I have openSuse11.4 x64 and FireFox 6.0. Is there a way to update Java to latest version. Guides given on Java website doesn't work, tutorials found on Google also don't work. I updated to 6u22 but thats it. Firefox founds only 6u22.
View 9 RepliesOn Lucid after yesterday's upgrade to Firefox 3.6.14, Java isn't working properly.On a website that I often use, the navigation buttons are appearing erratically - either not at all (just white spaces) or some are present but others are not. They work perfectly with Chrome.I have sun-java6-jre, sun-java-bin and sun-java6-plugin installed, and the latter is enabled in Firefox.

I've already read some threads about similar problems but none of the solutions that worked for other people work for me. So I decided to open a new thread. Following instructions of other threads, I uninstalled all java packages and installed again just the three that you can see below, but nothing changed.

after the upgrade to firefox 3.5.9 yesterday, video from my internet camera doesn't appear. Firefox loads the web page from the camera, but the box in the web page containing the video stream doesn't show up.my system is opensuse 11.1, 64-bit. I temporarily downgraded to firefox 3.0.18 and the video worked as usual. By shutting off plugins, I found it was the IcedTea Java web browser plugin 1.6.2 that was driving the video. so I upgraded back to firefox 3.5.9, started looking for an upgraded version of the Java plugin, but the software manager shows that the latest is java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin (1.6.2_b16-0.1.1 x86_64) and that it is already installed.

I have the IceTea add-on installed, but still unable to run java scripts while in Mozilla Firefox 5.0. Prior to the update I was able to run java apps and scripts. I downloaded the lastest JRE 1.6.0_26 and installed it from the terminal emulator using an RPM package. Still unable to run java apps using The official US time (NIST & USNO) and Sun, Moon and Earth Applet as examples.

That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.
I have tried to install and enable java, follow the instructions of this link:[URL] when I try to enable de java, for firefox, I can't linked de java with the browser, because I can't find de folder "plugins" on the path --> /lib/usr/lib/firefox).

View 8 Replies View RelatedIf you are interested, Java SE 6 Update 24 is available. The Check Java Version link in my signature will tell you if you are up to date or not. The Update Java Version link in my signature will tell you how to obtain and install the latest version. The 32 bit version install directions are on the left side of that page and the 64 bit instructions are on the right side.
Just remember to remove the current version before installing the new one as it says in the instructions. The remove instructions are below the install instructions. Also, in Step 9 - "Now you'll want to tell the system, that there's a new Java version available." See the note below it that says if you get an error upon entering the command once, enter it a second time. I have to do that and sometimes forget. Just thought I would mention that. These instructions are already setup for version 6 update 24, but they can be modified for any update and they will work. I have been using these instructions for a couple of years and they work.
Do we need another repository with the sole purpose of upgrading firefox to a new security level?This should be added to the opensuse update repo and picked up automatically by the update applet...

When your chosen spelling dictionary is Polish and you enter text in English into box#1 and then into box#2, and then you decide to review your spelling, you can change the active dictionary to English. However, this will affect the spelling of box#2 only, which is good because box#1 might actually be in Polish. So you go back to box#1 and change the dictionary to English? Nope; the dictionary is English already so choosing English has no effect and the words are still marked as incorrect!
What you need:
A frame with two text areas, e.g. Bugzilla.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Set the spelling dictionary to Polish.
2. Enter "damaged " into box#1.
3. Enter "damaged " into box#2.
4. While in box#2, choose the English spelling dictionary.
5. Return to box#1.

New to Suse. Have been driving Zorin, where all updates can happen at once. Have been trying to update Firefox (3.5.10) to new ver and Yast doesn't seem to be aware of it. Do I need to compile? My Zorin package (Ubuntu variant) sees each Firefox and everything else update and installs or gives me option. What do I need to do in Suse to get up to ver 3.6.8, and why isn't Yast aware?

Some time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point

I havent used Linux in a long time. I dug up an old copy of Suse (version8.2), and installed it on an old 599MHZ PC. Ive been trying to update the various libraries to be able to get a updated version of Firefox installed. Is there any chance that this can work? I need to know if Im wasting my time and should just put winxp on this PC. Also, I cant get any repositories working. I assume the default ones I have on the Suse installation are bad and the ones for the later versions will not work.
