OpenSUSE Install :: Errors Saying That The Packages Could Not Be Found And Gives The Option To Skip

Jan 31, 2010

I have an HP dv7-1285dx. First, I attempted to install openSuse 11.2 KDE via the live disk. A small ways through the installation, I was told that the image could not be properly copied to the disk. Then, I attempted to do it via the standard DVD, and a small ways through the installation I kept receiving errors saying that the packages could not be found, and gives me the option to skip. I can't install unless I skip all 600-something of them.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 - How To Skip Bootloader Installation

Aug 3, 2010

I just upgraded two 11.2 installations. One I easily managed from the dvd the other I had to install anew as the cd didn't offer the possibility of upgrading. While I appreciated the many improvements in desktop stability I found I am non very satisfied of the installer.

It became minimal and just does what IT wants and not what I want anymore. I miss the possibility of choosing desktops, programmes and settings during installation. Most of all I miss the possibility of choosing the bootloader and its location. I have a multi boot multi disk machine and I prefer to modify entries by hand so i never install the loader but add the new entry in the grub but this was not possible and it made just a mess erasing completely all other entries....

Booting has always been a great problem for one of my machines and I'm not going to upgrade it if thisi is the result. Is there a way of going back to the old options (no loader?) Why are the new installer always "easier" but less flexible for a user who's not geek but not even a newbie? Why does it have always to be more "Windows like"

I found a rpm feature. If you rpm install * and one of the packages fails to install then none of the remaining packages will be installed.

Does anyone know how to use rpm to install packages with file globbing and have rpm attempt to install all of the packages?

I found that --force works, yet I do not want to install over already installed packages.

I doing this because I need to install all of the packages in a directory.

OpenSUSE :: Plasmoid Component Not Found Errors

Jan 26, 2010

I had to reload my openSuSE 11.1 and reloaded KDE 4.3.4 from KDE Repositories and did an unconditional update on KDE Core and Community to ensure I got all the current versions back.

I am now having an issue with at least two plasmoids that is regularly used. When I attempt to add them to the desktop, I get the message "component not found". This happens to at least these two, yasp and yawp for system status and weather. It may happen to others, I haven't tried.

They are both loaded and both are present in /usr/share/kde4/services. I removed them using YaST, then rebooted, then re-added them, then rebooted and still get the same result, component not found.

OpenSUSE Install :: Should There Be Option To Download ISO Option For CD Installation

when I go to download 11.3 I am presented with the installation medium for a DVD installation with a button that says download DVD. Ubuntu :: Win7 Option Not Found On Grub After Kubuntu 10.10 Install

Apr 5, 2011

I had my Laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1520, running Windows 7 and Windows XP - I had a few gigs of unallocated space, so I decided to install Kubuntu alongside it, worked fine no problem, with the exception of running out of space very quickly - I got fed up with it, and installed Kubuntu over the Windows XP partition (around 80gigs, and the first OS to be installed on the computer). After I installed it.

All was working perfectly until I rebooted to discover I am missing my Windows 7 boot option in GRUB, before I had to press Windows XP Embedded and it opened the boot dialog, but here I dont get the option, is there a GRUB 2 option I can change to allow it to show Windows 7? The Computer works perfectly, it's just the GRUB doesn't show Windows 7, and I'm hesitant to format its old partition and reinstall it due to the fact that it may over ride the grub and leave me without Kubuntu access?

OpenSUSE Install :: Upgraded From 11.2 To 11.4 - Switching Systems Packages To PACKMAN Packages

Aug 31, 2011

I just upgraded from 11.2 to 11.4 and the installation/upgrade worked just perfect. I than followed the instructions in the "New User How To/FAQ", "Multimedia and restricted format" post. I was following the instruction in the 11.4 section. I added the additional repositories as explained. I then was on the section where it talks about going into software management and selecting the "Packman" repository and clicking to "switch systems packages" to the versions in this repository (packman). I than click this link and the "warning" screen appears and I am present with conflict resolution after conflict resolution dialog. It just seems that there are some many conflicts, it just seems wrong and I canceled.

The installation/upgrade appears to have worked just fine. My mail is there, audio and dvd play back worked the first try after the upgrade. I am not clear if this is what I should expect or their is something wrong or if I even need to complete this step for a successfully installation.

OpenSUSE Install :: Option (Installation Regarding To Opensuse And Windows Server 2008?

