OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Kmix Doesnt Start Since Upgrade To Kde 4.5
Jan 30, 2011
Running openSUSE 11.3, installed a month ago, and the only change I did from the default install was to update to kde 4.5 (along with usual updates).Since the upgrade, kmix doesn't start. When I click it, I see the bouncy kmix icon, and a new slot is opened on the task bar which reads 'kmix', but it shows nothing, and after a minute or so it disappears, along with the kmix bouncy icon.No error is given, so I tried to run from shell. This time when I try 'kmix' it does nothing at all (doesn't appear in 'jobs').
KMix 4.6.0 in OpenSUSE 11.4 (x86) doesn't show up channels. It only shows "Internal sound Analog stereo" So I can't set the input/output channels and the headphone channel for my soundcard. The right soundcard drivers are installed (for Creative Sound Blaster Platinum Live Drive). Earlier versions of KMix worked just fine.
I have my Acer Revo R3610 PC connected to my LCD TV through HDMI. The sound works but I cannot control the volume from Kmix. I've added the IEC958 channel to the channels in Kmix but it doesn't provide a slider for it. Only a mute. The master volume slider has no effect at all. Is there any way of controlling the volume when connected through HDMI?
I ran the alsa diagnostics script (/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh) and uploaded it here.
Here is a quick summary of my Alsa version, sound module loaded and sound card details.
Im running 11.3 w/ KDE 4.6. I was using Kmix today without issue and accidentally (perhaps out of curiosity) clicked the 'close' box on the tab which presented all of the volume controls. The thing is, I cannot seem to find out how to recreate it. I seem to recall there was some option to create multiple volume control tabs, but I cannot locate.
Could someone point me in the right direction on how to recreate the tab or delete the kmix settings/config which I assume would re-create defaults?
Kmix seems gone crazy, always consume 100% of one processor, during video playing with SMplayer or Kaffein, even the playing stopped, player closed,it still keep running. I'm using 11.4 x86 KDE.
Since I was change my mainboard and sound chip of course kmix doesn't work, I can change the volume but it doesn't effect on output volume it look like kmix have 3 level, Mute, Low and high.
I want to connect my OpenSuse 11.3 Distribution with the Internet via WLAN. But i can't open the KNetworkManager. It doesnt respond to my clicks. If I click on the KNetworkManager "Button" it doesen't react.
I am using an Acer Aspire 5536 AMD dual core laptop with a 64bit installation of Susie 11.4. Using 11.2 I had no problems connecting to the wireless router. As soon as 11.4 was installed, clean install, and the laptop rebooted, network manager failed to start, until manually invoked and then enabling networking through the system tray. Even after this it will not connect to a wired or wireless network sometimes for more than 30 minutes.
I've just upgraded to kUbuntu 10.04. I've been using Gnome for a few years now, and felt the need to try KDE again. I've managed to get my NVidia 8200 with HDMI audio working, but have one last annoying issue.
I can't control volume with my RF remote or keyboard.
More to the point, the keys control the sliders in kMix, but to no effect on the sound. This is likely because I need to use Pulseaudio to get my HDMI working. The sliders in Pulse volume control, control the volume nicely. Either I need a way to force kmix to talk to pulse, or a way to re-map these keys to control pulse.
I don't know what I did, or maybe it was some update. I'm running Kubuntu Maverick 64-bit. Kmix in system tray disappeared. Sometimes it shows up after some long time, but I haven't seen it for the last month. Kmix process still runs, and it takes one entire thread of my Intel i3 processor. Killing kmix and restarting it does not change anything. Sound applications work as expected, but I cannot change volume. They work well also when I kill kmix. When I invoke kmix from xterm, I get the following messages:
Code: QMetaObject::invokeMethod: No such method KMixApp:: loadCommandLineOptionsForNewInstance() Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address. IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon kmix(12181) Mixer::setGlobalMaster: Mixer::setGlobalMaster() card= "PulseAudio::Playback_Devices:1" control= "alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo" kmix(12181) MixerToolBox::initMixer: Looking for mixers with the : "PulseAudio" driver kmix(12181) Mixer_PULSE::Mixer_PULSE: Probing for PulseAudio...

Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." ".
At the same time, phonom complains that some devices have disappeared (they do not show up in other places anymore): Internal Audio Digital Stereo (IEC 95) Internal Audio Digital Stereo (HDMI) Internal Audio Analog Surround 5.1 What should I do to get my mixer back?
I have a problem with kmix, which uses 100% of my processor without stopping. And this is providing to rise of temperature above 80 degrees Celsius. The problem became actual after one of updates of 11.4 series.
