OpenSUSE Install :: Keyring Manager Gone On Strike?
Jan 10, 2010
It appears that my keyring manager has gone on strike. I did a "zupper up" today and ever since doing that, the computer has not asked me to enter my default keyring password when booting up. The only way for me to connect to my wireless is to enter the WPA security code every time and when loading Pidgin I have to enter all my passwords. This is very annoying!!!! I have deleted my default.keyring file, restarted and it is not asking me to enter a new password.

Recently I purchased a new laptop and installed openSUSE 11.3 x64 Gnome. I was running openSUSE 11.2 x86 Gnome on my previous laptop. Most things are working well, although still tweaking things here and there.
The biggest issue at the moment is starting the network. When I boot the system it loads into desktop (gnome) no problem, but then takes between 3 - 5 minutes to come up asking for Default Keyring Password before it will launch network manager. Everything else has loaded and it running fine except the network.
The first time I launched the system (after install) it worked perfectly, however soon as a set the password for the Default Key this started happening. The time delay before it launches does vary each time but always around 3 minute mark.

I just installed 11.2 and have this warning in messages:
gnomesu-pam-backend: gkr-pam: couldn't unlock 'login' keyring: 255
Also, there's no login screen and I can't remember how to configure for that.

I've tried Ubuntu, Arch, and most recently Fedora but the SUSE GNOME environment blows everything else away!
The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.
I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).

At boot time I get asked to input my password to open the keyring. I don't need this level of security and want to either pass the password in a script or disable the keyring without disallowing my wireless connection. How do I do that and where do I find out about this keyring thing?

I am sometimes getting the following msg, asking me for a password... enter password for default keyring to unlock, the application 'Account Manager' (/usr/libexec/mission-control-5) wants access to default keyring, but it is locked. I have never seen this before and I have no idea what the password would be (since I've never set a "keyring" password).

I had my motherboard fail and had to do a replacement. The motherboard I got has a feature (I don't think I can shut off) that lets you select what drive you want to boot off of. I have XP installed on the first drive and openSUSE 11.1 on the second drive. I am running openSUSE 11.2 with KDE 3.5 and I simply dropped my drives onto this new motherboard. I can boot up (Linux) just fine but am having other issues with my mouse. I am thinking of Updating to openSUSE 11.2 and the current KDE version.
Should I just update to 11.2 or do a new install. I have LOTS of data in my home directory I really don't want to lose and have a partition for data as well that is pretty full. I don't want to lose this stuff. What should I do about Grub with this BIOS that lets you pick which drive to boot off of? Put Grub in the MBR of the drive with openSUSE on it and nuke the MBR of the XP drive?

First of all, This is my first post in the forums, so - Hello all, nice to meet you. This is my first time with Ubuntu, and so, ran into a lot of problems. This problem is in installing counter strike. I know that there are a lot of guides and FAQ's online that give you lots of help on that, but I ran into an unique problem.
I installed the non-steam version of Counter Strike ( using wine ofcourse ). It created a shortcut in my desktop and I launch the counter strike game. I enter my cd key and then I select a profile, select a map, select the bots and then, it starts loading. After that, it stops half way and then it quits.

I downloaded Adobe Air, both the rpm and the .bin versions. First I tried the rpm, it went through the motions of installing but just disappeared. then I tied the .bin, got tot the installer, accepted the license, entered my root password, but it stopped installing with "an error occurred. Adobe AIR could not be installed. Install either Gnome Keyring or KDE KWallet before installing Adobe AIR". I opened Kwallet and tried again, but to no avail. I am running OS11.4 64 bit. What can I do to get this thing working?

After I install 11.2 clean from the ISO, I would like to update ONLY knetworkmanager, and not all of KDE. I would like to use zypper commands similar to the one below, which work for KDE. However, I would like the syntax for only knetwork manager and not all of KDE sample for KDE:
# please let me have the correct commands for
# ONLY updating Knetworkmanager
# These work fine, but I don't want to update all
# of KDE. I only want to update knetworkmanager
[Code]...

my friend is having major sound problems when she is trying to play counter strike 1.6 on her ubuntu (latest version). she can only play it trough wine emulator and wine itself is updated to latest version.
from what she told me and i seen - most of the times she doesn't have sound at all. can you maybe point me on what should we do about it? i googled some "solutions" like disabling oss and etc. but it doesn't make any difference (killall pulseaudio for example removes all of her sound like videos sound and etc.).

I can't connect to my "counter-strike Source server". I know it is running, as I run it thru SCREEN and no connections seems to reach it. I use a small modified script I found some where on this site and it is like this;I do believe the problem is in my use of ipatbles and UDp but haven't found any use of the command that has worked.

I try to install two window manager under openSUSE 11.4 x64. AmiWb and WindowLab. I compiled them and there were no errors, but they don't show up in the login menu. If i start them by switching ALT-F2 i can't connect to the xserver. As far as i can see, it is not in USR/X11 either. Have to check where it ended up in. But in my previous experience in installing a WM i did not have any problems.

I was trying to set up my Xfce desktop on a fresh install.
I personally dislike Xdm, which is given as the default login manager, and would prefer to use Slim instead.
It is possible to install it using the Package Search feature (it's listed under the Contrib repository), but I haven't been able to set it as the default login manager (I wasn't able to find such a setting in /etc/sysconfig).

I am trying to integrate two new machines into an old network running NFS and NIS. One machine has 11.4 and the other 11.3. On the 11.4 machine login, I select "other" and before entering my password I can select my desired window manager from the "sessions" list in the task bar. On the 11.3 machine I select "other", but nothing appears in the task bar. The "sessions" list briefly flashes up after I have already entered by password and hit enter. This machine always starts up in KDE even though I have specified GNOME as the default display manager. Also, on either machine after validating my login, I never appear as a user in the login list. I always have to select "other". Other network users in the same group or users local to the machine do not have either problem. I tried wiping my home directory, but it makes no difference. I'm guessing this has something to do with the NIS but there is no admin here anymore

I'm having a rather peculiar problem booting into openSUSE 11.2. After the installation (which goes fine), i get a black screen and my system freezes.
In detail, I can see the splash screen and booting details, but at the moment I am supposed to see a login manager, i just get a black screen. Sometimes it has a cursor indicator in the top left, sometimes it doesn't. Same thing happens in failsafe mode too.
This happens over and over, no matter which installation type I choose, 32bit or 64bit, KDE/Gnome/XFCE.
My problematic box is:
AMD Athlon 3200+ 64bit
2GB DDR
ATI Radeon x1950pro <-- which I believe might be causing all these issues.

When trying to open YaST Software Manager, it downloads/refreshes repository information, but then, just when the loading bar indicates that the manager is about to open, a warning window pops up which says: "There was an error in the repository initialization." The program continues to open, but only packages that have already been installed are visible.

Using 11.0 64bit OpenSuse. I was updating this workstation. Everything was working good. I rebooted from the last set of updates and now I am trying to access the Package Manager from yast, but it is not working now. It starts up, then it goes to an "Initializing", then a popup says that "Accessing the Package Manager Failed". It also notes that something else is using the package manager, then gives me choice to either continue or retry.

Previous installation (11.1) left boot manager intact and I had three options on menu. Windoze, OS/2 and Opensuse. They all worked and if I selected Opensuse I then got a Grub boot screen with normal options from which I could start opensuse as usual.
New installation of 11.3 I selected MBR option but think I must have left grub as the boot method. I now boot into the grub screen but if I select OS/2 there is only Windoze left on menu and no OS/2.
What should I use to put back the booting to how it was? Can I use opensuse program to do it or should I use OS/2 partition manager?

I tried Keyring menu, dell all keyrings and created a new call "default", but it stills asking me the password, that is different that the new.