Mar 20, 2011

right now, my machine runs ubuntu 10.10 due to work issue, i need to use windows server 2008 R2 (its a windows exclusive company) but i never used any of the active directory or anything from the windows server (only experience with windows is visual studio and those GAMES!), so i figure i need to practice a bit on my own b4 starting the job and just at the same time I found out as a univ student i get it for free! And plus, I am finding opensuse a better option for me than ubuntu So im wondering what i should do regarding these 2 systems here s some option

1). Install openSuse 11.4, and install VirtualBox and use windows server 2008 R2 on vbox
2). Install windows server 2008 R2 and then install openSuse alongside with it
3). Install windows server 2008 R2 and install openSuse in virtualBox

I have been using linux as my primary OS for more than a year now and I rlly need it for both school and my own entertainment. So wondering which option would best work out for me

wat are your opinions? PS: my machine is about 2 years ago a Dell laptop, with core 2 duo p8700 (2.53ghz) 4GB ram, and nvidia gfx, which even tho is still fast, but isnt rlly that snappy when it comes to virtualization even running xp in a virtual machine is quite laggy at times :S

Ubuntu Installation :: With NVIDIA 310M Graphics Card Drivers (310M) On A Dell Vostro 3300 - Errors "no Device Found - No Screens Found"

Oct 28, 2010

I have a Dell Vostro 3300, i5 460 processor with a NVIDIA 310M Graphics Card. I'm doing a KUBUNTU 10.10 (Maverick) install with the following results. The Live CD boots just fine to, "TEST," or "Install." Installation goes fine. However, the graphics card being used is the Intel i915. I have tried installing the NVIDIA drivers directly from the, "Additional Drivers," tool and after the reboot I get through the boot screen to the console. I try to manually startx and I get the errors, "no device found," "no screens found." The second install I tried purging and blacklisting the nouveau drivers and entering safe mode. Then using apt-get install nvidia-current. After that, nvidia-xconfig. Same results.

The third attempt I re-installed and this time downloaded the drivers from the Nvidia site (version 256.53). Blacklisted nouveau, remove all nvidia, updated initramfs, etc. The install went fine however I still end up at a console after boot with the same messages as above. No device found, no screens found. I've tried searching through the forum and web and have tried things like adding the modset option along with many other hacks, tips and fixes. still, no go.I can live with the Intel graphics for now although I lose 512MB of memory. Unfortunately there is no way to disable or change this set-up in the BIOS. I've seen quite a few bug reports at Launchpad:

1. Is this something I should just wait til a fix comes? Will a fix come?
2. Is there, or will there be an official Updated Ubuntu Guide for Maverick to install NVIDIA drivers with this tecnology?
3. Lastly, is there anything else I should try??

Ubuntu Servers :: Bind9 Errors: Unknown Option 'zone'

Aug 11, 2010

I am trying to get bind 9 up and running on a new installation of server 10.04 and keep getting errors when starting the daemon -

* /etc/bind/named.conf.local:19: unknown option 'zone'
* /etc/bind/named.conf.local:20: unknown option 'zone'
* /etc/bind/named.conf.default-zones:3: unknown option 'zone'

* /etc/bind/named.conf.default-zones:21: unknown option 'zone'
* /etc/bind/named.conf.default-zones:26: unknown option 'zone'

The onlything I could find after scrubbing the internet is once ina while there's a missing bracket. But I have checked and triple checked my config files and the syntax and can't find anything wrong. I have another installation of bind9 running on Fedora and the same exact syntax works just fine.

Fedora :: Dependency Errors For Several Packages

Jan 15, 2010

I am new to Fedora (using Constantine). I want to like it and it works nicely with on my Thinpad but there is a problem that would make me swith back to Ubuntu/Mint if I don't find a solution to it: I get dependency errors all the time missing librpm.so.0()(64bit) and librpmio.so.0()(64bit)

First I had this problem installing KDEnline and I thought, this program might be to exotic but the same problem stopped the installation of OpenOffice which is very strange. Is installing programs always such difficult for all the different packages like for Open Office? Is Fedora maybe to difficult for me as a intermediate user?

Debian Multimedia :: Can't Configure X-Server - Errors "device Not Found" And "no Screens Found"

Apr 15, 2011

I installed debian 4.0 (etch) on an old computer with some pickled graphics card in it, and then I upgraded the computer to one with slightly newer hardware only without the graphics card (the new one used on board graphics). I moved the hard drive from the old one to the new one but when I booted it up it failed to start the X-server and I got some errors listed for "device not found" and "no screens found".

I tried using "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" however I can't seem to find a working configuration. It seems pretty silly that when installing debian it can detect all this automatically with no problems but when it comes to changing some hardware around you are left in the dark with a complicated re-configuration process. Is there not some way to automate this? I'd rather not have to re-install everything

OpenSUSE Install :: No USB Boot Option In BIOS?

Aug 29, 2010

Under Windows XP in the C Drive, I've downloaded PLoP boot manager to force the USB boot. I've tried about a thousand things and I get a different error message at different times from each attempt. I've got all of those documented, and I imagine I'll need to post them. I'm just not doing it quite yet as sometimes I give too much information and I really feel that I'm being an idiot here, missing something simple.

I'd like to install openSUSE onto the D Drive, using the USB and PLoP to boot it. I've downloaded openSUSE's torrents for all iso's (Net, DVD and LiveKDE). In order to get those files onto the USB, I first format to FAT32. I've tried UNetBootIn, LiLi, and mounting the iso on Daemon Tools and then copy-paste into the hard drive. None of these work and they all give different errors.Is this even possible, am I wasting my time? This is getting incredibly frustrating as I've been at it for nearly a week.
