I have a problem with kmix, which uses 100% of my processor without stopping. And this is providing to rise of temperature above 80 degrees Celsius. The problem became actual after one of updates of 11.4 series.

I'm using 11.4 x86 KDE.
KMix doesn't start up in OpenSUSE 11.4 (x86) + KDE 4.6.0. So I can't configure my audio channels and so on.

I've installed openSuse 11.4 and since then kmix shows just one channel (ALSA Plugin. plugin container)
in openSuse 11.3 I could change one master channel a channels for my subwoofer and an other speaker.
How can I add the other two channels to kmix?
KMix 4.6.0 in OpenSUSE 11.4 (x86) doesn't show up channels. It only shows "Internal sound Analog stereo" So I can't set the input/output channels and the headphone channel for my soundcard. The right soundcard drivers are installed (for Creative Sound Blaster Platinum Live Drive). Earlier versions of KMix worked just fine.

I'm using openSUSE 11.4 KDE 4.6. In system monitor KMIX is using 100% CPU power why is this. It's a new development hasn't happened before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my Acer Revo R3610 PC connected to my LCD TV through HDMI. The sound works but I cannot control the volume from Kmix. I've added the IEC958 channel to the channels in Kmix but it doesn't provide a slider for it. Only a mute. The master volume slider has no effect at all. Is there any way of controlling the volume when connected through HDMI?
I ran the alsa diagnostics script (/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh) and uploaded it here.

Running openSUSE 11.3, installed a month ago, and the only change I did from the default install was to update to kde 4.5 (along with usual updates).Since the upgrade, kmix doesn't start. When I click it, I see the bouncy kmix icon, and a new slot is opened on the task bar which reads 'kmix', but it shows nothing, and after a minute or so it disappears, along with the kmix bouncy icon.No error is given, so I tried to run from shell. This time when I try 'kmix' it does nothing at all (doesn't appear in 'jobs').

I was using Kmix today without issue and accidentally (perhaps out of curiosity) clicked the 'close' box on the tab which presented all of the volume controls. The thing is, I cannot seem to find out how to recreate it. I seem to recall there was some option to create multiple volume control tabs, but I cannot locate.
Could someone point me in the right direction on how to recreate the tab or delete the kmix settings/config which I assume would re-create defaults?
Kmix refuses to show in the system tray at boot. I have gone to settings and made sure "Dock in system tray" is ticked off. I have un-installed and re-installed it. Nothing. btw running Suse 11.2 and the desktop is kde 4.3.1

View 3 Replies View RelatedAm investigating processor affinity theory and practice, am somewhat surprised at the paucity of information on something that has been a part of many Windows Enterprise type applications for more than a decade and although I haven't investigated would assume is supported by big iron UNIX.What it is Processor Affinity is the *NIX terminology for "soft" assigning a process and its threads to a specific processor core. On multi-tasking machines and particularly those which run heavy loads it can be useful to "advise" the Scheduler to isolate/assign heavy loads to a core separate from other processes. I also have a specific situation where I would like to run more than one instance of a specific app, but cannot when sharing the same processing environment.
What I've found so far By default, any and all processes are assigned an affinity that permits running on any and all available processors.The taskset utility can be used to modify the affinity for any process, which means that once an application/service/process has been launched, only then can the affinity be modified.It seems that the RH platform may also have a utility called tuna which might provide some tuning capabilities in addition to setting affinity but does not seem to be in the SuSE repositories and I cannot find source.Is there a reference or utility that can launch an application with a specified processor affinity?
Are there any tools available in openSUSE for evaluating cpu/processor performance. My processor/cpu is under warranty til end of October, will like to know whether I need to get new one or i am good. I am looking for something that can log an event and report. Have tried stress and crashme but they dont show any results.

I installed 11.2 and now 11.3RC1 on a new HW: ASUS M4N72-E with AMD Phenom2 X4 965, 8GB Memory, standard settings.
I experienced unusual errors when copying large files to the new system with scp/ssh (connection broken).
Even stranger I could not read .tgz files created on the older machine, same OS 11.2, but MB ASUS M2N32-SLI with AMD Phenom X4 9850
Testing further reveals that if I create a .gz file from the same source it produces every time a different output:

I never saw something like it, I guess it must be something with the underlying library not working on the new processor. I tried with slower memory speed, newest BIOS etc ...always the same errors. Other wise the system works absolutely stable.
When I compare the generated files with one created on the older system it looks like there are single bits missing in a random number of bites.
I consider building a new computer using a mainboard with support for two processors. I wish to do this to improve performance of course, specifically in regards to audio production. Though, what I would like to know is if anyone has some experience with using such a hardware on an ordinary desktop system and if there are some general implications I should be aware of?

My audio is at a very low level and would like to improve that.
Basically system monitor and the "top" command show 2 cpu cores when I only have 1 (a 3 Ghz P4 on my work computer).
I'm not sure if the two are related but I frequently get 100% CPU usage when running a few programs together (Kile, Firefox, Chrome and okular for example) at which point even the movement of the mouse cursor slows down.
I'm having a strange problem with my network connection/DNS. I turn computer the on and it recognizes and connects to wireless or wired but I can't access any Internet resources or my router. If I ping the default gateway, I get no response and I get DNS errors from any network services that run at start up. If I stop and start the network daemon then it all works fine until the next time I turn on my laptop. It does this for both wireless and wired connection.
I've tried to edit the network interface information in YaST but it says that configuration is handled by knetworkmanager and I have no idea where that information is accessed. I should point out that it all worked fine until I tried to connect to open WAP at my school and couldn't so I connected to the wired network. Next morning I had this problem when connecting to my home network. My questions are 1. What could be the cause of this error and 2. where does one configure the network interfaces when using knetworkmanager
I have Ubuntu 10.04 but I installed KDE for a try(which I'm not liking by the way >_>)I can use the volume control in GNOME still and I can control it with PusleAudio but I can't use my keyboard buttons for Pulse, only KMix. In Kmix though I can't find a master channel for HDMI.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to kUbuntu 10.04. I've been using Gnome for a few years now, and felt the need to try KDE again. I've managed to get my NVidia 8200 with HDMI audio working, but have one last annoying issue.
I can't control volume with my RF remote or keyboard.
More to the point, the keys control the sliders in kMix, but to no effect on the sound. This is likely because I need to use Pulseaudio to get my HDMI working. The sliders in Pulse volume control, control the volume nicely. Either I need a way to force kmix to talk to pulse, or a way to re-map these keys to control pulse.
I don't know what I did, or maybe it was some update. I'm running Kubuntu Maverick 64-bit. Kmix in system tray disappeared. Sometimes it shows up after some long time, but I haven't seen it for the last month. Kmix process still runs, and it takes one entire thread of my Intel i3 processor. Killing kmix and restarting it does not change anything. Sound applications work as expected, but I cannot change volume. They work well also when I kill kmix. When I invoke kmix from xterm, I get the following messages:
