CentOS 5 :: PXE/NFS Install - Could Not Find Kernel Image?
Jul 1, 2010
In order to not post into the wrong forum, I am wondering if an issue related to performing a PXE based NFS install can be posted here, or does it belong in the networking forum? Seems that I've seen both, and I've done several searches using parameters/error messages that I'm seeing and can't seem to find a post that relates.
I have results of "./getinfo.sh network", and other necessary config file info ready to post, but want to make certain on correct forum.
I've been trying to get a live stick of OpenSUSE 11.2 running and I continuously get a script of "boot: could not find kernel image: gfxboot" running down the screen. Any other version of Linux will run fine off this same USB and I have not seen this error cited anywhere on these forums or Google.
basically put a new hard drive in my old computer and wanted to install fedora on it, downloaded fedora 12 dvd iso (3ish gb in size) have burnt it to a dvd disc, turned my laptop on and set it to boot from cd drive, restarted it, it reads the disc and displays the following message:
ISOLINUX 3.75 209-04-16 ETCD Copyright (C) 1994-2009 H.Peter Anvin et al Could not find kernel image: Linux boot:_
The uderscore is flashing and i can type stuff in but have no idea what to type in to find the kernel image, or why it cant find the kernel image.
I decided today to try Xubuntu on my netbook.I downloaded an ISO of it, formatted my old 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro, and used Unetbootin to copy all the stuff onto the drive.Of course with flashing cursor after "boot:". So I tried rewriting with Unetbootin, and then even tried writing an ISO of Kubuntu to the flash drive. Each and every time, I get the same message.
I am currently running Fedora 10 XFCE on an Acer Aspire 1 (1.6ghz atom, 1.5gb ram, 8gb ssd). I am trying to install Fedora-11-i686-Live-XFCE via USB stick (Kingston 4gb) and am having no luck. I downloaded the .iso via bittorrent. If I use liveusb-creator: .iso passes checksum, installs boot image, installs syslinux, claims it's complete. When I try to boot, or simulate booting with qemu, I get the message "Could not find kernel image: linux" If I use
it says that the .iso passes checksum, installs live image, updates boot config file, and setup USB stick as a live image. Once again though, when I try to boot, or simulate booting with qemu, I get the same message "Could not find kernel image: linux"
I just downloaded the newest version of Ubuntu onto a USB drive. I put it into my computer and when it was loading Ubuntu, it said "Could not find kernal image: vesamenu.c32".
I'm new to fedora and when I boot from a cd I get the message: could not find kernel image. I currently have windows xp and my motherboard is and ix38 quad gt if that helps.
after update to kernel-2.6.18-164.el5 one of the 2 NIC's of my machine are only found at 1 of 4 reboots. Using the old one kernel-2.6.18-128.7.1.el5 all is fine. This are the to NIC's:
I just built this computer with a bunch of old parts, and i put in a blank hard drive. There is no operating system on this computer yet. I put the Ubuntu Usb into the computer and made it boot from the Usb. Everything looked fine and good, until it said "boot:". It wanted me to type something in. So i clicked enter and it said "could not find kernel image: linux".
I need module init tools 3.13 or higher. I have tried to install them from .debs I've found but after doing the make install it doesn't install them! then it says to do depmod but nothing works still! Also my wifi is super slow I have a realtek 8192CU. If I tether my phone my internet speeds are normal.
I downloaded Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD.iso and placed it on a 16GB USB drive using the Windows LiveUSB creator which had downloaded when I first download Fedora 11.The USB boots fine and I choose the language and the the keyboard layout. I tell it the image is on the USB drive it displays /images/install.img as the image.
However after going through all the steps up to choosing where I want it throws an error saying cannot find image #1 on the hard disk. Now if I boot again and instead of choosing the USB drive I hit F2 and then choose the USB drive then /Images then the install.img and press O.K. it says it isn't and just cycles around the choose drive/image.
I want to install package kernel-image-2.4.27-2-686-smp, but when i use terminal to install , write sudo apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.27-2-686-smp but couldn't find this package. In my synaptic i can't find this package to install. I downloaded from [URL] this package kernel-image-2.4.27-2-686-smp_2.4.27-12_i386.deb ,when i install , to appear error: "dependency is not satisfiable: initrd-tools", i downloaded this package initrd-tools and install but appear this error:"dependency libdevmapper1.02", in my synaptic i saw this package libdevmapper1.02 already installed.how to install package kernel-image-2.4.27-2-686-smp from terminal or from synaptic.?
I've a problem running jessie on a XEN supervisor; my running kernel and the installed kernel image differ, because the host system forces the kernel at boot time. Current loaded kernel is
Code: Select all$ uname -r 3.18.12
But I'm not able to install this version from the standard repository.
Code: Select all# apt-cache search linux-image linux-headers-3.16.0-4-amd64 - Header-Dateien für Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64 - Linux 3.16 für 64-Bit-PCs linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64-dbg - Debugging symbols for Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 linux-image-amd64 - Linux for 64-bit PCs (meta-package) linux-image-amd64-dbg - Debugging symbols for Linux amd64 configuration (meta-package) nvidia-kernel-3.16.0-4-amd64 - NVIDIA binary kernel module for Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 - Linux 2.6.32 for 64-bit PCs, Xen dom0 support
Now I'm facing issues loading kernel modules for iptables, because the module path does not exist. Is there an easy way to install a proper kernel image from the standard repositories?