Kmix refuses to show in the system tray at boot. I have gone to settings and made sure "Dock in system tray" is ticked off. I have un-installed and re-installed it. Nothing. btw running Suse 11.2 and the desktop is kde 4.3.1
I installed SLIM and rebooted. gdm failed to start so I went to the terminal and ran gdm manually from there. Then i logged in and removed slim package, reinstalled gdm and rebooted. Gdm still fails to start at boot up. When i try to manually start it, i get the following warnings:
Warning: unable to load file 'etc/gdm/custom.conf' Warning: unable to find users: no seat-id found
I just play around with apache and php, everything was working right, but, suddenly nothing works, I tried to open a terminal and nothing, Firefox and nothing, then I realized that the OS was freeze, my next step was restart the PC, and guess what, nothing happens, then I Wait, and wait and wait and finally turn off the PC, wait 30sec and turn on, then it shows the PC manufacturer, Ubuntu logo, Ubuntu wallpaper, and nothing else!!! :'( Where in the name of god is my login screen??
Im such an idiot. I have no idea of how to use terminal on this computer. I tried to download the updated version of skype and now it wont work. Nothing happens and it says /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version 'GLIBCXX_3.4.9 not found(required by skype)
X won't start (awesome WM) after upgrading to jessie. It seems to startup up, then just stops. I'm running startx from the command line after logging in. The xorg log (bottom) looks good and I see an exit code of zero.
I do see this in sysout:
Code: Select alldebian xf86TokenToOptinfo: table is NULL
Googled around but I can't find anything specific on this one.
I'm not using any xorg.conf, as booting into a linux rescue cd everything works ok
Code: Select all[ 2275.960] X.Org X Server 1.16.4 Release Date: 2014-12-20 [ 2275.960] X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 [ 2275.960] Build Operating System: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 x86_64 Debian [ 2275.960] Current Operating System: Linux jj 3.14.25 #1 SMP Fri Dec 5 10:17:33 EST 2014 x86_64
After upgrading to squeeze I have now X Server 1.7.7 installed and it won't start. When I try to run startx script, monitor gets blank for few seconds and then I get back to command prompt and no errors is displayed.
When I try the same as root, system locks up with blank screen and no functioning keyboard.
Initially I had kernel 2.6.28 which worked fine with earlier Lenny's X Server and Matrox P650 AGP video card. After upgrade I found, that Matrox P650 is not longer supported in new xorg and I swapped it to Matrox G550 AGP card.
Tried mga driver's many options, upgraded to kernel 2.6.37.2, tried with Matrox G200 PCI and Savage 4 Pro AGP card but without a success.
With kernel AGP support turned on I got both with Matrox G550 and Savage card an MTRR error: "error setting MTRR, Invalid argument (22)". Without AGP support in kernel, Matrox G550 gets initialised as PCI card and no errors and X still not working. Same with Matrox G200 PCI card.
With vesa driver the behavior is also the same and output at the end of Xorg.log file is almost the same.
So I understand, that this is some X server problem?
Nothing special in xorg.conf file and tried without it also.
End of the Xorg.0.log file:
>> (II) MGA(0): YDstOrg is set to 0 (II) Loading sub module "fb" (II) LoadModule: "fb" (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libfb.so
Since upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 (through the update manager) my previously well working avidemux now will not even start. here is the output from the terminal.
I have unistalled and reinstalled avidemux with the same results. I have also uninstalled the ffmpeg, mencoder, and medibuntu codecs and reinstalled, however, I am getting the same terminal output and the same results.
I did a distribution upgrade using "apt-get dist-upgrade". After rebooting, I receive a message saying "Failed to start the X Server". When I okay the prompt for more info, I see the following: GDM: Xserer not found: /usr/bin/X :0 -audit 0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7 Error: Command could not be executed! install the X server or correct GDM configuration and restart GDM.gdm[4678]: WARNING: gdm_server_spawn: Xserver not found: /usr/binX :0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7
I had postgresql 8.3 running on opensuse 11.0, recently upgraded to 11.2 (so postgres is now 8.4) and have problems starting it. I make, su, then as root run:
# /etc/init.d/postgresql start Your databases are still using the format of PostgreSQL 8.3. Therefore a backup of the old PostgreSQL server program will be used until you have saved and removed your old database files See also /usr/share/doc/packages/postgresql/README.SuSE.{de,en} . nm-applet won't start after system upgrade with gnome 3.0. NetworkManager version is 0.899 in gnome 3 repo, I read somewhere that it should be 0.9xxx for gnome 3.0. Also got this message "The system network services are not compatible with this version." when trying to run network from system settings.
I just upgrade from 10.3 to 11.4. Everything went fairly smoothly and most things are still working execp nfsserver
