I'm having here annoying "problem" with my webcamera. Everytime I want to use it as a microphone it needs to be switched manually in sound settings menu. It's not a big deal but I would really rather let it be switched automatically like plug and play or something like that.

I use a Logitech USB headset with microphone at work for phone conferencing, and for some reason whenever I restart Ubuntu (and sometimes seemingly at random times), the settings for the audio input device revert to the defaults (the internal audio hardware).I can always reset it back to the USB headset by going to the sound configuration menu (Preferences -> Sound -> Input), but if any applications that use a microphone are already running, they will need to be restarted in order to make use of the newly configured input device.

and also i checked cable device and everything. And it was working till I last hour. I rebooted computer then there's some problem, I haven't change anything before or after rebooting.
I use an echo indigo audio card. When I do aplay -l I see this card, and I can ouput audio through it by specifically telling mplayer to use this (alsa) device. Now I want to use this card as default for all audio. At the moment the default is pulseaudio through the built in soundcard. How can I change this? Im running Ubuntu 10.04.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have detected some problems when I try to record sound in my Kubuntu 10.04 system.
The problem is that the "default" device for audio recording does not work but I have to select another device to do so. I always selected the "default" device for audio recoding but currently I have to select hw:0,2 device.
Another odd thing is that different programs show me different device. For example, Audacity shows me that I have the following audio recording devices:
- HDA Intel: ALC888 Digital (hw:0,1)
- HDA Intel: ALC888 Analog (hw:0,2)
- spdif
- default
The only one that works is hw:0,2.
But arecord shows me (when I execute "arecord -L") the following:
Finally, in KDE system preferences for audio I get that I have 2 different audio devices for audio recording:
- HDA Intel (ALC888 Analog): it is said that it will try first x-phonon (CARD=0, DEV=0) and, if the latter does not work, it will try plughw (CARD=0, DEV=0)
- HDA Intel (ALC888 Digital): it is said that it will try first x-phonon (CARD=0, DEV=1) and, if the latter does not work, it will try plughw (CARD=0, DEV=1)
Where is the hw:0,2? and how can I set the alsa system to use hw:0,2 as the default device for audio recording?
All of that would not be a problem but I also have an ubuntu 9.04 installed on a virtual machine (by using virtualbox) and audio recording doesn't work there. I suppose that it is becase of the virtual sound card is using default devices for playing and recording audio.
I must say that audio playback works fine in both host and guest systems. It is just audio recording.
I have behringer UCA202 usb card, after plug to usb, it just works , I have only small problem with alsamixer, which still shows by default my integrated HDA Intel, I could switch it by F6 or by alsamixer -c 1no problem, but I expect that default card is now plugged "USB audio", so why alsamixer recognize default audio device as HDA intel and not a USB Audio ?anyone who has two or more sound cards with the same issue ?

I am right clicking the volume icon and going into Sound Prefs -> Input, and selecting the camera.
How do I stop it from forgetting this and resetting it?
How I would capture on-screen audio AND my webcam audio at the same time.(My webcam seems to rely on pulse).

On lucid, it keeps resetting it to the microphone jack at the back of the computer (While I have a webcam up and running that it knows is what I use. How can I get it to remember my audio input? One more functionality issue till bingo. How can I give a window "Widget" status: I want it not to minimize when I hit ctrl alt D (Like conky and other widgets).
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Lucid, Logitech Pro 9000 webcam worked fine until the kernel was upgraded to 2.6.32-24 recently. The usb sound was not listed in /proc/asound/cards. I had to boot from 2.6.32-23 to make it work.
UPDATE: the recent upgrade to 2.6.32-25 fixed this problem.
I would like to use HDMI on my graphic card for audio output. ALSA shows it as a card with 4 devices and I can get sound through one of them (the other three are different channels, perhaps? I have only stereo output connected). Although Pulseaudio has the right card set as default, it seems to me that it plays on a wrong device. Pacmd shows that the sink has parameter alsa.device set to the first device listed by ALSA, but I can get sound only from the second one.How can I force Pulseaudio to use another device of the same card as a default output?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to take an audio feed from a stereo amplifier into my HP Pavilion DV6 laptop, in order to digitally record some old vinyl.
In the Sound Preferences tab, I seemed to be able to record easily from the internal mic, but there seemed to be no easy way to switch the preferences to enable recording from the Line In socket on the laptop.
We tried muting the mic, this only caused the system to record nothing. We also tried all the various available options in "the Hardware Profiles" tab, "Settings for the available device", but no the laptop seemed to be getting no "line in" input with whatever profile we tried.
On Mac, it was as simple as switching the input sound preferences from "internal mic" to "line in".
I am attempting to connect a bluetooth headset to a Telex Intercom System. I can connect my bluetooth headset to Ubuntu and use the microphone and the speaker perfectly. There are no problems with the Line-In or the Line-Out.
Is there any way to connect the BT-Microphone to the Line-Out while connecting the Line-In to the BT-Speaker?
On a PC with 4 users (Karmic), I have installed a webcam. Everything (cam and mic) works for the default user. Cam works in cheese. For the 3 other users, there only are a "testpicture" in cheese and no mic . ???
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use a USB webcam with a built in microphone. It works fine, but every time I plug it in I have to go to sound properties and select it as the input device. There are no other input devices present on my system. Since it's the only one there, is there any way to get it to automatically select when I plug it in? If not, I think that would be good functionality to add. Does anyone know who or what team to contact about that?

