Tofirst automatic software update was launched on my newly installed openSUSE 11.2 - and apparently it replaced Firefox 3.6.4 with 3.5.9.I tried to find out how to install 3.6.4 using YaST2, but adding the following repository didn't help me any further:Index of /repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.2What do I need to do to have YaST2 install the latest firefox version?
View 8 RepliesI installed Ubuntu 5 days ago....looked great....seemed to offer everything I want. Then I clicked on the firefox icon and it brought up Google ...Great!....Then I said ..this is easy..I'll have a look at my share-trading dynamic platform. Searched for Commsec and clicked 'launch Webiress'...and then it hiccupped! I got a message saying I needed Java "Now downloading".....Okay I've had this happen in windows...no problemo.. Then I tried to follow the instructions contained on the download page from Java....thats what started my five days (30 hours now and counting) of misery.
Finally on one of the hundreds of Ubuntu pages I've read I found that there is a bug in java....that prevents it from working with the Firefox that Ubuntu provides. So I cleverly removed firefox ....and went to Mozilla and downloaded a new version 3.6 of Firefox.....followed the instructions at Sourceforge.net (and other places I can't remember). Now I have Firefox in a folder in 'Documents' with libjavaplugin_oji.so linked to ///java/jre.6.0_21/plugin/i386/ns7... But when I try to fire up Webiress I still get the messsage "Java not installed ...now downloading".
I havent used Linux in a long time. I dug up an old copy of Suse (version8.2), and installed it on an old 599MHZ PC. Ive been trying to update the various libraries to be able to get a updated version of Firefox installed. Is there any chance that this can work? I need to know if Im wasting my time and should just put winxp on this PC. Also, I cant get any repositories working. I assume the default ones I have on the Suse installation are bad and the ones for the later versions will not work.

The problem is that when I open Wine File the .wine-x86_64 folder reappears. I don't even know where the 32 bit folder is.

I have an HP OfficeJet 6500 wireless all in one.I've tried using the HPLIP that comes in the distro, uninstalling that and installing the scripted installer from the site, and manually installing the RPM.Yast isn't detecting my printer, whether I try a USB install or over the network.I have all the dependencies, CUPS is up to date, and this printer is detected by Fedora and Kubuntu.

Currently, the interface seems to be set up correctly in the YaST network settings thing, labeled as wlan0, and it doesn't have the 'Not Connected' indicator after it.
EDIT: iwconfig doesn't list wlan0; it just lists eth0 and lo0, saying neither have a wireless extension
Do we need another repository with the sole purpose of upgrading firefox to a new security level?This should be added to the opensuse update repo and picked up automatically by the update applet...

When your chosen spelling dictionary is Polish and you enter text in English into box#1 and then into box#2, and then you decide to review your spelling, you can change the active dictionary to English. However, this will affect the spelling of box#2 only, which is good because box#1 might actually be in Polish. So you go back to box#1 and change the dictionary to English? Nope; the dictionary is English already so choosing English has no effect and the words are still marked as incorrect!
What you need:
A frame with two text areas, e.g. Bugzilla.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Set the spelling dictionary to Polish.
2. Enter "damaged " into box#1.
3. Enter "damaged " into box#2.
4. While in box#2, choose the English spelling dictionary.

New to Suse. Have been driving Zorin, where all updates can happen at once. Have been trying to update Firefox (3.5.10) to new ver and Yast doesn't seem to be aware of it. Do I need to compile? My Zorin package (Ubuntu variant) sees each Firefox and everything else update and installs or gives me option. What do I need to do in Suse to get up to ver 3.6.8, and why isn't Yast aware?

Yet Grub does *not* appear to be on the Windows partition.
More verbose:I have an older MacBook Pro (3.1, running Snow Leopard) that I recently refitted with a new 240GB SSD HD. With the extra space (it was previously only 120GB) I decided to add a dual boot with Windows 7 using bootcamp. This all went swimmingly well.Encouraged, I decided to follow this Lifehacker article's suggestion and triple-boot the machine with Ubuntu (I'd never used Linux before):So I now have the nice rEFIt boot partition selection screen, and, indeed, I'm up and running in Ubuntu, and enjoying it.
Only one problem: I can't get into Windows any more. If I try to go in through rEFIt *or* by holding down OPT at startup and selecting the windows partition directly, the result is the same: I get thrown into Grub's selector, and selecting the Windows partition from there leads to an error message and a dead end.Having read through numerous postings, I get the impression that Grub is doing something or living somewhere that it ought not to be, but in most cases I've seen, people had accidentally installed Grub onto the Windows partition (or indeed onto EVERY partition). I just got Clear Internet and when I used the PPA from Ubuntuzilla I could see the update was available but it said "A recomended security and stability update is available, but you do not have the system permissions to install it. contact your system adminstrator or try again from an account that has permission to access from this computer". Why would a change in isp's do this, it is not logical, is it?

I like openSUSE 11.3 very much. When I move the mouse pointer to the upper left corner of the screen, my active window is immediately replaced by 4, smaller windows (I think that at the beginning I had a cube). I'm afraid this gobbles up a lot of memory and henceforth slows down my computer. Is it possible to have only one window "active" at the time? If I want, say a terminal screen, I can always activate it via the "Computer" button?

I may have replaced the "pictures" folder tat was already on there, but I'm not sure if it was there in the first place. (Doesn't remember the "Are you sure you want to replace..." warning <.< >.>) I enabled hidden files, and there was a folder called .Trashes, instead of what you'd normally get. I copied my pictures onto my desktop, and then cleared the ones on the USB drive (left the folder). There was a folder named .000Trash-, or whatever it usually is. Only my pictures are in there. I'm confused, and don't tell me the pictures that were originally on the USB are gone forever.There's a tool for Windows, called Glary's Uilities that can get them back, supposedly. Some time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point

I just got a pop up that said that there is a Firefox Ubdate that I do not have the authority to install. It gives a link of www.firefox.com to go to for the latest firefox. I checked the Update manager. No update. All of Mozilla links in google say Mozilla. I feel sure this is an attempt to install malware. It came up when I went to cnet and I guess I shoule include a picture of it. Does anybody have any experience with this?
I went on to read cnet and the first article was about major add servers serving up adds that automaticly install malware. I guess this was a case of that. I had addblocker disabled at the time but noscript active. Looks to me like having noscript saved me an infection. Be careful out there.
I'm staying with 11.1 (sic) because it works well enough, so what a pleasant surprise to find an update to Firefox 3.5 waiting for me inside YaST, I'd have expected only updates to 3.0.
