View 13 RepliesI just play around with apache and php, everything was working right, but, suddenly nothing works, I tried to open a terminal and nothing, Firefox and nothing, then I realized that the OS was freeze, my next step was restart the PC, and guess what, nothing happens, then I Wait, and wait and wait and finally turn off the PC, wait 30sec and turn on, then it shows the PC manufacturer, Ubuntu logo, Ubuntu wallpaper, and nothing else!!! :'( Where in the name of god is my login screen??

View 11 Replies View RelatedI installed SLIM and rebooted. gdm failed to start so I went to the terminal and ran gdm manually from there. Then i logged in and removed slim package, reinstalled gdm and rebooted. Gdm still fails to start at boot up. When i try to manually start it, i get the following warnings:
Warning: unable to load file 'etc/gdm/custom.conf'
Warning: unable to find users: no seat-id found
Gnome desktop and everything is fine and it just goes to a prompt.
View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning openSUSE 11.3, installed a month ago, and the only change I did from the default install was to update to kde 4.5 (along with usual updates).Since the upgrade, kmix doesn't start. When I click it, I see the bouncy kmix icon, and a new slot is opened on the task bar which reads 'kmix', but it shows nothing, and after a minute or so it disappears, along with the kmix bouncy icon.No error is given, so I tried to run from shell. This time when I try 'kmix' it does nothing at all (doesn't appear in 'jobs').
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Thinkpad X40. I've installed Ubuntu 10.4b2 Netbook Remix on it. I have two issues with it:1. If I boot to kernel 2.6.32-21, the machine locks up hard when X attempts to start. The keyboard becomes totally locked (ctrl-alt-f1and the screen is blank. 2.6.32-20 works fine. (thanks to IRC for telling me how to get to GRUB when it's set to auto-boot.)2. I had 10.4 alpha3 on it originally, and the 3d netbook launcher was dramatically faster than the currently updated version of it. Related to #1: how can I set GRUB to automatically boot to the older kernel? Where should I be looking in logs to see if there's something I can report effectively?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to connect my OpenSuse 11.3 Distribution with the Internet via WLAN. But i can't open the KNetworkManager. It doesnt respond to my clicks. If I click on the KNetworkManager "Button" it doesen't react.
Result : I can't modify my WLAN-Connection.
I'm using 10.04 LTS and updated to the last kernel. After reboot the system is hanged to the grub>
I tried to reinstall grub with the 10.04 live CD but the same thing append after reboot!
The only thing I can think of is that the machine is a RAID 1 system! What can I do to restart it normally?
I install UBUNTU 1104 on HP Desktop PC, but now it doesnt start. Just appears a Black screen with this msg: Error Code = 1001.
I want reinstall but PC is not reading CD, But the CD drive is working.
I install UBUNTU 11 in other 6 PCs, and work fine.

I never install Windows on this PC. The original OS was UBUNTU 9.04 and updates.
Does anybody know a good option for a Skype based solution that works on Linux? I have a real problem with the current Linux version as it is a crappy, buggy and downgraded version of the Windows equivalent.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using an Acer Aspire 5536 AMD dual core laptop with a 64bit installation of Susie 11.4. Using 11.2 I had no problems connecting to the wireless router. As soon as 11.4 was installed, clean install, and the laptop rebooted, network manager failed to start, until manually invoked and then enabling networking through the system tray. Even after this it will not connect to a wired or wireless network sometimes for more than 30 minutes.

Thiugh I am not sure if this is related to my new update(May 26), because it was in the morning and I didn't see if my skype was on/off. But definitely it doesn't work now. The first thing I tried was to uninstall and then reinstalling skype. It opens but when it tries to load the user(mine is set to automatically load user when skype starts) it just shuts down. I tried logging out. rebooting and shutting down my laptop. nothing works. And it used to work before without any problems.

I tried to install Skype, using the Debian download from Skype, but it didn't want to play. I downloaded the Ubuntu 64-bit deb and installed it with Gdebi. i just installed skype after downloading it from the officail site fedora package installation went smooth with no errors but after finnished i click to start skype nothing happens

Everything is working fine however I have just installed the Skype beta deb package for Ubuntu 8.10+ 64b and it won't let me sign on. The installation as far as I know went fine however when I go to enter my UN and PW the "Sign In" button will not light up.

This can be caused by a problem in the programm or a defiency in Wine You may want to check...for tips.
Well I cant find anything with the same or similar problem and I also can not uninstall skype using the wine uninstaller. It just doenst do it.

Yesterday fedora automatically updated the linux kernel, and now it wont start entirely up. After the fedora logo has finished loading up the white, and it has turned into the real logo, nothing happens.However, i can boot into fedora with the old kernel via grub, so i guess it is related to the kernel update.

Windows XP complained and Windows 7 got an error trying to format on the middle drive. I then tried to install on the middle drive and it didnt allow me.

View 10 Replies View Relatedmy printer is not listed the type of drivers it mentions to download in plug and play.the drivers listed dont come close to the number(465cn).I have a brother mfc-465cnwhere do i find the drivers that will be compatible. generic diver listed didnt work or other numbers listed under the 'brother' or 'mfc' brandI went to the open printer website and my printer isnt listed there either. just brother and some other mfc's but nothing near what my printer is.

My wireless and wired Ethernet seem to be working great; however, System Settings >> Network Settings >> Network Settings does not display any information except for the "Domain Name System" tab. In fact pretty much everything is grayed out. Kinda odd, right? As root "$ ifconfig -a" lists both eth0 and eth1 along with pertinent info like IP-addy, MAC, etc. So the cards are definitely detected by the base system. Oh yea, and wpa_cli lists eth1 (my Intel 2200bg wireless card) as an available adapter. However, wireshark does not list anything either. I cannot begin super-happy-fun-time analysis with wireshark unless i can select a given adapter. here is the relevant entry of my rc.inet1.conf

I thought maybe i needed to declare an IFNAME for the adapter and that would be what Network Settings or Wireshark detected but doing so just killed my network so i commented them out.
