do it.This file I have to type at run "RASPPPOE.inf" to get list of available Internet providers.
In windows I do it in this way-
1.First go to My network places ->View network connection->Local area network->Properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Install->protocol->Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(select)->Have disk->(then browse to get RASPPPOE.inf file from PPPOE folder)->click OK->select PPP over Ethernet protocol->Click OK->>continue anyway(two times if asked)-> Apply->OK.
2.Then got to run ->Type raspppoe (Enter)->one window will open->select the LAN card (where internet cable is connected)->Click on Query available services->Select Internet provider name and->Click on Create dial up connection.-> Then dial up will be created on Desktop where I enter my username and password to start internet.
I have a dial-up connection through PeoplePC and I'm running FC11. In order to get my modem working, I'm told I need to install the wvdial package. To get wvdial, I need wvstreams. I downloaded the source for both on my Windows machine, and transferred the .gz files over to my FC partition.
When I try to ./configure wvstreams, I receive an error about not having a C compiler at $PATH. I'm pretty lost about what I need to do to correct this.
Basically I just want my dial-up to work with FC11

It's been a while since I've logged into this forum, but I'm back to using openSUSE, and my experience with this OS has so far been quite pleasant. I have a U.S. Robotics Dial-up modem, model USR5637, that I've used with other linux OS's, such as Ubuntu, Fedora, and Puppy, but I haven't had any luck using this modem with openSUSE. This is a full hardware modem.
Usually, when using this modem on a new Ubuntu system, I got into the terminal, type "lsmod" and then "modprobe cdc_acm" and the modem begins to work. However, in openSUSE this is not the case. I'm using Gnome and KDE, with kppp, and I'm unable to connect to the internet. Is there a way of installing this modem that I am overlooking?
I've read a lot on the internet about various ways of doing this but i've been unsuccessful each time. Basically what i've done is accidently un-installed network-manager because I was having trouble staying connected on my WPA network. The easiest way of reinstalling it I know of is using the CD but I don't have a CD ROM drive and the pen drive I used to install it I no longer have.
I tried using a program called Keryx but you need python installed and from some reason this doesn't come with ubuntu 10.10. I've also downloaded the .deb packages but I still need to download 200kb which is a killer. I've also downloaded it from here too [URL] but the install file makes no sense to me as i'm not a massive linux user. One last thing reinstalling isn't really an option as i've already put a lot of time into setting up this computer.
I tried to connect to the huawei cdma EC325 modem. using the network manager applet. System asked which tpe of connection i selected cdma and gave the username and password for the account and the password for my opensuse account.Still i cannot connect to the internet using huawei ec325 modem.How to rectify the problem What shall i do next.

I have just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to openSUSE 11.3 using zypper. It seems to work fine except that umtsmon stopped to work, so for now my laptop has no connetion to internet at all. I have a lenovo desktop pc (WIN7) that I connect to the interrnet with. I have a custom built box (SuSE11.3). I have clear internet service and use a USB modem to connect to the internet. Clear does not make a Linux driver yet... I can connect to the Internet through VMware desktop with SuSE as the guest OS. However, I want to connect my other system to a router and my other PC. Would I be able to access the web with the linux box? In the early days Ubuntu Netbook Remix worked well for me. But this has been discarded, and the "one size fits all" Ubuntu had become slow and cumbersome. So..... onto my post. Opensuse is working well. The install went beautifully.
It detected the Wireless Internet and I am able to get on line. I also need to share the Internet connection to a desktop. This is done via a small network switch. Thus far I cannot do this. I tried to use ifup to configure a static ip but this busted my Wireless configuration. I went back to knetwork manager. Then I tried to set up the wired network using knetwork manager and under IPV4 "share" the connection. But this blanks out any possiblity of a static address and substitutes dhcp. My desktop cannot ping the this dhcp address. Ubuntu had this thing called Firestarter? - from memory. This configured the system to sharing the network.
I'm new in SUSE 11.4. My problem is: I'm using Alfa AWUS036H card. It's recognised and I can establish connection to my network, but cant get to Internet. I can't surf the web cos Firefox tell me that connection is timed out. Now I'm confused why I can't surf the web even if I'm connected. Also, I trayed to instal linux drivers for this card folloving Ubuntu "how to" and it just dont work.

I have problem after install opensuse 11.2 on lenovo R61. I have no connection to internet, although on liveCD (opensuse 11.2) is internet connection functional. In ubuntu or opensuse 11.1 was all OK, connection was functional.- at DSL Configuration / Ethernet Card is Unknown device- in hardware is Card: 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection (eth0)- modprobe wl write it FATAL: Module wl not found.

I find out the connection with the internet doesn't work in the opensuse 11. I made a repair and format to opensuse 11 but without any change the net still doesn't work.