I'm trying to install debian-6.0.2.1 from hard diskand it can't find my iso image wich is on the slackware partition.i downloaded initrd.gz an vmlinuz, added some lines to lilo.conf so that i can boot but then when it searches for the iso image doesn't find it .
I'm trying to create new RAM image file to get my server load raid1 module upon start, I was following redhat documentation & it suggested to use the following command mkinited --with=raid1 inited-raid1-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r) However after running this command I'm getting this message No Kernel available for 'inited-2.6.18-128.el5"
I finished downloading of "openSUSE-11.1-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso" file. I downloaded it by Opera WB. Then using Nero I burned this file to CD. But there is a problem with boot. Please, make a support to this problem. Maybe file, which is in a site opensuse.org is damaged?
After the reboot of computer this text appears: ISOLINUX 3.63 0x49364136 Copyright (c) 1994-2008 H. Peter Anvin Unknown keyword in configuration file. Unknown keyword in configuration file. I'm getting this error trying to install Live GNOME 32bit v11.3 or 11.4 build 11:
Code: Couldn't find Live image configuration file
I'm installing from a USB stick. I can install v11.2 the same way no problem. USB stick created using SUSE Studio Image Writer and Win32DiskImager give same results.
I just installed a fresh CentOS 5.2 32bit system. I used "The Perfect Server" server document from Howtoforge and went through those steps and then added Webmin administration console. I then tried to install VMware Workstation 6.5 onto the system. I downloaded the latest VMware bundle, ran it and everything went fine. I then try to run vmware and I get the following messages
C header files matching your running kernel were not found
Before youcan run VMware Workstation, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel
Kernel Headers 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5.centos.plusPAE

I have a fresh install of COS5.6 installed a test laptop. I have following instructions to set up the PXE server based on the following: http:[url]......The base PXE installation seems to work fine (The menu labeled CentOS 5.6 works fine ). The whole purpose of this was to be able to boot iso's like Hirens and Imaging software ISO's.The issue is that whenever i try to pick an iso from the list it just says "Could not find ramdisk image:" [path to iso][path to iso] being either of the two iso i had set up to test this.
I would like to think that i made a typo but i can find one. The files i used are from the source of syslinux v4.0.4.The following information should be pertinent Contents of /tftpboot/pxelinux.0/default[code].....
I have a limited experice with linux in an enterprise environment and looking for any direction as to what to do about this.
The first server I installed installed fine. The second server, installed with the same config, went to "kernel panic not syncing no init found try passing init= option in kernel" error. I tried reinstalling but it keeps going to that error after install reboot. The storage is ISCSI connected via Intel Server Adapter, which allows it to boot from ISCSI. Not sure if that's the cause for the problem, but the first server is connected to the same ISCSI and installed just fine.
Is there a way that I can make sure ISCSI module installs during installation? Although I think it is installed since it's able to copy the files and setup /dev/sda. I just wana make sure that it installs during setup.
I'm trying to run extract-ikconfig because I've mistakenly deleted an old kernel config that I'd like to recover. However, when running the script from the latest (2.6.32.5) tree I run into this error:
Quote:
ERROR: Unable to extract kernel configuration information.
This kernel image may not have the config info.
Coincidentally, this happens with all of my kernel images. Is it a fixable problem? I should really set CONFIG_IKCONFIG_PROC next time..
I have downloaded the i386-DVD.iso image and have burned it on a DVD using Nero Express 6, when it boots from the DVD, it give me an error message "Could not find kernel image: Linux" and the boot: prompt after that. I have burned another DVD using Infra Recorder with minimum write speed but with the same problem. I have Ubuntu already installed on the computer.
Machine is a Dell PE 1750. Previously running 5.2 or 5.1 32 bit. Tried to install 5.3 i386 but getting this error,
Error An error occurred transferring the install image to your hard drive. You are probably out of disk space.

Search the forums first. Well I did, can't find anything I understand. So please help an ignoramus in simple terms. The problem:- I'm trying to run vmware workstation and I get a desktop box pop up which says "Kernel .heade4s for version 2.6.37.1-1.2 desktop not found" How do I find them and install please.
My laptop threw a wobbly recently (same time as kernel update?) I have got it to find the old kernel, but it still won't boot. It's a 11.3 install, dual-booted with XP. The /boot partition is in the root partition - sda7. Why is it trying to mount sda7 as swap? (not in fstab like that)
I have a MythBuntu system running 9.10 and as many others I am having issues with my wireless card controlled by ndiswrapper (networks are detected but it is unable to obtain an IP address most of the time, once in a while it connects, it also has the "invalid cmd 12" issue which fix is described here).
So I found this thread here (see post #30 on the bottom) and I'd like try upgrading the kernel to a version which Synaptics apparently doesn't offer. So my question is basically threefold. Where do I find/download the kernel (is there a way to use apt get ...) What method do I use to install it (I've found several directions on how to compile it, if someone could point to the most complete ones, I would appreciate it. If for some reason something goes wrong and I need to downgrade again, how do I do that (Synaptics?).BTW, I can hook it up to the network through ethernet and ssh into it from my Mac Mini to work on it.
