I am sometimes getting the following msg, asking me for a password... enter password for default keyring to unlock, the application 'Account Manager' (/usr/libexec/mission-control-5) wants access to default keyring, but it is locked. I have never seen this before and I have no idea what the password would be (since I've never set a "keyring" password).

I've got an error message saying "An application wants access to the keyring 'default' but it is locked" when I log in as a guest. I can't remember the password that I used. Is there any way to reset this password or if not, how do I remove my guest account and set a new one up?

ubuntu-one is trying to access the keyring @ boot but it is locked. Under Password:default (in accessories-passwords and encryption) there is: UbuntuONE token for https://ubuntuone.com (key id 1) Which I assume it needs As well as 2 others Desktop Coach and one for gmail pop It is annoying I have to give it the keyring password @ boot. I also have Passwords: Login seperate from default This is annoying having to enter the keyring password @ boot time.

Recently I purchased a new laptop and installed openSUSE 11.3 x64 Gnome. I was running openSUSE 11.2 x86 Gnome on my previous laptop. Most things are working well, although still tweaking things here and there.
The biggest issue at the moment is starting the network. When I boot the system it loads into desktop (gnome) no problem, but then takes between 3 - 5 minutes to come up asking for Default Keyring Password before it will launch network manager. Everything else has loaded and it running fine except the network.
The first time I launched the system (after install) it worked perfectly, however soon as a set the password for the Default Key this started happening. The time delay before it launches does vary each time but always around 3 minute mark.
I have never configured any keyrings. I set up Evolution, and it's working, but sometimes Gnome wants me to allow it to access the default keyring to get the email password. It takes 3 cancel-deny tries to finally dismiss this dialog box, after which Evolution is working fine. I see that this is not an Evolution thing. Other users report the same thing in VINO, and on wireless access. The GNOME forum seems to think there is a bug when accessing severs, and has a bug and milestone. Some other distros have the same problem.
One user says that they were able to Delete the default keyring (which must have had an unknown default password) and then create a New default keyring with thier own password. This seems to have solved that user's problem. However there were no instructions on how to do it. I think someone else was able to just stop the default keyring daemon. That would work too, although it's not as elegant. I'm now unable to find instructions.
My computer is recently asking for my 'default keyring password'to get access to the internet. It never used to do this as I am single user and never created a keyring password as far as I know. I dont even use a login password.Luckily i tried my administrator password and that unlocks my keyring but I would like to get it back to no password or auto unlock mode.

Longer story:
Somehow I got my keyring and login passwords out of sync. I went to change my login password using passwd on the terminal. I meant to change it to (let's say) "abcdef" but typed "abcdfe" twice. Realizing my mistake I tried to used passwd a second time to change it to "abcdef", but passwd complained that the new password was too similar to the old. So I used "su -c 'passwd myusername'" - I was able to change my login password but I guess this did not update my keyring password. I've tried changing my password using passwd as myself (not root) to something completelydifferent, but my keyring password remains the first password (e.g. "abcdfe").
I have installed Fedora11 onto my Dell laptop; as nice as it is whenever I log in I am prompted to "enter password for default keyring to unlock". Now, I don't recall ever setting one up, each password I try (e.g. the user or root) fails and gives me the prompt again. After a few clicks of "deny" it does go away but I want to know what it is and if I can stop it from prompting me).

My dad has an HP about 3 years old. I had to disable apic/acpi and now every time I install Ubuntu Keyring messes up. I can't get it to sync with the account. I've tried deleting the gnome folders in Home and the gconf. That doesn't work, but every time I sign in, I'm required to enter my sign in password and keyring's password.

I can login normally, but when I attempt to unlock the screensaver using my windows credentials I am told that my account is "locked out, contact admin..."
A quick look at AD shows that my account is indeed being locked out, presumably when the 11.2 locks the screen.
what's causing this and how I can correct it?
I am using OpenSuse 11.2 and Samba/Kerberos to authenticate to a Active Directory Domain Server. It works fine if the enter the correct password, but if I enter an incorrect password samba keeps trying to used the same credentials to authenticate, and after five attempts AD locks out the account. I verified this with wireshark. I can't find any configuration options to limit attempts to one and then ask the client to renter the password.

I didn't know where else to place this.It's really preventing me from doing some things, such as setting up the Empathy IM program for chatting and whatnot, and this default keyring really haulting any progress I can make on that front. It also pops up when I'm just booting up the laptop. My brother set the password and then forgot, so he tried all of these passwords and it would never work. It always pops back up several moments later and reiterates its question. It goes away when I click on 'Deny', but now I can't follow that same route when trying to set Empathy IM Client up. I would like to either do away with this password requirement, or just change it to something I can easily remember

I set up my user account, gave it a password, and everything was fine until I tried to connect to my wireless. I typed in the security key for my wireless, and it asked for a password to unlock the default keyring. The problem is, I never set a password for the "default" keyring. I never changed my user password. I didn't auto-login, I entered my password. This was the first boot up of the machine after installing 10.04.1. I can't use Empathy, because the keyring cannot be unlocked. If I "cancel" it gives me an error saying the account details are wrong, but I log into my facebook, aim, and msn every day, so I know the passwords are correct.
I have read about other issues with the keyring and with the auto-login bug that is associated with it. I have also read up on the bug that occurs with that as well. I couldn't find anything about my specific situation, so I hope this isn't a re-post of an issue that has already dealt with, but I did look it up. If it helps, the laptop I am running is a HP Pavilion dv7-3065dx, and I have Ubuntu Desktop 10.04.1 x86 installed. Clean install and the only thing I have done was log in, connect to network, and try to set up Empathy. Both Empathy, and connecting to network, gave me the issues with the keyring. It appears that there is already a password for the default keyring, it is not blank, and my user login password does not work for it. I'm at a loss...

Automatically unlock this keyring whenever I'm logged in it keeps asking it to me at each startup and the connection does not establish if I don't do it. I don't see anything special in the settings for "Passwords and Encryption keys"
Is there a way to remove this?
Did a fresh install of 64-bit Natty on day 1, and have an irksome issue when logging in. Once I'm logged in, Keyring prompts me to type the default keyring password. This happens every time I log in.
The problem is, the option to unlock the keyring automatically at login is dimmed, and only the other 3 options are selectable.
I opened the "Passwords and Encryption Keys" applet and saw 2 entries under "passwords", both named "Network secret for Auto [my network name]/802-11-wireless-security/psk". I see no option here to allow either of these to automatically unlock at login.

I seem to have added all my passwords to the default keyring while using a live session. Now when I log in, I am then asked to unlock my default keyring. I thought if you logged in with a password this wasn't necessary. When I look at my passwords and encryption keys, all my passwords appear in the default folder, and nothing is in my login folder. Is there a way to migrate these passwords. Or is there a way to automatically unlock my default keyring?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with my wireless. I installed Ubuntu Karmic at the beginning of February and have had it connected via an Ethernet cable and everything worked. I am now trying to access the internet using the laptop's wireless the "Wireless Network Authentication Required" window appears where I add my password for the network, then another window appears called "Unlock Keyring" where it says that the network manager applet requires the default keyring.
I put in my Ubuntu password (login and sudo one) and nothing happens, the window just appears again.
Is my default keyring different from my password, and how do I find out what it is/change it
