Ubuntu Multimedia :: Kmix In System Tray Disappeared

Mar 27, 2011

I don't know what I did, or maybe it was some update. I'm running Kubuntu Maverick 64-bit. Kmix in system tray disappeared. Sometimes it shows up after some long time, but I haven't seen it for the last month. Kmix process still runs, and it takes one entire thread of my Intel i3 processor. Killing kmix and restarting it does not change anything. Sound applications work as expected, but I cannot change volume. They work well also when I kill kmix. When I invoke kmix from xterm, I get the following messages:

Code:
QMetaObject::invokeMethod: No such method KMixApp::
loadCommandLineOptionsForNewInstance()
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon
kmix(12181) Mixer::setGlobalMaster: Mixer::setGlobalMaster() card= "PulseAudio::Playback_Devices:1" control= "alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo"
kmix(12181) MixerToolBox::initMixer: Looking for mixers with the : "PulseAudio" driver
kmix(12181) Mixer_PULSE::Mixer_PULSE: Probing for PulseAudio...

<unknown program name>(12180)/: Communication problem with "kmix" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." ".

At the same time, phonom complains that some devices have disappeared (they do not show up in other places anymore):
Internal Audio Digital Stereo (IEC 95)
Internal Audio Digital Stereo (HDMI)
Internal Audio Analog Surround 5.1
What should I do to get my mixer back?

OpenSUSE :: Application Icons Disappeared From System Tray

Jul 5, 2011

No applications will show in my system tray anymore except the defaults. I've checked the entries and touching those had no effect. In fact, the programs I lost the icons too were in the entries, under "system tray settings" and so I set them to all always show. After doing so the applications actually disappeared from my entries entirelSome of my applications open up directly to the tray and I can't get to them at all anymore! They were all working previously until I moved my panels around.

Debian Configuration :: Klipper Icon Has Disappeared From The System Tray

Jul 2, 2010

I'm running squeeze. The klipper icon has disappeared from the system tray and I can't figure out how to restore it. The service is running. Stopping and starting it has no effect. Changing the display options for the system tray has no effect. I can bring the klipper dialog up with Ctrl-Alt-V but there are no options available regarding the system tray.

It's obviously a user configuration issue since if I login as root the klipper icon is displayed. I tried to copy the klipper configuration file contents from root to user, but that also had no effect, except to alter some non-relevant options. I haven't been able to locate any other configuration files that might be relevant. This seems to be a not uncommon problem with klipper, but the causes seem to differ. I haven't found any solutions vi Google.

Debian Multimedia :: Empty System Tray At KDE Startup

Jun 7, 2010

Occasionally I get on lenny an empty system tray when logging in KDE, no right click menu, no icons. The previous session had been closed regularly. Is there a way to properly shutdown in the circumstances and to fix the problem?

(I don't know whether this has something to do with this but, in the past, on typing by mistake the print screen key, I got multiple instances of ksnapshot launched automatically and had to delete the directory under 'home' ~/.kde/share/config/session and the file ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc to prevent this from repeating itself at every KDE login. The empty tray issue, however did not arise immediately after this, so it might be unrelated.)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Applet Disappeared And Cannot Change System Volume?

Feb 11, 2011

Recently I installed JACK and Ardour to try out. Later I decided against it and so I uninstalled them. After restarting my computer, I noticed that the sound applet has disappeared from the panel, although the battery and mail icons are still present. There is still sound coming out of my laptop speakers, but it is stuck at whatever volume I had it set on before the last time I shut down. Volume sliders inside Banshee and suchll function, but I cannot change the overall system volume, and my keyboard shortcuts for this have stopped working as well. When I go into System->Preferences->Sound, all I get is a message that says "Waiting for sound system to respond." and nothing happens. I've tried searching around for a solution, but nobody I could find seems to have had aimilar problem, and none of the various other solutions proposed have worked for me. I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 by the way.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Control Pulseaudio Volume From Kmix?

