View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently set up a Samba Server on a new Gigabyte (Desktop) Motherboard with support for SATA 3.0. I used a new 1T SATA 3.0 (6Gb) Hard Drive. The system is performing poorly, seems to have problems both opening and closing files (*.dbf).
Also will hold a file as open periodically (may be a Samba Issue).
Does the O/S have to support this standard, or is it a function of the Hardware...?
Just a quick question. Does Kubuntu Karmic support core 2 E8500 out of the box or do you need the SMP kernel?

We've added one of those PCIe x1 cards to one of our servers since we need additional serial interfaces but it doesn't seem to work. Instead of three serial ports (the server comes with one already, the controller adds two more) we still only have ttyS0:
Quote:

I've been running Intel chipset motherboards with NVIDIA video card drivers very succesfully on Linux, but I'm thinking about getting a desktop with a nForce motherboard and SLi support. My basic question is will this be supported "easily" in Linux? Anyone have any personal experience?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a command line OCR program called OCR Shop XTR (Vividata corp) that I am using on a system with a 6-core AMD chip. I changed the bios so that the 6-cores were activated, but htop shows me that while the program is running, I am only getting activity on one core (the program maxes out the one core with consistent usage between 97% and 100%).
I have read that many programs are not written to take advantage of multiple core cpu's. However, I am just hoping that there is some way to get this program to take advantage of the extra cores. Does anyone know of a way to invoke programs from the command line which would spread the workload out among additional cores?

I was using Fedora 11 on my previous laptop, a Toshiba Centrino 2-powered model, and I was having issues with the CPU fan not starting up unless I put it to sleep and woke it up again. I no longer have it due to circumstances beyond my control (aka getting mugged), and I'm looking into getting one of Dell's Core i5-powered Inspiron laptops.
On the odd chance that some people here have gotten their hands on one, I was wondering if there's any support for Core i3/i5-powered laptops in Fedora 11, or should I wait for Fedora 12 before I get one? I almost burnt up the Centrino 2 one before I remembered about the fan problem, and I want to avoid that if possible.
Is it possible to do this? I'm just thinking maybe I can run KDE without using the GPU so that I can use the GPU for computation (CUDA). The system I'm thinking of using is a laptop with Nvidia GTX260M video card. I've seen people talk about frame buffer, but I don't quite understand it because it seems that some people are talking about using frame buffer even when they have a video card on their system.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have got a server which has a motherboard with nvidia mediashield raid built in, with Centos installed it picked up the raid 5 array that i had configured as one drive so the os install was straight forward. When i booted the netinstaller of opensuse 11.3 run though the setup, when getting to the partition setup is was picking up the three hdd as seperate drives and not one, so i got to a certain point and aborted the installation and i re run the installer, the raid status said the array was degarded or something which i knew there was nothing wrong with it as i had set it up only about 2 weeks ago and there was one drive missing aswell. So i removed the array and re configured the array and rebooted and the raid status said healthy again as it was before on centos, then i run the opensuse installer again and it went though the process again but completely stop at "Searching for linux partitions" , cursor was working fine , but nothing else was so i had to press reset.
This was my problem, i know kind of what the problem is, but what i want to know is , i thought opensuse is based on rhel same as centos but how comes centos has the drivers for the raid chip i have in my board and opensuse has not.
Can SATA 3 (SATA III) Hard disk be run on motherboard which only supports SATA II, except sacrificing the speed (throughput)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just performed a fresh install of Suse 11.4. It worked great except that the network communication would cut in and out intermittently. I managed to solve the problem posting it here for other users and for future suse releases. I will give the hardware I am running, the symptoms and the fix:
Hardware
=======
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H67MA-UD2H-B3
Ethernet controller: Realtek RTL8111E
Default module: r8169 (run lsmod to see loaded modules)
[Code].....
1) First make sure that linux kernel source is installed in your system (yast software management)
2) ensure that gcc is installed (yast software management)
3) Download the latest linux driver for RTL8111E from the realtek website The one that I am running is the 8168 driver version 8.024.00
4) unzip the tarball (creates a directory called "r8168-x.xxx.xx")
5) As root run the autorun.sh from inside the newly created "r8168-x.xxx.xx" directory
Since I was change my mainboard and sound chip of course kmix doesn't work, I can change the volume but it doesn't effect on output volume it look like kmix have 3 level, Mute, Low and high.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSystem: OpenSuSE 11.0Mouse: Microsoft Intellipoint OpticalI'm having some troubles and am in need of any assistance you can spare. I've recently upgraded to an ASUS A8N-SLI, SuSE transitioned over smoothly as I set the system to mount via volume/disk labels; it booted up perfectly although, naturally, I needed to run SaX2 to reconfigure the X server. After I did this, I logged into my desktop and after about a minute the mousetopped responding. The lights would still light up upon movement however the cursor would not move unplugged and reinserted the device however it would not light up.
I have tried the mouse on my Windows disk and my other Windows computer and it works fine. I have already tried reconfiguring SaX2 andremoving the mouse0 file from /dev/input yet the problem still persists. In fact, I'm navigating the forums with a keyboard. After the mouse fails, if I try testing a new SaX2 configuration, switching virtual consoles or doing anything which would switch resolution the computer locksp and displays s screenful of coloured, fuzzy lines. I imagine this has something to do with an X configuration somewhere, I'll post my X configs here.

Installation of opensuse 11.0 11.1 11.2 and Enterprise suse 11 was successfull. After grub menu i get blank screen. It`s blank for about 60 - 120 sec and then appear Suse loading page and loading bar. This also happens if i change to text mod. But in text mod i can see what`s going on. View 4 Replies View RelatedJust installed opensuse 11.4 using a new motherboard, the MSI H67MA-E35. According to the book that came with the Motherboard it has a Intel H67 chipset and a "HD audio codec integrated by Realtek ALC887". Also have an older Hauppague TV card installed in the system. Not setting the sound quality I would expect. By this I mean that the audio played by webpages is low. And the audio played by the TV card is distorted. The volume control is ineffective. The only way I can adjust the volume is by the control on the speakers. Perhaps it is just as simple as setting opensuse to use a different soundcard?
