I originally uninstalled KMail but now i would like to try it out again and get more familiar with it.
Problem is, since i upgraded to KDE 4.5 i can't.
There is always some dependencies issue. code...
When trying to start KMail it attempts to start Akanodi, this fails and so does KMail.
The only solutions I could find are here: Akonadi 4.4/Troubleshooting - KDE UserBase

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using kmail on opensuse (11.2) for about 3 months with few issues. I usually launch using alt+F2, type "kma" and it appears top of the list. I have turned on my laptop today and kmail has simply disappeared. I have gone through the ghekko and the only mail client listed is thunderbird. It is not in the alt+F2 menu. If I type kmail in konsole I get the "if kmail is not a typo" speech. I've also tried using kontact (for the first time) to see if my mail appears there

It appears that libreadline5 may be the source of this problem with dependencies.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a way to install kdebase 4.7 with no additional dependencies. My target is home desktop and I only want these : kdm, plasma, ark, dolphin, kdesu, konsole, okteta, kwrite, kate, kmix, ksnapshot. There are things I don't use but they get installed anyway and break kdm if removed. These things are : akonadi, strigi, nepomuk, virtuoso, kfind, kgreeter and a couple of others, including libqtzeitgeist0 and PIM in general. Also I don't want kdm 4.7 features hence I use kdm3 as a login manager. Is there a 4.7 build that doesn't mind the removal of so called base components? If not, is there a 4.4 repo for 11.4?

Update to 5.3 went OK a few days ago.Today there is updated kernel packages available but it fails dependencies on ecryptfs-utils.

In order to avoid interferences with the installed version, I had first removed the installed version. But now Yast wants to re-install this old version with any package installation or upgrade because it sees unresolved dependencies. How can I stop it to add this packages? Or how can I tell Yast that the hplip packages are installed?

I'm currently running Fedora 13 and updated the system in the morning with the help of 'yumex'. It complained about a couple of unresolved dependencies regarding new kernel and kmod-nvidia, so I manually skipped these packages for now (this happened before some time ago and worked then a couple of days later). I installed all other packages like firefox, thunderbird, kde, gnome pidgin etc. though.
I think I remember also to have seen some X11 stuff, but aren't quite sure (not updating often, so always getting quite a number of packages at once). The problem is that the system doesn't start any longer. The start screen shows the blue progress bar, then flickers and the system halts. I tried to start any of the last two older kernels but with the same result. When running in verbose mode I can see the following:

There are a couple of more successful steps afterwards, but the system will never start. I tried a different runlevel by appending 'init 2' to the startup line, but wasn't able to login with any of my users. In despair I tried the link 'Updating to Fedora 13' from the boot menu, but it isn't actually offering an upgrade, but a complete re-install instead.
I've been trying all morning to update from a working 9.10 to 10.04 and unfortunately every time I try it blocks me.
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.

I am very frustrated with OpenSUSE. This got rid of yum and instead have YaST which is a pain for me. This is an example of the error I receive when trying to do an update via YaST, YaST2, or zypper. Basically, curl is broken. With out it functioning normally, I can't use openSUSE's update mechanism to fix my system. I tried installing the RPM from tcpflow website. error: Failed dependencies: libpcap.so.0.6.2 is needed by tcpflow-0.21-1.i386 I installed libpcap1-32bit, but doesn't help. I tried added soft-link to libpcap.so.1.0.0 from libpcap.so.0.6.2 to workaround, doesn't help. hen I DLed the tarball, ./configure gives an error, even after including --with-pcap=/usr/lib64/libpcap.so.1.0.0 checking for --with-pcap option... configure: error: /usr/lib64/libpcap.so.1.0.0 does not exist I CAN'T install the rpm, I CAN't compile from source. I can't find this program on any suse repo. I need to use this prog -- what can I do?

I have recently created a KDE 4 desktop using suse studio, it boots up fine on my machine, but doesn't shutdown!!
On my mum's laptop, which I will be using it most on, (it's windoez) it won't start KDE 4 at all! I can use the console, but I wanted to impress her with the amazing GUI and Compiz. And you can't make presentations or browse the web in a console, can you?
And sudo poweroff and sudo shutdown -h now don't work either!
I'm having a strange issue with Filezilla that doesn't affect any other apps.I know my network isnt IPv6 friendly, so I've disabled it in Firefox and in Ubuntu - everything bar Filezilla finds and resolves addresses properly. Filezilla just gives me the responses below, trying to connect to 1.0.0.0:21 for any domain I try to FTP to. If I then go to terminal and do an ftp ftp.asdad.com etc, once terminal has resolved the domain, filezilla works - very odd. how I can stop having to do this step in terminal?

I'd like to create a Live Usb Stick to test it and install it if I like it but it doesn't seem to work.
I tried the website method, using "Win32DiskImager.exe" but the program doesn't work for me (WinXP) : it looks like it's writing but when the "Done" message is prompted, I'm unable to access the usb key, Windows says it's not formatted. That doesn't look right...
I tried with LinuxLive Usb Creator but the boot process fails and Universal-Usb-Installer doesn't offer an Opensuse option.
Is there another way to install the distribution on an USB stick ? I could still try through Ubuntu but that would be quite surrealistic.
I am trying to install opensuse on an IBM 8188 desktop with a single SATA hdd. The software appears to load just fine.. standard install but when I reboot the box .. believing it should just boot from the hard drive I get the message no OS installed. I've adjusted the bios and the drive order and I have changed to install parameters for APC or APIC.... you know what I mean... doesn't matter NO JOY IN MUD VILLE.

This is a dual boot with Windows XP. Machine boots into windows as expected.
It's been a while since I've use linux (specifically suse). But my wife and I are expecting our first child and our office/second bedroom is now being converted into the baby room. I built the computer that is currently in there and it is a really nice one that I do not want to get rid of. and I am installing packages through yast2, and all the packages installed fine except for 'compat-readline4'. I think this is a form of command line editor or something to do with that. I am sure I am going to need it to finish the server set up, but I can't get it installed anywhere. I've tried to install it by pointing directly to the mirror found at rpm.pbone.net and still I get nowhere.
Yast2 auto refresh seems to fail everytime I run it. Even though I installed all the other packages, I get an error message that says it can't get the medium. When I look at the details of the error it says it can't resolve the host for downloads.opensuse.org.
Did a new install of F14 on a T61 Thinkpad w/ Motorola DSL router (ATT supplied). The install was smooth and had no indications of problems.
When I went to use the browser, it showed a functional Fedora website. But if I try to go to goggle or any other web address, the browser complains that it can't resolve the web address.?