May 7, 2010

I've just upgraded to kUbuntu 10.04. I've been using Gnome for a few years now, and felt the need to try KDE again. I've managed to get my NVidia 8200 with HDMI audio working, but have one last annoying issue.

I can't control volume with my RF remote or keyboard.

More to the point, the keys control the sliders in kMix, but to no effect on the sound. This is likely because I need to use Pulseaudio to get my HDMI working. The sliders in Pulse volume control, control the volume nicely. Either I need a way to force kmix to talk to pulse, or a way to re-map these keys to control pulse.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Get Kmix To Control Volume Through HDMI?

Sep 4, 2010

I have my Acer Revo R3610 PC connected to my LCD TV through HDMI. The sound works but I cannot control the volume from Kmix. I've added the IEC958 channel to the channels in Kmix but it doesn't provide a slider for it. Only a mute. The master volume slider has no effect at all. Is there any way of controlling the volume when connected through HDMI?

I ran the alsa diagnostics script (/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh) and uploaded it here.

Here is a quick summary of my Alsa version, sound module loaded and sound card details.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Kmix Doesnt Start Since Upgrade To Kde 4.5

Jan 30, 2011

Running openSUSE 11.3, installed a month ago, and the only change I did from the default install was to update to kde 4.5 (along with usual updates).Since the upgrade, kmix doesn't start. When I click it, I see the bouncy kmix icon, and a new slot is opened on the task bar which reads 'kmix', but it shows nothing, and after a minute or so it disappears, along with the kmix bouncy icon.No error is given, so I tried to run from shell. This time when I try 'kmix' it does nothing at all (doesn't appear in 'jobs').

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Lost Slider Controls In Kmix?

Mar 16, 2011

Im running 11.3 w/ KDE 4.6. I was using Kmix today without issue and accidentally (perhaps out of curiosity) clicked the 'close' box on the tab which presented all of the volume controls. The thing is, I cannot seem to find out how to recreate it. I seem to recall there was some option to create multiple volume control tabs, but I cannot locate.

Could someone point me in the right direction on how to recreate the tab or delete the kmix settings/config which I assume would re-create defaults?

Ubuntu :: System Tray Icons Messed Up?

May 4, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04. I just installed HP drivers for my printer tonight, and now my laptop is acting a little "buggy". Some applications have froze, and my system tray icons are getting messed up. Sometimes the little power button dissapears and my username appears there instead, but it's not clickable. This means I have to shut down by using the power button on my laptop.

Also, as I am typing this message, the letters onscreen are lagging quite a bit behind my actual typing. It's as if there's something running in the background that is slowing everything down and messing things up.

Ubuntu :: System Tray Things Are Disapearing / Fix For This?

I've done some searching through google and can't seem to find a fix for this.

I installed skype on my computer and couldn't figure out where the tray icon went after i closed the main window so I started playing around with all my taskbars and stuff. Being new to ubuntu and all (I'm using version 11.04 with the gnome theme) i accidentally deleted the Skype icon, my windows list on the bottom and everything up top. I successfully restored my windows list and have system monitor so i can easily kill skype if i accidentally restore it (i haven't been able to figure out how to restore the icon up there) and got rid of all my stuff in the top right corner. Upon reboot everything returned except for my shutdown/restart/log off list which i loved (it fit in esthetically and had all the options).

Ubuntu :: Remove The Skype Icon From System Tray?

Jul 25, 2010

I installed Skype only because it is necessary to Pidgin to handle the Skype service/protocol. I use Pidgin for many protocols included the IRC, so I don't need Skype icon in the system tray at all. Honestly I hate Skype, but unfortunately it seems that all the world use it. how to take off that terrible icon/indicator/applet from the systray. I searched in all system to find a configuration file, I opened few named Skype using vi to avoid to damage them, but I have not found nothing interesting for my scope. PS: don't tell me how I will switch on or off Skype, because a plug-in of Pidgin do it w/o user interaction.
