OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Alsamixer Mic Setting Not Preserved

Aug 17, 2011

I was having trouble with using my T500's internal microphone, and I figured out that if I run alsamixer in terminal, and if I increase the level of "internal mic," then it works fine. Now the problem is that it seems periodically the setting reverts and I lose the mic volume and I have to re run alsamixer and do the setting again.

Is there any way I can set this setting in KDE, and preserve the setting once it is done?

General :: Save The Setting Of Alsamixer In Mandriva?

Apr 7, 2011

I used ubuntu and recently I install mandriva in to my laptop. I am using a headphone and when I listening to music I reduce speaker sounds and increase headphone and master sounds using "alsamiser -c 0" command in terminal. But at the end of each song, speaker sounds automatically increased.so I have to increase the headphone and master sound and reduce speaker sounds at beginning of every song.

When I restart the machine master, speaker and headphone sounds usualy become silence. Is there any why to save the alsamixer settings or any other way to correct this error.

Fedora :: Save Setting In Alsamixer - Get 6ch Every Time After Reboot?

Jul 21, 2010

I change the audio channels to 6 in alsamixer by choosing my sound card and change the channels to '6ch'. But this setting is not preserved. I see that after a reboot the channels are again going back to 2ch. I have to manually change everytime to 6ch after each reboot. Is there a way to save the setting in alsamixer so that I will get 6ch everytime after reboot? I am not sure I have explained my problem in a way so that you can understand.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Set Headphone Volume In Alsamixer

Jul 21, 2010

since updating my laptop to 10.04, I can't get any sound out of my headphones. If I plug the jack in, the sound from the loudspeakers turns off, but the headphones stay quiet.

I have run alsamixer and in fact the volume for the headphones is stuck to zero, and it's not possible to increase it.

My hardware config is posted here: [URL]

What I find funny, is that amixer reports that I don't have the capability of regulating the headphone volume:

Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
Capabilities: pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Mono:
Front Left: Playback [on]
Front Right: Playback [on]

I have also used the AlsaUpgrade script to get the latest version of alsa, but it still doesn't work.

Debian Multimedia :: Sound Volume Low Despite Alsamixer At 100 Percent

Aug 1, 2010

I've got a Toshiba L650, Debian testing/unstable, KDE4.4.5. The sound worked when I first installed everything (played a movie in dragon player, etc), but shortly thereafter it stopped working. It seems like the hardware is okay (all hardware is recognized, all relevant modules loaded, volume in alsamixer at 100%, the system beep -- set in the BIOS -- works), but I still can't get sound to play. Once or twice, right before KDE shutdown, I could hear the exit sound, but that's it. Last night I exited KDE (without hearing a sound), shutdown kdm, then:

mv $HOME $HOME.backup
mkdir $HOME
and restarted kdm and kde...still no sound! I created another user, and still no sound!

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Saving Alsamixer Volume Settings?

Apr 8, 2011

When i installed Ubuntu, everything worked fine, sound drivers installed automatically and volume was perfect. Then one day as I was talking to a friend on skype, I tried changing the output to speakers from my headset during the call and i didnt get any output. I tried changing a few settings, can't remember which ones exactly until I noticed someone had pulled the audio cable from the back of my PC. I replaced it but I started getting very very low sound.I found out about alsamixer and when I ran it, I found that the volume on that device was turned down, i turned it up and voila! sound back to normal. However, now when I reboot, my sound goes down again. I have tried deleting the asound.state file and running the save command, "sudo alsactl store 0" I think, as someone suggested, but no cigar.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Soundblaster SB0490 USB - Alsamixer Only Shows A Mic Channel For This Card Although It Has A Line In

Jun 24, 2010

I have a Creative SoundBlaster live SB0490 USB sound card. Alsamixer only shows a mic channel for this card although it has a line in. Is this because it is not supported or how it is meant to be? I have problems with no audio out on a program which directly accesses the card as hw:1 although it is actually using it and wonder if this is all related. Strangely I can play sound through the card using rythmbox.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Setting Mic In PulseAudio?

Jun 16, 2011

When I first installed 11.4 I was unable to access the usb webcam mic on Skype. I use Tumbleweed and after a couple of KDE updates I was able to access the webcam mic in Skype. I did this by setting the webcam mic as the first device to use in either pavucontrol or systemsettings>multimedia>phonon>audio capture. There have been many KDE updates since then and now I am back to having no mic in Skype. I will set my webcam mic as described above but pavucontrol will no longer save my changes. It is permanently stuck using internal audio analog stereo as the first capture device. My webcam mic is listed but it is four down on the list and Skype will not access it.

How can I get pavucontrol to save my preferences?

Fedora :: How Are Desktop Contents Preserved

Sep 29, 2010

I've tried experimenting, with no luck, so I am hoping someone here knows.I have a mythbox. FC13, KDE desktop.I am puzzled as to how KDE goes about deciding what windows and apps will be "on" during the next visit, and their positions. Because I do other media-related things with the system, I don't have it load up myth's front end automatically. I prefer having a "konsole" open and ready, For whatever reason, the "konsole" always comes up squarely over the KDE desktop panel.I've tried moving the console aside, to a preferred position, but no matter how I exit X (log out, computer shutdown by the "start" menu, shutdown via command line), the console is back where it is.The SIZE gets saved, but not the position.Similarly, sometimes I accidentally leave an app open when I do a reboot. Network Configuration, for example, or Firefox. When I log back in, there it is! And I'm not sure how to un-preserve that.

I'm not sure what settings I may need to make in the Partitioner to fix this.If I boot into a LiveCD of LinuxMint10-KDE and plug it in it is instantly identified as a "Media Device," and I have access into the MTP section of it I believe.

I prefer using Banshee, but will use Dolphin to manual drop files it I can get the Sansa drive to operate as with Read+Write. I've seen this device listed here at "plug and play" [URL]../HCL:Gadgets#Media_Players

Under this there is a speaker option which offers the choice of the source of sound to the speakers - from my sound card or from the internal Intel sound - which does not work, hence my sound card. WhenI choose my sound card the test L & R speaker sounds work fine - but it won't hold the setting after I have clicked "apply" and left the audio setup. It then reverts to the internal sound chip and, lo and behold, no sound is now produced

Slackware :: Having A Bug In Alsamixer?

Sep 20, 2010

I have an on mobo sound 'card' with an ordinary stereo jack that I use, but one of my graphics cards (Raedon) also has sound built into it. I don't use that, because the connector is some new thingie that I don't need or want.

Anyway, every other distro sees the two sound devices and automaticaly picks the right one and uses it with no trouble. (One distro, can't remember if it was fedora ... asked me to pick the device I wanted, but there was no trouble after that). It seems that with Slack, alsaconf, tho it lets me pick the right card, doesn't send that choice to alsamixer, so that the latter tries to unmute the wrong card.

'alsamixer -c 1'

fixes everything. This looks like a bug to me, but it also looks like it would be very easy to fix by just telling alsaconf to tell alsamixer which card to unmute, as seems to be done in other distros.
