Fedora Installation :: No TPM Chip Found Activating TPM-bypass
Mar 31, 2010
When trying to install fedora, I frequently run into the problem where it locks up on boot.
The line that I am able to read right before it locks up is: "No TPM chip found, activating TPM-bypass!"
I was wondering if anyone has any similar problems or how I could fix this.

Since installing F11, my Canon LIDE 50 scanner refuses to work. xsane 0.996 produces an error message: Failed to start scanner: Error during device I/O.
sane-find-scanner says it is there: found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x2213 [CanoScan], chip=GL841?) at libusb:001:006 But scanimage -L claims: No scanners were identified.except once when it admitted: device `genesys:libusb:001:006' is a Canon LiDE 35/40/50 flatbed scanner
I reluctantly tested the scanner on a Windoze machine and it works perfectly. And it worked perfectly under F10.

I try my level best to come out from this problem but all failed.

I just installed debian Jessie (8) and find that the system cannot resolve URLs. Checking with the "hosts" command confirms this. I am connected to a comcast network in my house. I have looked over some of the documentation and it seems like there are several conflicting ways of setting up the resolver. It is not clear if the install process did this for me. I am assuming that DHCP was installed as the computer had no problem defining IPs for its wlan0 and eth0 ports and I can telnet in from and in-network PC. I have a few questions :
1) I see /sbin/dhclient/,,,,, running so i assume this is the DHCP deamon in use?
2) Before I dig too deep I wonder if an internal firewall is involved. Is there a command to shut it down temporarily?
3) what would I look for to determine if a resolver was installed and which one?
I see from my windows machine an apparent comcast DNS server but I don't believe I can code it into resolv.conf on debian as the OS now overwrites this(I already tried and failed!).

I'm trying to get 9.10 to work nicely on a Thinkpad Edge 14".Everything is working fine, except that I have issues with the intel graphics drivers.The monitor's native resolution is 1366x768 and I have Intel HD graphics card on it.I have changed my xorg.conf to use driver = "vesa", but now I get only a resolution of 1024x768.I tried to use xrandr to fix this, by adding a new mode etcetera, but this does not work - I believe because the driver is the issue.Also, doing Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6] gives me a blank screen rather than a console.
How do I find out the details about my graphics chip? Intel Corporation Arrandale Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 12)Maybe I should go more bleeding edge for my drivers? How do I do that?

I have 10.04 LTS installed onto an SSD and have a spinning disk for crud, and my brother wants to give me his old GA-PH67A-UD3 and 8GB of RAM if I buy an i7 2600 to put in it. The thing is, I'm happy with my GA-965P-DS3 with Q6600, so I don't actually need an upgrade. So, can I get away with replacing the mobo, chip, and RAM and putting the SSD in the equivalent SATA port on the new mobo (/dev/sda), and will it cope? Will the kernel detect a new board and chip and carry on accordingly? I'll have to remount my crud drive to the same mount point it expects, and if my user account as the same UID as the old system, I'm hoping that might cope, too. Of course, I might be suggesting complete evil, and if this was Windows, I wouldn't even dare think about it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Linux might cope with this kind of change where Windows would fall over in a heap.

Since the last update of xorg/x-server I am receiving following error after logging into my gnome desktop:
Code:
After updating fedora on my laptop there's the same error. I found this thread here in the forums but the link inside is dead. [url]
According to some google-results it has something to do with the gnome settings not being the same as the X-server settings.

I'm running Fedora 12 and the last couple days I have noticed my screensaver will not start anymore. I did a yum update a few days ago don't know if there is a connection between the two. I've just started to Google the topic. Found different culprits ranging from dbus problems to buggy code.
I'm using a x86_64 PC running kernel 2.6.32.23-170.fc12.x86_64. My Gnome version is 2.28.2. The Gnome-screensaver version is 2.28.3-1.fc12.x86_64.

Has anyone tried to install Karmic on a laptop that has HP's new Linux on a chip OS installed? I think it's a scaled down Splashtop desktop and at least a portion of the OS is hardware based. I sure wonder what would happen if/when I try to install grub and Ubuntu.

I have sent emails to their tech but nothing has returned!!I have tried to use proxies to download stuff from megaupload, however, none of them works for suspected bandwidth reason, not to mention that it might be slow too.

I am VERY new to linux and have managed to install Fedora 14, xmame.SDL and Wah!Cade and finally got it all working great! My final step in my setup is (since the only use for this machine is wahcade) to be able to switch the computer on and boot straight into wahcade...and eventually hide all traces of Fedora during boot. I have managed to get the login to Autologin by adding some lines at the end of /etc/gdm/custom.conf:
Code:
TimedLoginEnable=True
TimedLogin=username
TimedLoginDelay=0
However, I still get the login box but with "Autologin" on it which I have to click ok for or wait about 15 seconds and it goes away. (I was under the impression the timedlogindelay as 0 would be instant) Then immediately after that it still asks for a keyring password.
How can I just get rid of the whole login process (like a single user thing) and just have the thing boot straight to the desktop? Also, once I achieve that, how can I make it open wahcade? And can I remove all the icons from the desktop somehow?
Everything I have come across on tinternet seems to assume I know linux inside out so answering in dummy step by step terms is more than welcome. I have a programming background but I am unfamiliar with linux programs, plugins, terminal, terms etc.

When I boot fc14 with an already defined printer connected on the parallel port, then I can use the printer. The printer appears on parallel:/dev/lp0. But, if the printer is not connected during startup, when I connect the printer I cannot use it. Nothing happens. I have no corresponding message using "dmesg" command when I connect the printer.
I cannot make cups see that the printer is connected, using "localhost:631" in firefox. Is it possible to "mount" the printer manually? Using "system-config-printer", the printer has to be "activated", even though it is not used or even connected. Then "parport" module is installed during boot (with other related modules: "ppdev" and "parport_pc").
Then, when the printer is connected, "dmesg" shows :
lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven).
lp0: console ready
And, of course, it is now OK to use the printer.

Update: the ndiswrapper module does load but when i run ndiswrapper -l it just shows the driver installed but, it is not showing my wireless usb card (0846:9020).

I'd been using 10.04 for a while and then one day the computer wouldn't boot. It just loaded up to a low res purple screen with the loading dots on it and froze. I managed to get all my files back and everything and re-install and it was working fine until I enabled the graphics card and then the same problem occurred. I've isolated the problem to the graphics card. It's never given me issues before and I've been running Ubuntu for about 2 1/2 years now so I was kind of surprised.
It's an NVIDEA card by the way. Any suggestions as to what I should do? I need hardware support for graphics because I do some work in 2D and 3D and as such need to be able to do that stuff on my PC. I don't want to have to keep reinstalling to check if the graphics card is working again yet but it's the only thing I can think of =(

I used a usb to ethernet port converter to bypass this issue. I have a laptop on which I have installed Xubuntu with a live cd. I am now trying to get ndiswrapper to work but apparently I need to compile it. Apparently I need build-essential to compile ndiswrapper. However, when I try to install build-essential from the cd it fails to find the other required packages.
Now I have no internet connection on this laptop (it has no ethernet port) so I have been transferring packages one or two at a time on a usb stick... I have noticed after some time that either with sudo apt-get or the synaptic package manager if there is more than one dependency it will always fail to find the 2nd. Am I going crazy? I am about to abandon Ubuntu to see if I have more luck elsewhere...

Just a short note on getting this card to work in Fedora 14 (and presumably Fedora 15) 64bit. First of all, none of the rpm packages which you might choose will work because none of them are for this chipset. First, one goes to the Rosewill website, finds the driver for this card as a compressed tar file. After downloading it and extracting, you will find in the parent directory a Makefile and README_STA_PRI.
The instructions in README_STA_PRI, if followed carefully, will do the job except for one thing: there is a mistake in the os/linux/config.mk file that needs to be fixed. In the $(PLATFORM),PC 2.4 branch, change -imarch=i686 to -march=core2 and more importantly, in the 2.6 branch, add -march=core2 to the EXTRA_CFLAGS and add export CFLAGS (which would otherwise not be done). In the main Makefile, as per the instructions, I set HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y and HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y so that the Network Manager can control the card.
In the instructions, wps_supplicant is not where they indicate (it is in /usr/sbin/) and the configuration file which I used was in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf, not the one in the dbus-1/system directory. The wpa_supplicant command was run before the make and before "insmod rt3562.ko", and it generated a bunch of error messages because the card had not be recognized yet. The error messages didn't seem to matter.
The card was already in the machine and when "insmod rt3562.ko" was executed, the card was instantly recognized and the network manager set it up and put it into play without any further fuss or muss.

If you have a Radeon graphics chip and upgrade to Jessie, install firmware-linux-nonfree, before rebooting.
My dist-upgrade to Jessie seemed flawless until I rebooted and couldn't get into X.
Seems Jessie boots into Gnome by default, but Gnome now requires 3-D acceleration. For my Radeon graphics chip (ATI Radeon 3100), this requires firmware-linux-nonfree, which I didn't need before and was not installed as part of the upgrade.
A boot message alerted me to this need.
I was able to get X going with xinit. I used FVWM; for XFCE I believe the command is:
xinit /usr/bin/xfce4-session -- :1
and from there I installed the package firmware-linux-nonfree.
