I downloaded Adobe Air, both the rpm and the .bin versions. First I tried the rpm, it went through the motions of installing but just disappeared. then I tied the .bin, got tot the installer, accepted the license, entered my root password, but it stopped installing with "an error occurred. Adobe AIR could not be installed. Install either Gnome Keyring or KDE KWallet before installing Adobe AIR". I opened Kwallet and tried again, but to no avail. I am running OS11.4 64 bit. What can I do to get this thing working?
In looking at the release notes, I saw the comment File locations changes:
* MySQL socket file and pid file were moved from /var/lib/mysql to more reasonable location /var/run/mysql by default.
* MySQL log files are in /var/log/mysql. Not sure what I was supposed to do with that information. So I ignored it. Now, I am finding some issues with it. The web server works, but any connection to the database fails with 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)The thought dawned on me that maybe all my databases were erased and none set up. Going in to the terminal, I could connect and list and query the databases. So even though I backed them up, they still are there!
phpMyAdmin gives the same error message.
However, when I go into MySQL Administrator, it works fine.
I forgot where I saw it, but the socket is still set to var/lib/mysql. I could not find any mysql install log and would say what was in my cnf.my, but it still doesn't exist just as it has not in the past. Not sure if I should allow the MySQL Administrator to create it since I always ignored the prompt in the past and it worked. (Just wishing to keep the defaults)
At first I thought the upgrade upgraded the MySQL, but it's still 5.1.39 as I believe before. I've un-installed mysql-server and re-installed it with no change.
Can anyone can tell me how to get the socket to /var/run/mysql or what else is wrong? I read one place where mysql is supposed to set it up.
It appears that my keyring manager has gone on strike. I did a "zupper up" today and ever since doing that, the computer has not asked me to enter my default keyring password when booting up. The only way for me to connect to my wireless is to enter the WPA security code every time and when loading Pidgin I have to enter all my passwords. This is very annoying!!!! I have deleted my default.keyring file, restarted and it is not asking me to enter a new password.
Tried to install Gnome after the minimal server (console based) install.I would like to install a graphical GUI now What to do? wich packages? tried zypper gnome-desktop (or something similar) but it wasn't enough.
how can i solve a small little problem: Every time i start opensuse 11.2 i get a window asking me to input the keyring password... this started to happen after i installed Pidgin. how can i stop the keyring from asking me the password everytime??? how can i even get to this "keyring"??
At boot time I get asked to input my password to open the keyring. I don't need this level of security and want to either pass the password in a script or disable the keyring without disallowing my wireless connection. How do I do that and where do I find out about this keyring thing?
I have never configured any keyrings. I set up Evolution, and it's working, but sometimes Gnome wants me to allow it to access the default keyring to get the email password. It takes 3 cancel-deny tries to finally dismiss this dialog box, after which Evolution is working fine. I see that this is not an Evolution thing. Other users report the same thing in VINO, and on wireless access. The GNOME forum seems to think there is a bug when accessing severs, and has a bug and milestone. Some other distros have the same problem.
One user says that they were able to Delete the default keyring (which must have had an unknown default password) and then create a New default keyring with thier own password. This seems to have solved that user's problem. However there were no instructions on how to do it. I think someone else was able to just stop the default keyring daemon. That would work too, although it's not as elegant. I'm now unable to find instructions.
NetworkManager stores its connection secrets in a keyring called "default". I am prompted to supply the keyring password every time I log in, regardless of whether I select the "automatically unlock this keyring when I log in" radio button.
i'm trying to install my updates through install/remove software in gnome opensuse, but when I click apply everything just disappears, can I install them some other way?
I am trying to create an usb install from an gnome-live cd. All I have done is not working:
dd fedora liveusb-creator fusbi linuxlive usb creator unetbootin pendrive
All I can get are errors saying cang find kernel or error like that. I have used linux and windows environment. The iso I am using is fine, I am sure because I have instaled it on two pcs. Iso gnome-live >> usb (bootable to install)
I've just installed 11.4 and then updated to gnome 3. I've noticed that Nautilus doesn't appear to mount my windows NTFS partition. I find this odd because both Ubuntu and Fedora detect and mount it just fine in Gnome 3 (I've been trying all 3 this week).
When i installed 11.4 i selected gnome as my desktop. Now i want to give KDE (suse´s default desktop) a shot. Witch packages do i have to install to have a FULL KDE enviroment as if i would have selected KDE when i installed suse? Not just the desktop, but kde apps, themes, etc. Or even better. Is there a "Meta package" that installs everything?
I installed KDE from a CD. Then decided I wanted to have Gnome has an option. I installed "gnome-desktop" via software manager (as per some other instructions on the forum) but I still have no option to choose Gnome when logging in.
What all do I choose to get the complete Gnome environment? Or is it better (& easier?) to reinstall with a DVD?
openSuSe 11.2/Pidgin 2.6.2/KDE4.3.1 Have seen various threads about this, but no real fix. Everytime I start Pidgin I get the annoying prompt to "Enter password for default keyring to unlock".
I have installed openSUSE 11.3 on a couple of computers here at work, one 64bit one 32. I always install choosing KDE as the desktop and installed Gnome once the OS install is complete. Now when I go into YAST2 and select the gnome and I get the following. pattern:gnome-11.3-22.1.i586 requires patterns-openSUSE-gnome, but ths requirement cannot be provided
[Code]...
And the 64 version say the say but with x86_64 instead of i586. I have been on 11.3 for a month now and the systems are fully updated. I do not want to uninstall KDE and I do not want to break patterns. Does anyone know how to fix this?
when i login to openSUSE a window named login keyring appears and it asks me root password. it happens everytime when i login. how to fix this problem?

I have a SONY PCG-R505TE laptop with an external CD/DVD, it connects via what I think is a PCMCIA card, the drive came with the laptop and functions fine. I currently have Windows XP running on this laptop, but it's very slow.I downloaded openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-i686.iso and sucessfully burned it to a CD.I have the laptop bios set to boot from CD, and it appears to be doing that no problem. When it boots I first see the welcome screen, then the openSUSE Installer, whether I select the Live (GNOME) option, or the Installation.. it loads the kernel, and then loads the KIWI boot systemit is on the third event, waiting for CD/DVD dvices to appear... that something seems to fail... I then see Failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drivethen a rebootexception and it reboots in 120 seconds.
is it possible to install suse with just xfce or do you need to install gnome as well, or kde. Once the new update hits i might just install the system new. Thats why kinda curious about this.
how to install the gnome desktop. I have attempted in the past to search for gnome within the software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 11.3 site without success.
Btw, I'm using opensuse 11.3 and am running KDE as my default desktop.
I am currently running open suse 11.4 and using kde and want to be able to use gnome also, what do I have to do to install it so I can choose which I want?
Google is littered with people wanting to know how to get gnome three on the open suse 11.4 distro. Lots of people are saying to use: Frederic Crozat: how ever if you go to his link for the distro youll find its 404 as in taken down. Now there is another way: openSUSE News but there is no one click installer. So how do you install gnome three on open suse 11.4?
I am running Open Suse 11.4 and when I installed it GNOME became the Desktop, how can I change it so that I can use KDE and see if I would rather use it instead of GNOME, and is it possible to choose what Desktop to use during the boot process?
I am trying to install OpenSUSE with the 4.7GB install iso that I burned, everything worked fine and I am now in the "Perform Installation" part. It seems to be stuck at that, it says "Preparing disks." and is at 0%. The mouse has the circle loading thing and its moving,I am unable to change the tabs from Slide SHow to Details and cant click . Should I abort and try again? Or does this normally take a long time. Been about 15 minutes.
