when i login to openSUSE a window named login keyring appears and it asks me root password. it happens everytime when i login. how to fix this problem?
View 9 RepliesI found much of the info is out of date. I installed Lucid - my /home was on a separate partition so I did not format it to keep the original settings and mail. When trying to send/receive mail, Evolution now asks for the old login password from the previous install to open the mail keyring. "The password you use to login no longer matches that of your login keyring" There is a box to enter the old PW.
SOLUTION:
-Go to Applications-Accessories-Passwords and Encryption Keys
-Right click on Passwords:login
-Select Change Password
-Type your old login password in the "Old Password" field
-Type your new password in both the Password: and Confirm: fields.
-Click OK
-REBOOT
Evolution will now use your new login password to access the keyring.
I'm a bit puzzled by new "keyring everywhere" feature, well the case: Now I'm using 11.3 brand new suse and just when I want to connect to INTERNET via my DSL connection, a keyring password window appears, well I fill in the keyring password and hit enter, then another window pops out with my DSL connection asking me to enter a password for my DSL connection (but I've already set it up it before) and ok, I enter my password hit enter, but DSL window pops out again! and nothing happens,
I do it several times like a puppet, then I delete my DSL connection and make it again, so everything works with passwords no(no keyring is being promted). SO what do I do wrong? How can I disable this keyring feature, I do not need it at all, why do I need to recreate my connection every single time?

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.
I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).
been using 11.2 with KDE on a Sony laptop since 11.2 was released always ran perfect suddenly I can't login, I get to the login screen type in password it begins to load my desktop, then fails and dumps me back to the login screen I can login as root, all my stuff is there (under /home/me) I tried changing my password, no luck I went to run level 3 and there I can login just fine seems to be something with my KDE profile

The Gnome3 interface sometimes lags very noticeably.
Packagekit constantly blocks my zypper use, and it won't shut down. Not even after I log out and log in again. I tried just removing everything related to packagekit, but that just breaks everything.
Searching for repositories is a pain and there are too many different ones and I never know which one is the latest and how these will be upgraded in the future. Zypper itself is awesome, everything else about package and repo management is not.
I can't uninstall applications properly. I remove them via zypper, and when I do a distro update they get added back in. (gnome games for example)
Whenever I install or search for anything in zypper, I get hundreds of these errors: GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. I have made a live usb from a Debian testing live image (.img) using the dd command. It all worked well and it booted flawlessly. But then when it booted into the Debian screen it asked for my user name and password. I never set any user name and password so of course I couldn't log in.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy daughter from New Zealand gave me her Acer Aspire 4315 Laptop/Notebook Linux System in December 2009 so that I could use it in bed on days that I was unable to get out to use my main computer as I am a very ill man. I was able to log into the unit as she just said to me to use her name and password to. I have been able to use the unit on the internet at home and my other daughters home through a home wireless system. I clicked on the Upgrade Icon which it did, I think it went from a 7. something to 8.something All the way through the set up it asked me questions and I just clicked yes thinking that was what I had to do. My problem now is, that when I turn the unit on it asks me for a username and password. I put the details my daughter gave me but it tells me invalid user and password. All I do know is that a friend of my daughter installed the Ubuntu Program onto the Laptop/Notebook. Can anyone tell me how or what I have to do now to be able to use the unit again as I am getting very frustrated with the whole thing. I am not used to using Ubuntu and am totally lost with it as I have always been a Microsoft user.

I have never changed either password, so there is no "old" password to resort to.How do I fix this? I am not opposed to deleting whatever data is encrypted by this keyring. Also, how might this have happened? This could be a bug; are there any relevant log files or such?

The password you use to log in to your computer no longer matches that of your login keyring.
I haven't change my login password for a long time. It is still the same and it works.
However, when I put my current password below the keyring's message it says it is incorrect. When I try to change the password in in Accessories > Passwords and Encryption Keys it writes that the old password (my current one) is not correct.
What happens? Which password should I type there? I do not remember I set somewhere any other password than my current login one.
I'm asking this in the right place. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and recently started getting a pop-up similar to the following at every boot up: Login keyring failed Your login keyring did not succeed. Enter login keyring here: That's not [exactly] what it says, but very similar. I should probably add that I have not set up any different 'user profiles' or whatever they're called, but am the only one using this PC...at least, at the present time. Again, this only started a couple of weeks ago and I don't know what I did to start it nor what to do to stop it. I guess it's not extremely painful to have to type my password in every time, but a PITA nevertheless.

The only problem is that I'm immediately asked for the login keyring password (which happens to be the same exact password I just entered to log into the machine). This happens every time I boot the machine.
Is there any way to make it stop asking me for this login keyring password? I just don't get why I have to enter the same password twice.

I'm about to turn off the prompt for a keyring password at logon following these instructions. But I wonder whether I'm going to be losing anything in the way of security. To eliminate the prompt for the keyring password, am I going to miss out on anything? In other words, just what does the keyring do? If it matters, I don't use Evolution e-mail (I just use old-fashioned web mail). To my knowledge the only passwords stored on my machine are that for my wireless network and whatever website passwords my browser stores.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up my password is requested three separate times by the keyring. Sometimes if I have left my computer to boot up it will actually be requested four times. I get the impression it relates to start up programs, for example if I leave it so that it requests the password a fourth time, at the same time the wifi connection settings pop up requesting the wifi password. I remember having a similar problem before and I think I was able to set a program as always having access to the keyring once logged in, but I can't remember or find how to do this. The programs that are maximized on startup are; transmission, liferea. Docky and gnome-do are also arranged to load on startup.

However, there is a small annoyance I'd like to fix: every time I log in, I get a prompt saying that an application (the wireless network manager) is requesting the password for such-and-such keyring. I have to enter the password before I can connect to my network. Is there a way to get around this somehow so that I don't have to enter the keyring password for this keyring (the "default" keyring) every time I log in?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't log into my normal user account anymore, though I can log in with root without any problem. When I enter my normal user name and password, the screen blinks, a black page appears and after a couple of seconds I get the login screen again. I deleted /tmp files but no changes. I tried to login using command mode. So I hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 and log into root in command mode, then ran init3, then switched user to my normal user and ran startx. It worked and I logged into my normal account, but I can not do this process every time. So, what is the problem? How can I solve this problem? I used to work with my normal user flawlessly. I installed a bunch of software and also copied some folders to my home directory, but I don't know whether these activities caused the problem or not. I'm using KDE4 under openSUSE 11.2.
