I've been trying to get a live stick of OpenSUSE 11.2 running and I continuously get a script of "boot: could not find kernel image: gfxboot" running down the screen. Any other version of Linux will run fine off this same USB and I have not seen this error cited anywhere on these forums or Google.

I have used a USB loader to put the ISO file on the flash drive as well as extracting the file using winrar. (separate occations) I have also tried both LIVE CD as well as the full DVD.

I have results of "./getinfo.sh network", and other necessary config file info ready to post, but want to make certain on correct forum.
basically put a new hard drive in my old computer and wanted to install fedora on it, downloaded fedora 12 dvd iso (3ish gb in size) have burnt it to a dvd disc, turned my laptop on and set it to boot from cd drive, restarted it, it reads the disc and displays the following message:

The uderscore is flashing and i can type stuff in but have no idea what to type in to find the kernel image, or why it cant find the kernel image.

I'm installing from a USB stick. I can install v11.2 the same way no problem. USB stick created using SUSE Studio Image Writer and Win32DiskImager give same results.
I decided today to try Xubuntu on my netbook.I downloaded an ISO of it, formatted my old 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro, and used Unetbootin to copy all the stuff onto the drive.Of course with flashing cursor after "boot:". So I tried rewriting with Unetbootin, and then even tried writing an ISO of Kubuntu to the flash drive.Each and every time, I get the same message.

My laptop threw a wobbly recently (same time as kernel update?) I have got it to find the old kernel, but it still won't boot.It's a 11.3 install, dual-booted with XP. The /boot partition is in the root partition - sda7. Why is it trying to mount sda7 as swap? (not in fstab like that)

it says that the .iso passes checksum, installs live image, updates boot config file, and setup USB stick as a live image. Once again though, when I try to boot, or simulate booting with qemu, I get the same message "Could not find kernel image: linux"
I just downloaded the newest version of Ubuntu onto a USB drive. I put it into my computer and when it was loading Ubuntu, it said "Could not find kernal image: vesamenu.c32".

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded kernel 2.6.27.48-0.2-default to 2.6.27.54-0.1.1 on openSUSE 11.1. Before I tried to upgrade to 2.6.27.48-0.3-default where I encountered the same issue. After reboot it can not find the modules for 2.6.27.48-0.2-default which puzzled me to no end. Now I have found that the /boot which is on separate partition of ext2 type is not mounted. The mount command does not recognize ext2 and xfs anymore.
Clearly the initrd does not have the right modules. Since this is standard zypper up process I would expect this to work without issues since it has worked until the 2.6.27.48-0.2-default kernel without issues. Has something changed with the last 2 kernel versions that requires some extra actions from me and if so what do I have to do.
I've just purchased HP Mini 5103 with preinstaled SLED, but I want to replace with 11.3. But I have serious problem with booting from USB. Due to problem with BIOS bug/feature, 5103 is unabled to boot using USB with recursive partition (which is created from hybrid openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso either with ImageWriter of dd). When I create bootable USB with syslinux and copying of iso to existing partition, I ended with error "failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drive" (I have tried also both initrdud files, older one failed with "failed to detect USB", newer with "failed to detect CD"). I have also tried to install from full openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso which I have copied to USB using Unetbootin, but with this bootable USB I ended with "invalid or corrupt kernel image".

View 6 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD.iso and placed it on a 16GB USB drive using the Windows LiveUSB creator which had downloaded when I first download Fedora 11.The USB boots fine and I choose the language and the the keyboard layout. I tell it the image is on the USB drive it displays /images/install.img as the image.
However after going through all the steps up to choosing where I want it throws an error saying cannot find image #1 on the hard disk.Now if I boot again and instead of choosing the USB drive I hit F2 and then choose the USB drive then /Images then the install.img and press O.K. it says it isn't and just cycles around the choose drive/image.

A few days ago yast did update my computer to a new kernel-desktop 2.6.31.12-0.1.1.
My mainboard is an ASUS P4P800-VM with Intel ICH5 chipset. This new kernel is not able, to poweroff my computer. Older kernels were able to poweroff the computer.
How can I roll back to the older kernel? Yast does only offer the recent kernel.
In /boot there are only files of the recent kernel.

I'm trying to run extract-ikconfig because I've mistakenly deleted an old kernel config that I'd like to recover. However, when running the script from the latest (2.6.32.5) tree I run into this error:

I have downloaded the i386-DVD.iso image and have burned it on a DVD using Nero Express 6, when it boots from the DVD, it give me an error message "Could not find kernel image: Linux" and the boot: prompt after that. I have burned another DVD using Infra Recorder with minimum write speed but with the same problem. I have Ubuntu already installed on the computer.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a MythBuntu system running 9.10 and as many others I am having issues with my wireless card controlled by ndiswrapper (networks are detected but it is unable to obtain an IP address most of the time, once in a while it connects, it also has the "invalid cmd 12" issue which fix is described here).
So I found this thread here (see post #30 on the bottom) and I'd like try upgrading the kernel to a version which Synaptics apparently doesn't offer. So my question is basically threefold. Where do I find/download the kernel (is there a way to use apt get ...) What method do I use to install it (I've found several directions on how to compile it, if someone could point to the most complete ones, I would appreciate it. If for some reason something goes wrong and I need to downgrade again, how do I do that (Synaptics?).BTW, I can hook it up to the network through ethernet and ssh into it from my Mac Mini to work on it.
I am an experienced Linux admin and have been using SuSE for many years. My development machine has had every version of SuSE since '02 and although it is a little old, is in good working order. (AMD
2400, 2 gig RAM, 160 Gig IDE disks - SuSE on disk 2) (OpenSuSE 11.1 with the latest kernel works perfectly. This install is on a spare HDD prior to doing a full install on my usual HDD.)
When I try to install SuSE 11.2 from DVD, the load kernel operation hangs at 97% (using both normal and safe kernel), however, I can install from live CD without any problem. I have tried the same DVD on a few "older" machines and had the same problem. I initially thought it was the actual DVD but re-burning has the same problem. I have also tried another DVD writer - same problem.
