OpenSUSE Wireless :: Make, Ndiswrapper And Therefore Wlan Wont Install?
Feb 9, 2010
since if read all the forums threads, faqs an tutorials i could find, i hope to find some help here.
i just installed openSuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 a fews days ago to see what's it all about. i don't have any experience in writing code or anything besides the few little commands i've learnd through my research. the system is running on an old laptop (amd64 3000+) with enough RAM and HD. now i since my wlan-card is detected but won't work due to missing driver i tried this ndiswrapper-method. i used the ndis-version that was included in the openSuse-dvd with no success, then i de-installed this version to try manually. i downloaded version 1.55 from the ndiswrapper-website, logged into the console as superadmin and followed the install-intructions and for intances this tutorial. now i'm even stuck with the "make"-command as the console tells me "If 'make' is not a typo. in earlier attempts while trying to install the wlan-driver through the dvd-given ndiswrapper version i often got the error "makefile:23: kernel tree not found..."
as the welcome-note for this forum demands here's some output from the console linux-g6rk:/home/mat/ndis # lspci -nn
02:09.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Linksys, A Division of Cisco Systems [AirConn] INPROCOMM IPN 2220 Wireless LAN Adapter (rev 01) [17fe:2220]dmesg|less [0.331220] aer 0000:00:02.0:pcie02: AER service couldn't init device: no _OSC support (i guess that's the line telling me that my wlan-card has no firmware as i found nothing else for that matter) i know there many threads about this topic but i've spend the last two days looking for answers and the stuff i found either didn't work or was explained so weird that i could make anything out of it.
According to a help page (Wireless Network Card Installation - openSUSE) I need to use ndiswrapper to install the windows driver for my wireless. However it appears the command 'ndiswrapper' was not installed with the operating system. How can I obtain the package for ndiswrapper and install it? Not being connected to the wifi makes this step tricky
I recently upgraded to OpenSUSE 11.4 GNOME on my ancient Compaq Armada E500 (Pentium II processor w/512MB of RAM) and now I'm trying to install my wireless driver with ndiswrapper. I've done this a couple of times before, but I'm having trouble getting ndiswrapper to find my driver. The driver is located in a folder on my desktop, but when I type the command 'ndiswrapper -i home/edwin/Desktop/WPC54G_40826/LSTINDS.INF' I get a message that there is no such file or directory at ndiswrapper's location, which is usr/sbin/ndiswrapper. So how do I get ndiswrapper either to look in the directory where the file is located or get a copy of LSTINDS.INF into the usr/sbin/ directory, which must be accessed as root?
My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:
[Code]...
I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. The results of the sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command produce the following:
root's password: lo Interface doesn't support scanning. eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
I have a Realtek RTL8187SE wireless card that out of the box will only connect to Open Wireless Networks. I need to know how (and if) I can install NDISwrapper in OpenSuse 11.4 (KDE), anytime I have ever used a KDE distro, it seemed NDISwrapper didn't work I want to give OpenSuse a shot, but this is one of the things holding me back. I'm am currently posting from the LiveCD and it's very nice! I will be able to do a full install!
is there anybody who could help me trace the error occurring during compilation/linking of ndiswrapper? The link below leads you to the outputopenSUSE Forums - View Single Post - Fritz WLAN Stik on SUSE 11.2 does not work
I have to use ndiswrapper to get my wireless card to work (Cheap D-link usb wireless). I have never had a problem in ubuntu releases with getting it up and going, but in Fedora and now Opensuse I am struggling. I have everything setup with no errors. Ndiswrapper lists my drivers as installed and my hardware present. lsusb also has it listed. but when I modprobe ndiswrapper, I am getting no errors, but I am also not getting wlan0 to show when using iwconfig. I also noticed when modprobed the wireless card's light isn't coming on like ubuntu.
I have just installed openSuse 11.4 and have been trying to get my Edimax EW-7711In wireless card to work. I have downloaded and installed NDISWRAPPER but when I type ndiswrapper -i /path/to/rt2860.inf I get a message saying that this is the incorrect driver. However this driver drives the card for both Fedora 14 and Ubuntu 10.10, both using ndiswrapper, so what may be the problem with openSuse 11.4?
While it worked out of the box in 11.3, openSUSE 11.4 does not recognize my TP-Link TL-WN821N any more.
Googling a bit, apparently the old ar9170 driver is deprecated and supposedly a new driver carl9170 is integrated in the kernel now, but since it is not working this cannot be quite right.
