OpenSUSE :: INSTALL Compat-expat1*.rpm Either Way It Shows Dependencies That CAN'T Figure Out?
Feb 25, 2010
I am very frustrated with OpenSUSE. This got rid of yum and instead have YaST which is a pain for me. I CANT INSTALL compat-expat1*.rpm either way....it shows dependencies that CAN'T figure outI'm using open SUSE 11 so no yum and just YaST (which I don't understand how to install this from there, can you give me more detailed explanation). The following message appears:Package /home/Downloads/compat-expat1-1.95.8-6.i686.rpm could not be installed.Details:
I installed slackware 13.1 (64) but I didn't install kde because I am using fluxbox. Now I would like to install k3b. I have gslapt installed but there are no dependencies listed. The k3b website says that kde is a requirement but that can't be true. find the dependencies of the official slackware package. The slackware book does not seem to have that information.
Iam using opensuse 11.1. I want to know which is the best player that can be used in suse, which should support all codecs. I have tried totem player, xine, kaffeine, Noautun etc. But none of them is good. I have tried to install vlc player, but it shows a lot of dependencies too..it was not successful.
*edit Nevermind I think I found it on YAST * I have been having trouble finding the "make command":If 'make' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this: cnf makeI need to install 'make', 'g++', and all other building tools for suse.
I have an HP DV7 laptop with AR928X Wireless Network Adaptor.Running 11.2.Wireless link was fine for 802.11G, but very flaky when I tried to move to 802.11N.I have downloaded the most recent compat-wireless for my kernel. How does one replace the "stock" version of ath9k with the new one, or does it happen "automagically" ?
Does anyone know how I can install the following dependencies? libcrypto.so.0.9.7 is needed by amanda-backup_client-3.2.0-1.suse10.0.i586 libcurl.so.3 is needed by amanda-backup_client-3.2.0-1.suse10.0.i586 libssl.so.0.9.7 is needed by amanda-backup_client-3.2.0-1.suse10.0.i586 I tried through yast with no luck.
I'm looking for a way to install kdebase 4.7 with no additional dependencies. My target is home desktop and I only want these : kdm, plasma, ark, dolphin, kdesu, konsole, okteta, kwrite, kate, kmix, ksnapshot. There are things I don't use but they get installed anyway and break kdm if removed. These things are : akonadi, strigi, nepomuk, virtuoso, kfind, kgreeter and a couple of others, including libqtzeitgeist0 and PIM in general. Also I don't want kdm 4.7 features hence I use kdm3 as a login manager. Is there a 4.7 build that doesn't mind the removal of so called base components? If not, is there a 4.4 repo for 11.4?
I bought a new HP printer and had to install the latest HPLIP version. I had to compile it and install it from source. In order to avoid interferences with the installed version, I had first removed the installed version. But now Yast wants to re-install this old version with any package installation or upgrade because it sees unresolved dependencies. How can I stop it to add this packages? Or how can I tell Yast that the hplip packages are installed?
I originally uninstalled KMail but now i would like to try it out again and get more familiar with it. Problem is, since i upgraded to KDE 4.5 i can't. There is always some dependencies issue. code...
I have a few questions on installing of mydns on page-5 of Till's guide: (The Perfect Server - OpenSUSE 11.1 [ISPConfig 3] - Page 5 | HowtoForge - Linux Howtos and Tutorials)
I'm encountering a strange problem. I need to open and forward all UDP and TCP ports related to VoIPtelephony (5000:32000) in the Suse 11.1 server that's acting as router/firewall in our setup. The ports must redirect to a Asterisk server in the local network. (This server has the IP adress 192.168.0.3)I've opened ports in Yast (Firewall>Ports>Advanced) and putted in some masquerading rulesirewall>Masquerading):0/0,192.168.0.3,tcp,5000:31000,5000:310000/0,192.168.0.3,udp,5000:31000,5000:31000when I do a nmap localhost I get:Starting Nmap 4.75 at 2010-01-08 16:52 CETInteresting ports on localhost (127.0.0.1):

I tried installing the RPM from tcpflow website. error: Failed dependencies: libpcap.so.0.6.2 is needed by tcpflow-0.21-1.i386 I installed libpcap1-32bit, but doesn't help. I tried added soft-link to libpcap.so.1.0.0 from libpcap.so.0.6.2 to workaround, doesn't help. hen I DLed the tarball, ./configure gives an error, even after including --with-pcap=/usr/lib64/libpcap.so.1.0.0 checking for --with-pcap option... configure: error: /usr/lib64/libpcap.so.1.0.0 does not exist I CAN'T install the rpm, I CAN't compile from source. I can't find this program on any suse repo. I need to use this prog -- what can I do?
