openSuSe 11.2/Pidgin 2.6.2/KDE4.3.1 Have seen various threads about this, but no real fix. Everytime I start Pidgin I get the annoying prompt to "Enter password for default keyring to unlock".
View 9 RepliesI have installed Fedora11 onto my Dell laptop; as nice as it is whenever I log in I am prompted to "enter password for default keyring to unlock". Now, I don't recall ever setting one up, each password I try (e.g. the user or root) fails and gives me the prompt again. After a few clicks of "deny" it does go away but I want to know what it is and if I can stop it from prompting me).

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.
I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).
I am new to linux and ubuntu. I am using ubuntu Hardy Heron release 8.04 I have not used it in a long time and then when I did fire up the laptop. I get a message asking me to enter a password for keyring. Then I can Deny or OK it. How can I disable that and keep it from popping up. Also, it there a way to figure out/change the administrator password if you don't remember it as well?
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04LTS. I'm trying to configure my chat accounts. But after entering username and password, it is asking "Enter password to unlock your login keyring". I have entered my login password. But it is saying that "The password you use to log in to your computer no longer matches that of your login keyring."
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just re-sized my windows partition on my laptop and installed 10.04.1. Brand new clean install. I set up my user account, gave it a password, and everything was fine until I tried to connect to my wireless. I typed in the security key for my wireless, and it asked for a password to unlock the default keyring. The problem is, I never set a password for the "default" keyring. I never changed my user password. I didn't auto-login, I entered my password. This was the first boot up of the machine after installing 10.04.1. I can't use Empathy, because the keyring cannot be unlocked. If I "cancel" it gives me an error saying the account details are wrong, but I log into my facebook, aim, and msn every day, so I know the passwords are correct.
I have read about other issues with the keyring and with the auto-login bug that is associated with it. I have also read up on the bug that occurs with that as well. I couldn't find anything about my specific situation, so I hope this isn't a re-post of an issue that has already dealt with, but I did look it up. If it helps, the laptop I am running is a HP Pavilion dv7-3065dx, and I have Ubuntu Desktop 10.04.1 x86 installed. Clean install and the only thing I have done was log in, connect to network, and try to set up Empathy. Both Empathy, and connecting to network, gave me the issues with the keyring. It appears that there is already a password for the default keyring, it is not blank, and my user login password does not work for it. I'm at a loss...
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and I would like to know a way to know what applications are asking you to enter password for default keyring to unlock. In the past that dialog used to appear at startup once but now appears twice and I would like to know which applications are asking me for the password. Is there any log where I can see it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe only problem I am experiencing is that when I boot Ubuntu quickly finds my wireless network but does not automatically connect to it. A window then comes up asking me to "enter password for Keyring default". After having then entered this password the connection does take place and remain stable. So really no big deal but why do I need to do this every time I boot up. This is new to me. Never had anything like this on previous versions.

I didn't know where else to place this.It's really preventing me from doing some things, such as setting up the Empathy IM program for chatting and whatnot, and this default keyring really haulting any progress I can make on that front. It also pops up when I'm just booting up the laptop. My brother set the password and then forgot, so he tried all of these passwords and it would never work. It always pops back up several moments later and reiterates its question. It goes away when I click on 'Deny', but now I can't follow that same route when trying to set Empathy IM Client up. I would like to either do away with this password requirement, or just change it to something I can easily remember

Automatically unlock this keyring whenever I'm logged in it keeps asking it to me at each startup and the connection does not establish if I don't do it. I don't see anything special in the settings for "Passwords and Encryption keys"
Is there a way to remove this?
I seem to have added all my passwords to the default keyring while using a live session. Now when I log in, I am then asked to unlock my default keyring. I thought if you logged in with a password this wasn't necessary. When I look at my passwords and encryption keys, all my passwords appear in the default folder, and nothing is in my login folder. Is there a way to migrate these passwords. Or is there a way to automatically unlock my default keyring?

I have never changed either password, so there is no "old" password to resort to.How do I fix this? I am not opposed to deleting whatever data is encrypted by this keyring. Also, how might this have happened? This could be a bug; are there any relevant log files or such?

I know some people like the remember password "feature", but I prefer just a plain unadulterated ssh session in a terminal. Does anyone know how to stop this message?

After installing ubuntu 10.10 on pc i had it running fine for roughly 2 weeks. i have selected automatic login so i do not need to mess about logging in etc, but recently my pc asks for my password to unlock keyring once it shows my desktop.

The password mask (*******) symbol font size is smaller than any other password prompt (for instance gksudo). Is it only me ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedA while ago, I removed the Ubuntu One entry from my Startup Applications because it was annoying having to activate the keyring every time I booted up/logged on. Now, I am prompted for a password once I start Firefox (mind that it's only the first time I run Firefox after boot/login). I'm assuming it's Ubuntu One because of the sequence of events, but feel free to correct me if you think otherwise. How can I stop this?

My Ubuntu desktop crashed last night after I accidentally bumped into the CPU box. Right after I bumped into it, it restarted automatically ... then it ran disk integrity check, also automatically ...
The issue is that I can NOT log into it. There is no way that I could enter my password. Though I could telnet into it using my laptop (I have set up telnetd into this desktop before).
I am trying to search for similar issues in this forum but I could not find one that is really like this.I have all 5 years of work in the hard drive.

I'm about to turn off the prompt for a keyring password at logon following these instructions. But I wonder whether I'm going to be losing anything in the way of security. To eliminate the prompt for the keyring password, am I going to miss out on anything? In other words, just what does the keyring do? If it matters, I don't use Evolution e-mail (I just use old-fashioned web mail). To my knowledge the only passwords stored on my machine are that for my wireless network and whatever website passwords my browser stores.

I even manually set 'password at login' but it doesn't even ask me for that?

i found something about Avahi potentially causing a conflict with network configuration - so i typed the following command and am now online at least:
sudo stop avahi-daemon
sudo sed -e '/^start/,+1s/^/#/' /etc/init/avahi-daemon.conf
I'm still fairly new to Suse(and Linux) I have an account on my system that is locked when i run passwd -S accountname i get 'accountname lk' as the response. However when i try to unlock it using passwd -u accountname i get 'Cannot unlock the password for accountname!'.Any ideas on why i can't unlock the account?

Isn't that supposed to be insecure? I understand for this the grub password can be applied but even after adding "single" it should ask for root password..or it should not..??
