I have a Dell Dimension 690 with a LSI raid controller. I just added two 2Tb drives to the 2 160Gb drives that I currently have. The 160Gb drives used to be set up in a redundant raid configuration and are now set up as stand alone drives. The 2Tb drives are redundant raid. I installed Zentyal server software (formally eBox). It seems that the system is starting up OK but on booting I am getting the following errors:

I do not want to put data files back on the server if it has some errors that will bite me later.

OpenSUSE Network :: No Wlan With FRITZ WLAN USB Stick N 2.4 On 11.2

Nov 27, 2009

There is no wlan0 interface when trying to run FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick N 2.4 on OpenSuSE 11.2, though it works fine on Fedora 11 and Mandriva Spring 2009.1. All 64bit. Contrary to Fedora and Mandriva, there is no need to compile the compat-wireless module ar9170usb for OpenSuSE 11.2 because the kernel is very recent and includes this driver. Kernel: 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop The /var/log/messages gives this after I put the stick in the PC. At first it is seen as a mass storage device:

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 With Open WLAN Does Not Work

Jul 17, 2010

I installed openSUSE 11.3 on my notebook (lenovo 510i, Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000).When I connect to my home wlan with WPA2 there is no problem, but when I try to connect to an open WLAN without encryption, the essid is not set (seen with iwconfig wlan0). If I set it after rcnetwork start wlan0 with iwconfig wlan0 essid the_open_sid, it associates and dhcp is working fine.

Here are the messages that are produced during rcnetwork start wlan0:

Code:

Is there a log with the wireless card setup commands that are used?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Make, Ndiswrapper And Therefore Wlan Wont Install?

Feb 9, 2010

since if read all the forums threads, faqs an tutorials i could find, i hope to find some help here.
i just installed openSuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 a fews days ago to see what's it all about. i don't have any experience in writing code or anything besides the few little commands i've learnd through my research. the system is running on an old laptop (amd64 3000+) with enough RAM and HD. now i since my wlan-card is detected but won't work due to missing driver i tried this ndiswrapper-method. i used the ndis-version that was included in the openSuse-dvd with no success, then i de-installed this version to try manually. i downloaded version 1.55 from the ndiswrapper-website, logged into the console as superadmin and followed the install-intructions and for intances this tutorial. now i'm even stuck with the "make"-command as the console tells me "If 'make' is not a typo. in earlier attempts while trying to install the wlan-driver through the dvd-given ndiswrapper version i often got the error "makefile:23: kernel tree not found..."
as the welcome-note for this forum demands here's some output from the console linux-g6rk:/home/mat/ndis # lspci -nn

OpenSUSE Install :: Vista / Opensuse Dual-booting With GRUB

I tried to add it by editing menu.As far as I can see (and I don't have much experience with these things) the Vista OS is there, on sda5, but doesn't boot correctly because the winload.exe is in the wrong directory. Why the sdax numbers are all rearranged is a mystery too, but I have reinstalled vista several times so that could be why.I don't have a vista recovery cd (wasn't given one), is there any way to fix this within opensuse (which works fine)?

Ubuntu :: Terminal Is Giving Errors Left And Right - Cause Booting From CD?

Thing is, Terminal is giving me the finger anytime it can. I've yet to successfully do something on it. Simple things like "dpkg" or "cd any directory at all" are being a pain, and I can't put anything in /user/.Is this cause I'm booting it using a "demo CD", or does my computer just hate Ubuntu and I should give up now?

OpenSUSE Install :: Booting After 11.3 Install - Hangs At A Blank Screen ?

Jun 8, 2011

I recently tried to upgrade my openSuSe 11.1 system using the instructions at:

SDB:System upgrade - openSUSE

I successfully got the system to 11.2, but the upgrade from 11.2->11.3 went awry. The installation froze during the update, and I had to start it over. The first issue I had to deal with was the fact that rpm had been upgraded and zypper hadn't, so zypper wouldn't function because older rpm files that it would search for had been deleted. After rolling back rpm to a previous version, I managed to complete the upgrade to 11.3 and everything looked good. However, when I rebooted the system, it hangs at a blank screen. More precisely, the system seems to get through all of the BIOS stuff and then hang while loading the OS (I assume). Although I've worked on Windows boxes for a long time, I'm a complete novice at OS installations/upgrades for Linux systems, so I'm not even quite sure where to begin to troubleshoot this. Ideally, I'd like to be able to fix the installation on the system to save the data on the hard drives, but I realize this might not be possible. My first thought was to use a recovery tool that I'd seen on some Linux installation CDs, but I see that for openSuSe 11.3 and on that utility has been dropped. I can, however, use the disk to get to the "Rescue" command prompt, so maybe there's something I can do from there?

So I changed that around and it finally installed. I then changed it back to the way it was and now of course grub works for SUSE but not M$. I get error #13. My Windows drive also does not show up in sysinfo:/. I went to terminal and ran fdisk -l and

Code:

OpenSUSE Install :: Live Usb Stick Doesn't Work - I/O Errors

Apr 21, 2011

I've been trying to figure out how to run/install openSUSE from a usb stick for several days. I downloaded the 11.4 .iso from distrowatch & used the following command in Linux Mint to put it on the usb stick.

Code:
sudo dd if=openSUSE-11.4-KDE-LiveCD-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdc

It gets to the loading screen and get stuck. It has a small bar going across, that never finishes. I've hit escape to try and get some info, but don't know what I'm looking for and it's too much to write down. I did notice there were several I/O errors. I did check the usb for defects and it returned ok, and the md5sum was correct.

I've also tried safe settings which takes me to a blueish/black screen and stays there. No ACPI starts to load and then drops to a shell.

how to get this accomplished? I've installed many Linux OS's and I've never had this much trouble.

ps. I"ve read the "please read" pre installation page on here, and things just don't make a whole lot of sense to me.

the problem is that bios a cap of 130gb for each drive or in this case partition. it's 320gb WD blue Scorpio. the short i want to dual boot 98se and ubuntu 9.04 with 2 fat32 partitions for storage 110 +100 + 80 = 320 also some visuals.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 64 Bit Very Slow After Booting?

Jun 16, 2010

We have 2 machines (quad core intel i5) running suse 11.2. They were clean installs and both suffer from this problem on around 50% of boot-ups. Other times, the system boots quickly and is fine.

Basically, one of the CPU's gets hammered to 100% (according to KDE system monitor) for around 10 minutes after boot up. Although the other three CPU's seem mostly idle, the system is very slow, to the point of being unusable until suddenly the system recovers and runs normally.

I've looked at 'top' and the KDE system monitor and both show no process taking more than a few % of the CPU. So it is a mystery as to what is taking up so much CPU and why it does it some days and not others !

One other thing, if you try to run virtualbox during this time, it (eventually) says that the kernel drives are not loaded - so possibly the kernel is stuck loading drivers. Infact, from dmesg, I can see that the system is still booting but other than the extended time stamps, the only obvious difference between a good boot and a bad one seems to be the line :

Code:
[ 141.794727] hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj. which is there after a slow boot. The sound works ok (as does everything else).
