OpenSUSE :: Firefox 3.6.3 No Update Option?
Apr 18, 2010
On my Windows xp computer, when i open Firefox 3.6.3 and go into the preferences I can click "update" and firefox can check for updates and download and install them all from inside the browser.I have Firefox 3.6.3 on Opensuse 11.2, and in the firefox preferences in the 'update' section there is no way to download or install updates.Is it impossible for Firefox to update and install by from inside firefox in OpenSuse?Do we need to use the command line or Yast or one click installs to install software on opensuse? Can't Firefox update from inside Firefox without yast or command line?

How can I make the security applet stop showing an update for firefox 3.5.9? I have a more recent version installed from mozilla repo: firefox 3.6. The mozilla repo already has a higher priority (95 instead of 99), so I don't know what to do.

I've installed opensuse 11.3 on my computer (well actually Ive done it twice, once with full DVD image and once with network install). Everything was OK until Ive made update (yast/software/online update <-- BTW kupdate applet isn't working, just update bar appear and stuck on 0%). i haven't installed any additional packages, only the defaults (KDE desktop). after update only fail safe option is working (booting normally and looks like normal desktop, no visual differences between normal and fail safe booting, if there should been any). When I've tried to find solution for this problem, very ofter answers were -> graphic drivers problem (im using ati hd 4670 AGP <-- yea, AGP . well when i start normal boot green screen with lizard logo appear, then screen goes black for a second or two, then the green screen come again, and after another few second screen goes black permanently with working hdd for 30-40 second (hdd led blinking) BTW i have windows7 pro (booting fine) on this machine too, it was installed as first system on hd0,0. opensuse was installed on stand alone PATA disk (secondary EIDE master, ODD on slave). how to gather info which u all need to get this problem more detailed. PS> sorry for my English, its not my native language.

Do we need another repository with the sole purpose of upgrading firefox to a new security level?This should be added to the opensuse update repo and picked up automatically by the update applet...

Firefox checks spelling in text areas, which is good. However, the dictionary it uses is global and dictionary changes do not reflect across text areas. When your chosen spelling dictionary is Polish and you enter text in English into box#1 and then into box#2, and then you decide to review your spelling, you can change the active dictionary to English. However, this will affect the spelling of box#2 only, which is good because box#1 might actually be in Polish. So you go back to box#1 and change the dictionary to English? Nope; the dictionary is English already so choosing English has no effect and the words are still marked as incorrect!
What you need:
A frame with two text areas, e.g. Bugzilla.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Set the spelling dictionary to Polish.
2. Enter "damaged " into box#1.
3. Enter "damaged " into box#2.
4. While in box#2, choose the English spelling dictionary.
5. Return to box#1.
6. Append text "damaged " (once more).
Actual results:
2. box#1: damaged
3. box#2: damaged
4. box#2: damaged
6. box#1: damaged damaged
Expected result:
6. box#1: damaged damaged

New to Suse. Have been driving Zorin, where all updates can happen at once. Have been trying to update Firefox (3.5.10) to new ver and Yast doesn't seem to be aware of it. Do I need to compile? My Zorin package (Ubuntu variant) sees each Firefox and everything else update and installs or gives me option. What do I need to do in Suse to get up to ver 3.6.8, and why isn't Yast aware?

I'm running Opensuse 3 on an EEE PC, and so far had no problems. I brought it to another house today and now Firefox seems to be unable to connect to the network.. Network is working however, as Skype is running fine. Online update won't work either.