Everything starts up fine, and I can record audio into Ardour using my inputs, but I can't get any output from any of my 8 line outs.
I've checked the connections using QjackCtl, and I tried to route audio from another program (Audacious) but I can't seem to pull audio out of the device (or the computer won't send my device audio?).
I can't use my line-in/microphone jack. In system-management-sound input tab there is no input device listed, and the input controls are grayed-out. sudo lshw -C sound produced:

So my Microsoft Lifecam NX-3000 used to work with 9.04, but I can't seem to get anything from it now (Xubuntu 9.10). It still shows up fine when i enter lsusb, but it won't show up as a video device anywhere else. I have faith that this bug is a simple fix for someone who knows what they're doing, but unfortunately I don't. If it's relevant this is on my aging Toshiba Satellite.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) on a five year old desktop computer with no problems what-so-ever until that is when i try to use aMSN. The aMSN program is great and problems only arise when i try to configure the audio and webcam. When i open up Preferences -> Edit audio and video settings and try to configure the audio and webcam everything just freezes solid and the only way i can un-freeze the computer is to disconnect the plug from the power connection.
On other occasions when i have again attempted to configure the audio and webcam the whole aMSN program just vanishes off the screen altogether? I have a Logitech QuickCam 8.1.1
I have a TV card connected to my Dish box, and I would like to use it on my computer. The tv card works fine, and the audio is connected to my line in. The audio card receives the audio signal, and I can set the volume and record it without any problem, but I can't get it to redirect to an output in order to hear the sound. I have been battling with this issue since a kernel update back when 11.2 was about to come out. Back then, the alsa mixer had an option called audio loop-back, which did the trick. Since I know I ca record the audio and play it back without any problem, is there an application that can do this automatically and simultaneously?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I go into Sound Preferences I can crank up the output volume above 100%, making it audible from my monitor's built in speakers.
(this is for a kiosk that doesn't have room for extra powered speakers) Every time I reboot it resets output volume to 100%. Is there a way to change the volume back to 125% or whatever max is so the general public can hear the video that is played after a reboot? (this is to be a permanent installation that won't even have a keyboard or mouse attached, so automating this is a must)
I've tried everything first I tried with Preferences/Preferred Applications - no result. then File Type Manager from Ubuntu Tweek - nothing... I tried with a few older Exaile versions (from various repo's) - nothing... compiling 0.3.1.1 from source - still nothing. with these I can set every other player to be default player (so, only Exaile refuses to obey). to be more exact, after setting Exaile as default, double-click on any audio file associated with it results with temporary CPU usage increase and than NOTHING :S just don't tell me to use VLC, Audacious, Rhythmbox, Amarok, QL or any other player... I used them all but I NEED Exaile (and not just because it looks beautiful enough with Ambiance to make me completely forget foobar2k... and because it's sooo stubborn ).

It has a mic too.I can specify video input device as /dev/video0.I specified input audio device as /dev/dsp2 ( OSS device, corresponding to USB Webcam), Now VLC throws an error, "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/dsp2'. Check the log for details".Thinking it wants an alsa device, I specify device as /dev/snd/pcmC2D0c. (got it from kinfocenter and dolphin). Now again an error, "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/snd/pcmC2D0c'. Check the log for details.".I try with any device, the same error. I have added myself to audio device so that I can read/write to the mentioned devices.I see no way of switching VLC to use OSS. And I see no information (documentation on net) on it's expected device listing for audio.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi am using ubuntu studio karmic and i have a digitech vx400 audio effects pedal which serves as an audio in/out midi in/out device via usb. i can sucessfully set it as the system sound device in system>preferences>sound for both input and output. but, when i play audio through it it only works for a few minutes before the sound stops completely. if i leave the system settings set to the internal sound card and configure jack audio connection kit to go to the usb device, i get the same results on the usb sound. a few minutes of playback at the most.i can restart sound with either "pulseaudio --kill && pulseaudio --start" or "alsactl init" in either situation. just requires restarting the programs. same results after restarting. i think this is alsa related as i have both the system sound and jack using the alsa driver, but i don't truly understand the relationship between pulseaudio and alsa.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen i turn on my computer and log in i get a notification that says "Phonon: KDE's Multimedia Library -- The audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC880 Analog) does not work." and the system falls back to pulse audio.
Also, i noticed that if i wake my computer from hibernation then the HDA Intel device will begin working again.
I read through the comprehensive sound guide with no luck, this behavior seems very strange to me and im not sure what is causing it. I would much rather use the HDA Intel sound device than Pulse Audio.
