General :: Save The Setting Of Alsamixer In Mandriva?
Apr 7, 2011
I used ubuntu and recently I install mandriva in to my laptop. I am using a headphone and when I listening to music I reduce speaker sounds and increase headphone and master sounds using "alsamiser -c 0" command in terminal. But at the end of each song, speaker sounds automatically increased.so I have to increase the headphone and master sound and reduce speaker sounds at beginning of every song.
When I restart the machine master, speaker and headphone sounds usualy become silence. Is there any why to save the alsamixer settings or any other way to correct this error.
I change the audio channels to 6 in alsamixer by choosing my sound card and change the channels to '6ch'. But this setting is not preserved. I see that after a reboot the channels are again going back to 2ch. I have to manually change everytime to 6ch after each reboot. Is there a way to save the setting in alsamixer so that I will get 6ch everytime after reboot? I am not sure I have explained my problem in a way so that you can understand.
Each time I boot into Ubuntu I have to mute the External Speaker within Alsamixer GUI in order to get sound.I have made several attempts to save this setting but without success Also read numerous threads and google search tips but no matter what I try it still results in having to open Alsamixer and manually mute the setting each time I launch Ubuntu.
This is pretty simple. I want to know if there is a way to save my settings in alsamixer. I hate having to have to access alsamixer everytime I boot my computer.
I was finally able to make the internal mic of my Vaio w12 work properly both sound recorder and in skype...I added this line in alsa-base.conf
Code: options snd-hda-intel model=auto The problem is that everytime i restart the netbook the "Input so" switch automatically to "Front mic" instead to keep the setting "Int mic".
I tried to use sudo alsa ctl store but nothing change...Maybe there is another way for to set "input so" to "Int mic" by default.Im using Ubuntu 9.10 desktop 32 bit.
alsamixer Raise my volume levels that start on 0) alsactl store alsactl: save_state:1530: Cannot open /etc/asound.state for writing: Read-Only file system...
so then I tried this.. [URL] Still a no go... Im on this oS [URL]
In karmic my settings are not retained, have to unmute in sound preferences or open alsamixer and raise master and speaker in Terminal. What is fix to save settings using 9.10 with card below. code...
I was having trouble with using my T500's internal microphone, and I figured out that if I run alsamixer in terminal, and if I increase the level of "internal mic," then it works fine. Now the problem is that it seems periodically the setting reverts and I lose the mic volume and I have to re run alsamixer and do the setting again.
Is there any way I can set this setting in KDE, and preserve the setting once it is done?
Installed 11.3 KDE today on an old Vaio desktop we were given (Duron 900Mhz, 512mb, 40Gb HD, SiS630 onboard video, Trinitron 15" monitor). Everything works fine except it will not save the 800x600 resolution setting. Every time I reboot it is back to 1280x1024 which it thinks is the default resolution. Any tweak to get 11.3 to save that setting?
Totem didn't play .avi movies by default after my new CentOS 5.3 install. In my effort to find a way to fix it I learned in another forum that installing VLC allows almost all video formats to be played. So I added RPMForge to my repository group then I found and installed VLC with no problem.
Now that VLC is installed and I've had a chance to use it, I've learned that it fails to save my brightness setting between launches. This is very frustrating because the default brightness is always too dark, which means I have to go to the controls and reset it every time I launch the software. Does anyone here know how I can save my brightness setting between launches?
I am here to ask for some assistance on YAST. When trying to change the date and time through YAST, and clicking on accept, I get an error message saying "cannot save configuration". This is on openSUSE 11.3 x86_64.
Installed smb4k on a fresh install of 11.04. When I tried to save the changes after setting up the preferences in smb4k, I got this error message: Configuration file "/root/.kde/share/config/smb4k_sudowriterrc" not writable. Please contact your system administrator. The file does not exist. There is only one file in the directory: kdebugrc I have smb4k successfully running on an EEE 1201PN with 11.04. Seems crazy but when I check this machine, there is no directory in root .kde.
I'm running fedora 12 on my Asus Z92VA laptop. Everything is running fine, except for the fact that I have no audio on my headphone. When I use the command "alsamixer -c0", there is no listing for the headphone.
When I use the command "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec" I get the following output:
sound on laptop running linux mint 9 isadora after restarting or if computer is idle. when the computer is idle for a while the sound will stop working even though it doesn't show muted. after restarting i have to run alsamixer and the master tab will be muted. i can unmute and it will work until the computer sits idle for a while.
I dual boot XP and Linux. Right now i've been running Mandriva but haven't been that satisfied with it as of late and am thinking of switching to the new Ubuntu. My question is, what would be the best way to go about this.. would i want to switch back to the windows bootloader, remove the linux partitions and then remake these partitions from free space during the Ubuntu install?
My main concern is wether it is necessary to switch back to the windows bootloader before proceeding (LILO currently) as i have no problem removing the old Mandriva partitions... I thought I'd reply to this thread rather than start a new one:
Doing almost the same thing with Mandriva, Vista & Grub going to Suse.
Am I to assume that I shouldn't have issues and that the Suse bootloader will overwrite Mandrivas? It is written in the MBR.
Now that I saw the poll of top distros for new users, I'm considering Ubuntu & Mint as well.
Will any distro's bootloader overwrite a prior version?
I have a completely new desktop and I have installed Ubuntu on it. That happened yesterday, today morning there is no internet connection on my desktop. I don't know what happened.
Anyway after all I have decided to put Mandriva over Ubuntu - that was the original plan - but now I am facing problems with installing Mandriva.
1st. The oriiginal cd drive is not recognised by Ubuntu Therefore I am using an old drive which at least is working.
2nd I cannot run Mandriva dvd.
My questions:
How can I delete Ubuntu and replace it with Mandriva? If this is too difficult, I would switch back to Windows 7. At least in Windows I have a bit of experience. The windows 7 dvd it cannot be run also.
I am planning to buy ASUS Eee PC 1000HE Netbook in near future and want newest Mandriva on it with KDE 3.5. Just wondering how Mandriva performs on this netbook? Do all the features work or is there any tweaking I have to do to get the best results? Anyone using Mandriva on ASUS Eee PC 1000HE? Is so, then what's your experience so far?
i'm using mandriva spring powerpack on a samsung n210. after the installation the screen went fuzzy. i logged on as root, and did XFdrake selected xorg vesa and nv but i still get the same issue. the screen res is at 1024x600. can anyone recommend an alternative xserver. the free version worked fine, i just don't know what it uses
I am running Mandriva x64 and the nepoumuk file indexing was causing system hangups (in addition to not returning any results) so i disabled it. However kfind is not returning any results either - i feel a bit stupid and I'm sure there's a simple answer to this but How do i locate files under Mandriva linux? Is there a simple KDE application for that or do i need to look at kfind settings? Does file search only work with indexed database?
I installed mandriva 2010 power pack. But the sound is not working ! the sound card is detected and when i play a song the player shows that it is playing it but no sound is there!! no channel is muted!