Some time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point

I'm staying with 11.1 (sic) because it works well enough, so what a pleasant surprise to find an update to Firefox 3.5 waiting for me inside YaST, I'd have expected only updates to 3.0.

bouncing icon and spinning icon in toolbar for 10-20 seconds, then nothing. Is there a special log file to be found for mozilla errors? (couldn't find anything useful in or near /var/log/messages or warnings all dependencies of associated programmes seem to fulfil dependencies, but obviously something isn't right. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I havent used Linux in a long time. I dug up an old copy of Suse (version8.2), and installed it on an old 599MHZ PC. Ive been trying to update the various libraries to be able to get a updated version of Firefox installed. Is there any chance that this can work? I need to know if Im wasting my time and should just put winxp on this PC. Also, I cant get any repositories working. I assume the default ones I have on the Suse installation are bad and the ones for the later versions will not work.

when I go to download 11.3 I am presented with the installation medium for a DVD installation with a button that says download DVD. Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.

Recently I have installed Fedora 10. It comes with firefox 3.xx by default. Now I was wondering if there is any way through which i can update it to 3.5 version though yum. I have tried yum update firefox but it did not work and returns following messages Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update I know that one way to update is download the latest Tar package and use it, but I want to totally remove my previous installation and use solely one package i.e. firefox 3.5.

After updating/upgrading my packages this morning, the terminal profile preferences screen (Edit > Profile Preferences) no longer had the option at the bottom for setting the default terminal size. This is a problem because the default size went from the 132x43 I had set it to down to 80x24. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on three machines and had this problem on all of them. After noticing the problem on the first machine, I checked the option screens of the other machines before upgrading. The default size option was there before the upgrades, but after upgrading, it was gone.
Here is the aptitude log from the upgrade:
[UPGRADE] ant 1.7.1-4ubuntu1 -> 1.7.1-4ubuntu1.1
[UPGRADE] ant-gcj 1.7.1-4ubuntu1 -> 1.7.1-4ubuntu1.1
[UPGRADE] ant-optional 1.7.1-4ubuntu1 -> 1.7.1-4ubuntu1.1
[UPGRADE] ant-optional-gcj 1.7.1-4ubuntu1 -> 1.7.1-4ubuntu1.1
[UPGRADE] gnome-terminal 2.29.6-0ubuntu5 -> 2.30.2-0ubuntu1
[UPGRADE] gnome-terminal-data 2.29.6-0ubuntu5 -> 2.30.2-0ubuntu1
[UPGRADE] google-chrome-stable 6.0.472.62-r59676 -> 6.0.472.63-r59945
[UPGRADE] libphonon4 4:4.6.2-0ubuntu5 -> 4:4.6.2-0ubuntu5.1 .....
It's almost surely gnome-terminal or gnome-terminal-data, but I included the full list just in case. What are my options for fixing this? Should I try rolling back the upgrade? Should I not bother with that and just try setting the default terminal size through other means?

Why isn't there a clear warning against selecting the 'update' option in Meerkat?I know it seems like a good idea to have it, but unless a server speed test is run, it adds a huge amount of time to the install (3 1/2 hours of downloading so far). It's not my internet connection (ADSL2+ - fast), so it must be an overloaded server and/or congested intercontinental data pipes.
After the installation, it's possible to find one's optimal (fastest) server before running updates - and I know from past experience that this makes a huge difference to little old me in Australia. I can certainly update everything much faster than I am currently seeing . I strongly recommend that, if this option is kept in future distributions, it should include a server speed test (and auto selection of the best server?) as well as a realistic warning to the user.

I am having some hang issues with firefox and am not sure what can be the problem. Here is my specs:
Toshiba Satellite L35 Laptop
Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid / Windows Vista Home Basic dual boot
Atheros Integrated NIC
Firefox v3.6.3
Everything is working fine on the network side, being confirmed by both my wife's EEE Netbook, and my iPod(r) Touch. There is no problem with my network interfaces, or my interface card, as confirmed by the other devices' ability to connect and browse at normal speeds.
However; with my lappy running Ubuntu and Firefox, a LOT of websites hang/lag when attempting to browse websites. I have read on some of the forums about disabling ipv6 through the "about:config" option and that seemed to help a little, but not to where it should be. I have tried a lot of options, but it is still lagging.