Unfortunately, I do not understand much of the instructions given at the above two URLs: Should I try to install the old ar9170 driver? If so, I found older, pre-11.4 posts here that seem to indicate that is not so simple as just copying a firmware file somewhere, so how can I install it in openSUSE 11.4? Or should I rather try getting the new carl9170 to work? If so, how can I do this if it is already supposed to be part of the kernel?
The 11.3 Net-Install (from CD) recognised that USB-WLAN-Stick all by itself, installing 11.3 just fine through the air. With 11.4 it didn't work. So I borrowed a WLAN bridge for a couple of days and installed 11.4 now (32bit plain install plus Packman), but even after the install, plugging in that Stick does not do anything.
on kde4 with knetworkmanager I cannot get past the wep security key on my home router. Every other wlan works, ethernet works, settings are definitely correct because it works with windows, other computers. And on the same computer even with gnome networkmanager! Also it used to work fine earlier. Behavior the same with different users including root, regardless of using kwallet or not. Networkamanager tries to connect and after one or two minutes throws the setting window back at me. I uninstalled and re-installed and deleted all related files I could think of. I even tried a complete fresh installation of opensuse only keeping the /home partition, so the problem must be lying there I guess. But then why all users?
PS opensuse 11.2 kde networkmanager 0.9.svn1043876-1.1.1
after I upgraded from opensuse 11.0 to 11.3 the wlan doesn't work anymore. following the rules, how to post the trouble. I also updated the correct FW. What's wrong? packet missing?
I installed OpenSUSE 11.3 with disabled WLAN (otherwise the installation process didn't start). Now the system boots only in Safe Mode with enabled WLAN card (when the WLAN card is disabled it also boots in normal mode though). But even if I try to configure the WLAN card in Safe Mode, the system doesn't boot next time (in Safe Mode) until I add "brokenmodules=ssb" parameter. As I understand after reading this forum I should install a firmware/driver, but there is no install_bcm43xx_firmware script in /usr/sbin directory.
Linux is what i'd like to learn, so Howdy to all and i hope to speak to you all regularly in short, I started with Ubuntu Linux about 6 months ago, Didn't like it, i researched various distro's and came across, PC Linux OS, it was really cool, But i couldn't get it to connect Wirelessly, so i tried something else... the bottom line is i finally settled on SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11, i seem to like it a lot.Ok.. now that introductions are out of the way
Background info: I've installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 on my Sony Vaio Laptop (VGN-NW15G) with no major issues, after a bit of mucking around, i got the LAN to Connect to the internet, after some more mucking around, i figured out how to get the WLAN to connect to the internet.MY Goal: To be able to Wirelessly Network my Laptop with My PC.so that i can access the files on the PC, From my laptop, and Vice Versa, but the important thing is to first be able to access the PC files from the Laptop.
NOTE: My PC has 4 Hard Drives (1 for the O/s, 3 Backups) they are all configured and Shared correctly for Networking and Wireless networking, and all the permissions are set correctly.Hardware and Software Environments:My Laptop : Sony Vaio VGN-NW15GOperating System : SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11Wireless Capable, and has no issues Wireless Networking when running of a Hard Drive Loaded with Win 7 Ultimate 32bit, Therefore all Hardware is Compatible
My PC (Custom Built) Operating System : Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R Rev1.0
After been convinced by an exchange student from Nashville I am hosting here in Germany I went into openSuse 11.2. I installed and got openSuse 11.2 to work. I must admit, that I was very impressed. It is more than 10 years that I tried a UNIX system and Linux was quite a cryptic thing. First some additional drivers had to be installed to get MP3 to play. However Internet access was possible with cable but the system failed in recognizing the WLAN.
Here is my system: HP Compaq nc4000 OpenSuse 11.2 (i586) KDE 4.3.1 "release 6" Wireless Network Atheros AR5212
I have looked through some posts but must admit, that I did not understand much of that. I Am willing to learn, however I do not see myself compiling some drivers. If you could tell me which URL could be used for dloading or installing via Yest, If more sophisticated solutions, than I will have to ask my student to do it for me, but he should learn German and learn more about German lifestile in German Bars.
Under OpenSuse 11.2 i cannot connect to my wireless network. Sometimes computer doesn't see network, sometimes computer cannot connect to it. Encryption: WPA & WPA2 Personal Kernel driver: ath5k Also I am embarrassed that in lspci and yast written various models of my wifi adapter.
I have installed opensuse 11.2 on a second partition, with the ultimate aim of leaving windows altogether. Unfortunately, I seem to be having terrible trouble (as do many others) getting my wireless internet connection working. I have viewed lots of posts in these forums and done everything I can think of, but since I am a linux novice, am unable to identify the problem. The card is working, since it can identify local SSIDs, it has been set up (to the best of my knowledge) correctly in YAST, but nothing seems to work. I'll include some information I have recorded from my system.. I typed the commands below with the accompanying output listed:
I just installed version 11.4 on my system of a toshiba satellite l505d-es5025 64bit.My wlan will not show up at all.I installed ndiswrapper, and all of the wlan from yast.
