When I am trying Cheese to view the Webcam, I am getting a message "No Camera found".
But if I do a lsusb, then the following details are shown :

Is there any way to correct this problem. I am on Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10.
After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.40.. My Cheese webcam doesn't work anymore. It says: No Camera Found!
And also one important thing is missing.. (I don't know how to say that).. "ALWAYS ON TOP"
How do i get back that?

I'm having trouble with some qt-based apps that did work previously but now do not. So far I've seen this with Skype, VLC and umbrello. Applications appear to execute but GUI never seems to initialise. CPU remains around 90%. I'm using an eeepc 1000H running ubuntu intrepid 8.10 with adam's kernel 2.6.27-8-eeepc. Any ideas on how I can debug this? As I mentioned these applications worked fine in the past, I'm guessing an update broke them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from jaunty to intrepid. The upgrade tool went through everything without a hitch and when it finished it told me to restart my computer. When I did, ubuntu began to boot, got past the initial loading splash screen, but immediately after, before the login splash, the screen freezes with some strange graphics glitch and refuses to work from there. How can I fix this to any workable state, upgraded or not?

I installed both Cheese and Skype. The camera is not even detected.
I was just wondering if there are any applications that would serve as a webcam manager in Ubuntu. I am running 64 bit Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell XPS M1530. Under Windows, I was able to modify camera settings (resolution, image, special effects) from a dedicated panel any time the camera was on. I don't need a lot of flashy features, but it would be nice if I could lower the resolution so that Skype runs more smoothly.

Currently, the only way I can find to connect the camera to my computer puts the camera into a special pc connect mode (which does not allow recording) and makes the cameras p2 cards detected as drives. Obviously, this doesn't help me do live streaming (I don't even need to record on the camera).I've seen that on Mac OS X a program called camtwist can be used to do what I want, but it would be nice to find an ubuntu/linux solution.

Just installed latest Ubuntu (intrepid Ibex) on my DFI Ultra Infinity II system. It has onboard audio via a Realtek ACL650 chipset. Unfortunately, no sound. Have searched various forums, etc. and found recommendations to download the ALSA driver from realtek, but those posts are from ~2007 and the drivers are dated from back then as well. Nobody present-day seems to be suffering audio problems with this motherboard or chipset. I did install the 2007 realtek driver, but no change. What logs can I check?

The problem is that on connecting the cam, it just works with the first program I start (skype, tokbox, messenger), and if I disconnect it or switch to another program, it stops to work and I have to restart my computer to make it work again.
Is there some good solution to reset the camera without rebooting to make it work again?

So I decided to boot into windows and make sure all was OK - and it was. Then I came back into Fedora and suddenly the camera was working again! I thought I'd reboot just to see if anything changed and alas here I am again with no webcam and the same error.

Well, my camera works perfectly in guvcview and in skype test (I already modified config.xml in my user dir to have 640x480, my cam is Ricoh r5870). OK, as soon as I start my video or I get itautomatically started it goes 320x240 and very bad. I turn it off during the call and I restart it: it works perfectly. Could I solve this issue by telling skype to open the video "just like if it were the second time" ?

In 10.04 the camera worked and I could use the program "Cheese" to take photos and videos with the camera. In 10.10 I installed Cheese and tried to use my laptop's camera but it didn't work. View 2 Replies View Relatedi just fixed my old-ish laptop (pop accident) and instead of putting window on it my dad talked me into trying ubuntu out, gotta say love it, fast and everything but having major problems. i have a lenovo 3000 v200. everything is the same as out of the box except the keyboard, only thing i really needed to replace.
ok problems
1) wireless is not working: i have the switch on (side of the laptop) and bluetooth lights up but wireless doesnt. (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). now i just learned about 'rfkill list' it shows that there is a soft block on the wireless. tried " rfkill unblock 0" nothing happened. also when i tried finding out wat kernel im using " uname-r" to find out more on why its not unblocking, the CLI says "comand isnt found" next two problems are small but are still frustrating
2) built in camera: the green light is on next to the lens but when trying to test the camera on skype or a photo program the video feed/ picture is black, or blank. not sure what i can do to fix that.
3) fingerprint scanner: yes i have one, i know its not efficient but I still like using it to login in instead of typing. im not sure how to get linux/ubuntu to recognize it if it even is. not sure how to set it up if it is recognized.
i would like to fix the wireless more than anything, if i can fix the camera and scanner then yeay, otherwise i can survive. oh and note i did try using the "additional drivers" app. nothing popped up.

- and in the video box where image should appear: "unable capture from device"
In the other programs it shows a completely blank screen, or sometimes a blank screen with some strange uncomprensible white-grey stripes.