Completely erased my windows finally to load up opensuse 11.3. It's amazing!!Only one problem. I can use a usb stick and it automatically shows up. When I plug in my microSD into my usb adapter I get an error message. 've seen lots of posts about this error message but everything I've read has been way over my head.
I'm using OpenSUSE 11.2 64 bit. Sometimes boot fails and I get a black screen. It starts quite normal, but when it tries to start X and KDE, it fails and I only see a black screen. I can't switch to terminal and I can not reboot my computer by pressing "Ctrl + Alt + Del". It doesn't even shutdown by pressing the power-button. The only possibility is to switch off the computer. Then it normally starts.
The problem also occures with a clean installation of OpenSuse. And it cannot be solved by updating kernel, X-Server and KDE.
What files do you need? I'll post them.
The same computer worked fine with OpenSUSE 11.1. I think, the new radeon driver could be the problem, I have to use it because I can not use fglrx anymore as with 11.1
I take a look into my log-files, but I cannot see any error. Sometimes it seems, that /var/log/messages is partly overwritten by restarting the machine.
I am running an Opensuse 11.2 system as a backup file server. Several external hard drives are attached via USB and mounted during boot via the fstab file. Recently, I noticed the df command showed the root partition being >65% full, while the du command showed the same drive was only about 20% full. After much investigation, I discovered that some large directories had been created under the /media folder on the root partition that were hidden when the external drives were mounted as directories with the same names under /media. I could only see this when I rebooted with a live CD and mounted the suspect partition without the external drives mounted. Is there a way to examine whether a mounted partition has existing files "hidden" when a separate file system is mounted "on top of it"?
Everything went fine but whenever I rebooted, Ubuntu 10.10 was not an option in the boot list. However, Windows shows up and boots just fine. I am currently tri booting (not sure if that's the correct term) Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.10, and OpenSuse each on a hard drive of their own. In the dolphin file manager I can still see all the files for Ubuntu so I know it was not partitioned over or deleted.
Just installed 11.3 on a older Dell Dimension 8200 with a D-Link DWA-160 N dual band USB card. The install went ok and the card works (seems a little slow right now but that is next on the list). However, when I run YOU I get the following conflict:
"compat-wireless-kmp-default-2.6.37_k2.6.34.0_12-17.1.i586 requires kernel (default:drivers_usb_core)=6faa2c62dac4f41d, but this requirement cannot be met. Uninstallable providers: kernel-default-base-2.6.34-12.3.i586[openSUSE-11.3 11.3-1.82]"
when the system wants to install patch:Kernel-3038.noarch and patch:Kernel-3709.noarch. I cannot seem to find a suitable provider for the default:drivers_usb_core. Is this something to address here or do I need to go to [URL]?
i'm new to opensuse and i'm liking it so far. I was trying to figure out how to play avi,mp4's and dvd's. I have accomplished to get an avi working in totem but not in banshee or mplayer or kaffeine. I can't seem to get the mp4 player playing or a dvd. All media players come up with an error, whether for a missing codec or no video out.
I cannot figure out how to install Flash on Fedora 12. Which is the best option for downloading and where is a good tutorial on how to "unpackage" something?
setting up a wireless network, so bear with me. I just bought a Cisco wireless router and the little USB plug ins (which if I may say, are overly expensive). I can not figure out how to install the router. It is a Linksys E1000 Wireless N Router. I tried to load the software via wine. No luck doing that. I also checked out on Linksys's website and they don't give any info on linux or Ubuntu. Does someone out there know something? Or should I just take this one back and purchase something else
I used to have my print server with cups in openSUSE 11.1 and it used to work perfect. I was able to print from both linux machines and windows. But since I Installed openSUSE 11.2, I'm only able to print from linux machines. In windows XP I'am able to find the printer and install the drivers, and everything seems to work, but when I send the print command, it creates an error. I have three XP pcs that were running perfectly, and now neither one of them print, so I know is a problem with the server itself. I have all the samba and cups services activated, and the firewall is set correctly, but can't figure out why it is working with linux machines and not with windows.
I am trying to figure out how to install this program i found atIt is a simle application that monitors systems.I have uncompressed it but i cant figure out how to install it.it's driving me nuts reading many websites on installing things and getting no place after a week.
I've attempted to find the .inf for this card's driver, but to no avail. My plan was to use ndiswrapper to install the driver, but without the .inf I'm at a brick wall!
Ive been using opensuse for a little while now. Recently ran into a problem My favorite mouse broke, so i went out and got a travel one. It has a very toucht third button under the scroll wheel. Apperently this button is to paste, but every time i scroll, it makes my life miserable, especially when im reading a lengthy page in firefox. I cannot figure out how to program the buttons. Ive googled, and seen some programs that MIGHT help. but this seems to be something that is built in to the OS. The mouse yast plugin doesnt give you the choice of shuting off the third button, or even reassigning it. I want the paste functionality GONE from my **** mouse