I'm finding a hard time getting my wireless card to work, my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525 and this is all the info: 0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) 0b:00.0 0280: 14e4:4315 (rev 01) [ 8.375610] b43-phy0: Broadcom 4312 WLAN found (core revision 15) [ 8.390374] b43-phy0 ERROR: FOUND UNSUPPORTED PHY (Analog 6, Type 5, Revision 1) [ 8.390436] b43: probe of ssb0:0 failed with error -95
I just want to report that I managed to get WLAN running on my Dell Mini 10 (Inspiron 1012) with OpenSuse 11.3 KDE. This one contains a Broadcom 4312 WLAN card
I just installed the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop packages from the packman repository. Then there is a new entry in the bootmanager menu. Using that one, WLAN works fine.By the way: Can somebody explain me the difference between the broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop, broadcom-wl-kmp-default, broadcom-wl-kmp-pae, broadcom-wl-kmp-xen packages? I did not find any documentation about that.
I'm unable to get into my university's WLAN network. LAN works just fine, but sometimes it's quite convenient to be able to access stuff wirelessly. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, because if I configure my computer according to our computer department's instructions it works fine with Ubuntu (currently I carry around a stick to get into the Internet when I really need it and don't have a cable). Some info:
My device: Broadcom WLAN controller on a Lenovo G560
My system: OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit
The drivers are installed, I can get into normal private networks, but have never managed to get into the university network except for with Ubuntu.
The university instructions tell me to use the following settings: Security: WPA Enterprise Authentification: TTLS Inner Authentification: PAP Username: My username Password: Password CA Certificate: Deutsche_Telekom_Root_CA_2.pem In the KDE instructions, they tell you to write "anonymous" into the anonymous identity field, but in the GNOME instructions it says to leave it blank. In Ubuntu, I leave it blank and it works.
I've got the recommended settings, which also work in GNOME.
I'd ask the tech support here, but I am the tech support We've got it working with other systems, like I said, but not with SUSE, and I'm a SUSE fan.
just installed opensuse 11.3 on my asus eee pc 1018p and have severe problems to make the wireless network card work. tried to install the driver with ndiswrapper and b43-cutter, but without any success. ifconfig does not show any wlan0 device. below find output of
lspci -v dmesg ifconfig
installed opensuse on several notebooks/netbooks before but never ran into serious trouble.
I'm having problems with wifi on my Dell Inspiron 1501. According to the specifications, it has a "Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN MiniCard". I could not activate the device. I have installed openSUSE 11.4 with GNOME.
i installed suse (KDE) on my old notebook and now I'm trying to get the wlan to connect to our router and can't figure out how to get it to work. My card seems to work, the network manager even finds the router, but i just cant get a connection. I followed the steps of the "Getting Your Wireless to Work" thread and these are the results:
[Code]....
- i messed around a bit with the network settings and might have cluelessly broken something (or broken it more)
- i tried a usb-wlan-card as an alternative, which didn't work either, but could possibly have messed things up even more.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed and can browse the internet via cable, but wireless isnt working. My wireless driver is "Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN".
In the windows device manager, I found the corresponding inf file to be oem20.inf which I tried to install it through "Setup Windows Driver" but it gave an error saying invalid driver. I also tried installing the Broadcom STA driver, but that didnot help.
I am dual booting with Windows 7, and i installed ubuntu through the windows wubi installer. My laptop is HP Pavilion dv4. I have installed the regular Ubuntu desktop and have made all upgrades. The results from lspci command i have added below.
gowda@ubuntu:~$ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev 07) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
Originally I used YAST's Software Packages to download and install ndiswrapper so that I can set up my Netgear wn511TA wireless card to work with GNOME openSUSE 11.2 default (2.6.31.8-0.1-default). I followed the guide in Ndiswrapper - openSUSE. I almost got it then was thrown off course by Network Manager. Now, back to square one. 1. Software Management shows 3 installed packages: ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper-kmp default and ndiswrapper desktop. Which of these should I run in order to install the Windows .INF driver file?
e.g. <ndiswrapper> -i <windriver.inf> or <ndiswrapper-kmp-default> -i <windriver.inf>
The reason for this is when I modprobe <ndiswrapper(?)>, I got: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31.8-0.1-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory. /etc/lib/modules is blank but home/user/lib/modules has the default 2.6.31.8-0.1-default module.
