Under Linux the behavior is odd and a little frustrating. xsane does recognize it, but when I attempt to preview it or scan, I get the message "Failed to start scanner; invalid argument". Unlike the other USB devices, no name shows up.
I'd like to use this device under Skype, but the Linux version of Skype doesn't provide any way to test whether the device works or not. Windows does provide such a test (via Welcome), and the webcam works correctly there.
How can I civilize this beast?
So my Microsoft Lifecam NX-3000 used to work with 9.04, but I can't seem to get anything from it now (Xubuntu 9.10). It still shows up fine when i enter lsusb, but it won't show up as a video device anywhere else. I have faith that this bug is a simple fix for someone who knows what they're doing, but unfortunately I don't. If it's relevant this is on my aging Toshiba Satellite.

and also i checked cable device and everything. And it was working till I last hour. I rebooted computer then there's some problem, I haven't change anything before or after rebooting.
I installed debian 4.0 (etch) on an old computer with some pickled graphics card in it, and then I upgraded the computer to one with slightly newer hardware only without the graphics card (the new one used on board graphics). I moved the hard drive from the old one to the new one but when I booted it up it failed to start the X-server and I got some errors listed for "device not found" and "no screens found".
I tried using "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" however I can't seem to find a working configuration. It seems pretty silly that when installing debian it can detect all this automatically with no problems but when it comes to changing some hardware around you are left in the dark with a complicated re-configuration process. Is there not some way to automate this? I'd rather not have to re-install everything
I have suse 11.4 installed and I wish to replace the on-board sound chip with an add-on sound card. The following are available at my local shop but they cannot advise whether any will work on Linux Suse 11.4.

Since installing F11, my Canon LIDE 50 scanner refuses to work. xsane 0.996 produces an error message: Failed to start scanner: Error during device I/O.
sane-find-scanner says it is there: found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x2213 [CanoScan], chip=GL841?) at libusb:001:006 But scanimage -L claims: No scanners were identified.except once when it admitted: device `genesys:libusb:001:006' is a Canon LiDE 35/40/50 flatbed scanner
I reluctantly tested the scanner on a Windoze machine and it works perfectly. And it worked perfectly under F10.

Some research has turned up webcam_server Project Home Page but unfortunately it only supports v4l, not v4l2 and is no longer maintained. Recently I installed Ubuntu 10.10 64bit and I have a problem with it.
I have a motherboard with internal audio card as well as I have ATI 2600 card. When I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 sound via motherboard worked perfectly.
But some time later it disappeared. Actually "Output device" that represents audio card disappeared. See screenshot of the Audio Settings dialog.
I made 2 thing - most likely that one of them cause this problem:
- I tried to setup Panasonic Plasma TV as a second monitor via HDMI output of my video card (ATI 2600).
- I added maven-backports repository (new kernel or new audio driver?)
Have anybody seen this problem? Are any pointers how to fix it? If you need any additional info - let me know I'll be glad to provide it.
Is it possible to do this? I'm just thinking maybe I can run KDE without using the GPU so that I can use the GPU for computation (CUDA). The system I'm thinking of using is a laptop with Nvidia GTX260M video card. I've seen people talk about frame buffer, but I don't quite understand it because it seems that some people are talking about using frame buffer even when they have a video card on their system.

The first problem that I encountered was dependencies; first I installed fuse using YaST then I installed the rpm file. but when I try open a volume, TrueCrypt gave me Code: fuse: device not found, try 'modprobe fuse' first. So I issue in Terminal that command but I see this error:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have got a server which has a motherboard with nvidia mediashield raid built in, with Centos installed it picked up the raid 5 array that i had configured as one drive so the os install was straight forward. When i booted the netinstaller of opensuse 11.3 run though the setup, when getting to the partition setup is was picking up the three hdd as seperate drives and not one, so i got to a certain point and aborted the installation and i re run the installer, the raid status said the array was degarded or something which i knew there was nothing wrong with it as i had set it up only about 2 weeks ago and there was one drive missing aswell. So i removed the array and re configured the array and rebooted and the raid status said healthy again as it was before on centos, then i run the opensuse installer again and it went though the process again but completely stop at "Searching for linux partitions" , cursor was working fine , but nothing else was so i had to press reset.
This was my problem, i know kind of what the problem is, but what i want to know is , i thought opensuse is based on rhel same as centos but how comes centos has the drivers for the raid chip i have in my board and opensuse has not.
After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.40.. My Cheese webcam doesn't work anymore. It says: No Camera Found!
And also one important thing is missing.. (I don't know how to say that).. "ALWAYS ON TOP"
How do i get back that?
When I am trying Cheese to view the Webcam, I am getting a message "No Camera found".
But if I do a lsusb, then the following details are shown :
