View 2 RepliesI installed fedora core 10 on my pc & now i have been trying to install samba. I dont have a network so i mount and use my dvd for installation. I lack exotic package management tools like apt or yum yet the system-config-packages tool does not make sense either. so am stuck with the rpm -ivh [package] command.
The issue however is that this command returns querries about missing dependencies when I attempt to install. So is there a way (switch) i can add to tell the rpm command to automatically check and solve these dependecies using the Packages folder on my mounted dvd? - because i believe all these dependencies are on the dvd.
I originally uninstalled KMail but now i would like to try it out again and get more familiar with it.
Problem is, since i upgraded to KDE 4.5 i can't.
There is always some dependencies issue. code...
Is there a way to install automatically dependencies for rpm's?

It appears that libreadline5 may be the source of this problem with dependencies.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHe was having problems with python and python-devel complaining about conflicting versions or some such when he was updating with yum. I told him (yes, a little of this is my fault) to try removing and reinstalling python and/or python-devel. Little did I know... He ran "yum remove python" and it listed over 600 (!) dependent packages to remove as well. Without telling me THAT part he clicked "y" and then watched as yum removed python and all sorts of other stuff (including yum--how's that for irony?) .
I have to go deal with this situation tomorrow morning but he has so blown away this system I almost don't know where to start. Sure I could re-download the rpm of python and reinstall, it but then I'd still have to one-by-one reinstall all the other rpms that were blown away by the python removal with yum. I do take at least partial responsibility for this. But really? 600+ packages and he clicked "y"? Yeesh. Oh, it's a RHEL 5 machine.
apt-cache show <package> shows also it's dependencies.yum info <package> does not show dependencies, but it obviously know them. How to ask yum for dependencies of specified package?

I am currently trying to upgrade over 100 rpms on multiple Red Hat servers. Whenever I try to do a rpm -u /packages/*.rpm i recieve a failed dependencies error on the very first rpm. I am running a video script on my server and I am very new to running a dedicated server and commands. Most of our site was setup but other and someone has broke something and no one seems to know how to fix.
Here is the issue. We run a script that uses these requirements
[Mod edit]Adult content Link removed
requirements
Now our server guy ran a update inside webmin for debian and now our videos still convert but wont make thumbs. Here is what he did.
Now updating libsmbclient ..
Now the AVS script wont make thumbs and webmin still wants to do 3 more updates that get unmet dependencies errors. Here they are when we try to run another update.
Building complete list of updates ..
Now what we need to do is either undo the update he already did or maybe get the one its asking for now to work but not sure which one will fix our thumb generating problem? Here is the error in the log file of the AVS script.

I am working on a project that sets up packages on the cloud.
For example, If i want to setup Drupal, i need seperate machines to maintain separate tasks, like mysql in one machine(cloud instance/node 1), apache server in another machine(cloud instance/node 2), etc.
So if drupal.rpm has dependencies apache.rpm(has deps too) and mysql.rpm(has deps too)
Is it possible in rpm package manager(yum) to handle such customizations & above requirement?
I do encounter when I try to install this file:
[root@mypc]# rpm -ivh sysstat-7.0.2-3.el5.i386.rpm
warning: sysstat-7.0.2-3.el5.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 37017186
error: Failed dependencies:
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4) is needed by sysstat-7.0.2-3.el5.i386
rtld(GNU_HASH) is needed by sysstat-7.0.2-3.el5.i386
Also when I try this also not work
# yum install sysstat
-bash: yum: command not found
However the os and email server working fine on it. What should I check and try it.
I am trying to install a program called PQLII (seismology related). I'm running Red Hat Linux Fedora 9. When I installed the OS, I selected "Everything". When I run:
rpm -ivh PQL-2009-246.i386.rpm
It returns:
error: Failed dependencies:
libXFixes.so.3 is needed by PQL-2009-246
libXinerama.so.1 is needed by PQL-2009-246
rtld(GNU_HASH) is needed by PQL-2009-246
OK, so I google the 3 files listed and download them which I found on [URL]. None of the filenames listed matched precisely those listed, but I downloaded files that were as near a match as possible, i.e:
libXfixes-4.0.3-3.fc9.i386.rpm
libXinerama-1.0.3-1.fc9.i386.rpm
glibc-2.8-3.i386.rpm
Being the logical type, I first try to install libXfixes-4.0.3-3.fc9.i386.rpm since it's listed first, but it generates:
error: Failed dependencies:
rtld(GNU_HASH) is needed by libXfixes-4.0.3-3.fc9
Ok, so then I run:
rpm -ivh glibc-2.8-3.i386.rpm
which generates:
error: Failed dependencies:
glibc-common = 2.8-3 is needed by glibc-2.8-3
I persevere, search for and download glibc-common-2.8-3.i386.rpm.
rpm -ivh glibc-common-2.8-3.i386.rpm
generates:
error: Failed dependencies:
glibc = 2.8-3 is needed by glibc-common-2.8-3
tzdata >= 2003a is needed by glibc-common-2.8-3
Am I downloading the wrong files?
