View 5 Repliesbasically put a new hard drive in my old computer and wanted to install fedora on it, downloaded fedora 12 dvd iso (3ish gb in size) have burnt it to a dvd disc, turned my laptop on and set it to boot from cd drive, restarted it, it reads the disc and displays the following message:
ISOLINUX 3.75 209-04-16 ETCD Copyright (C) 1994-2009 H.Peter Anvin et al
Could not find kernel image: Linux
boot:_
The uderscore is flashing and i can type stuff in but have no idea what to type in to find the kernel image, or why it cant find the kernel image.
I've been trying to get a live stick of OpenSUSE 11.2 running and I continuously get a script of "boot: could not find kernel image: gfxboot" running down the screen. Any other version of Linux will run fine off this same USB and I have not seen this error cited anywhere on these forums or Google.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy laptop threw a wobbly recently (same time as kernel update?) I have got it to find the old kernel, but it still won't boot. It's a 11.3 install, dual-booted with XP. The /boot partition is in the root partition - sda7. Why is it trying to mount sda7 as swap? (not in fstab like that)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to fedora and when I boot from a cd I get the message: could not find kernel image. I currently have windows xp and my motherboard is and ix38 quad gt if that helps.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn order to not post into the wrong forum, I am wondering if an issue related to performing a PXE based NFS install can be posted here, or does it belong in the networking forum? Seems that I've seen both, and I've done several searches using parameters/error messages that I'm seeing and can't seem to find a post that relates.
I have results of "./getinfo.sh network", and other necessary config file info ready to post, but want to make certain on correct forum.
I have downloaded the i386-DVD.iso image and have burned it on a DVD using Nero Express 6, when it boots from the DVD, it give me an error message "Could not find kernel image: Linux" and the boot: prompt after that. I have burned another DVD using Infra Recorder with minimum write speed but with the same problem. I have Ubuntu already installed on the computer.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just built this computer with a bunch of old parts, and i put in a blank hard drive. There is no operating system on this computer yet. I put the Ubuntu Usb into the computer and made it boot from the Usb. Everything looked fine and good, until it said "boot:". It wanted me to type something in. So i clicked enter and it said "could not find kernel image: linux".
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhere can I find a DVD iso image of openSUSE-9.3 to download?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI finished downloading of "openSUSE-11.1-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso" file. I downloaded it by Opera WB. Then using Nero I burned this file to CD. But there is a problem with boot. Please, make a support to this problem. Maybe file, which is in a site opensuse.org is damaged?
After the reboot of computer this text appears:

I'm installing from a USB stick. I can install v11.2 the same way no problem. USB stick created using SUSE Studio Image Writer and Win32DiskImager give same results.
I decided today to try Xubuntu on my netbook.I downloaded an ISO of it, formatted my old 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro, and used Unetbootin to copy all the stuff onto the drive.Of course with flashing cursor after "boot:". So I tried rewriting with Unetbootin, and then even tried writing an ISO of Kubuntu to the flash drive. Each and every time, I get the same message.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed "open-SUSE 11.4" on a "500GB Free Agent External Hard Drive". I didn't have any problem in booting since last week that I booted it from my laptop. Also I did it before several times from then when I try to boot it e.g. from an "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz" PC the time between loading INITRD and starting boot sequence messages lasts nearly 30 minutes!(i didn't actually measure it but it take a long time in the same order). after starting boot sequence which is showed on monitor everything looks normal. e.g copy of files would be done by speeds between 2MB/s to 30 MB/s depending on the targets.I used to use the external hard derive to boot from different laptops and PC's from start but I didn't have such a problem anytime.

I'm trying to run vmware workstation and I get a desktop box pop up which says "Kernel .heade4s for version 2.6.37.1-1.2 desktop not found"
How do I find them and install please.
I am currently running Fedora 10 XFCE on an Acer Aspire 1 (1.6ghz atom, 1.5gb ram, 8gb ssd). I am trying to install Fedora-11-i686-Live-XFCE via USB stick (Kingston 4gb) and am having no luck. I downloaded the .iso via bittorrent. If I use liveusb-creator: .iso passes checksum, installs boot image, installs syslinux, claims it's complete. When I try to boot, or simulate booting with qemu, I get the message "Could not find kernel image: linux" If I use
Code:
# livecd-iso-to-disk /home/jorge/downloads/Fedora-11-i686-Live-XFCE/Fedora-11-i686-Live-XFCE.iso /dev/sdb1
it says that the .iso passes checksum, installs live image, updates boot config file, and setup USB stick as a live image. Once again though, when I try to boot, or simulate booting with qemu, I get the same message "Could not find kernel image: linux"
I just downloaded the newest version of Ubuntu onto a USB drive. I put it into my computer and when it was loading Ubuntu, it said "Could not find kernal image: vesamenu.c32".
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've recently begun using PING (Partimage is not Ghost) imaging software, and it works great with other Linux distros. Upon my first use on openSUSE, I found that I could not restore the image onto another computer. After a successful restoration of the image, I get: "Could not find /dev/mapper/isw_ddedgibjfd_ARRAY_part2 Want to fall back to /dev/mapper/isw_ddedgibjfd_ARRAY_part2? (Y/n)" during the first boot. I don't know what to do, I've tried taking multiple images, and restoring them on multiple computers, but I always get the same error.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded kernel 2.6.27.48-0.2-default to 2.6.27.54-0.1.1 on openSUSE 11.1. Before I tried to upgrade to 2.6.27.48-0.3-default where I encountered the same issue. After reboot it can not find the modules for 2.6.27.48-0.2-default which puzzled me to no end. Now I have found that the /boot which is on separate partition of ext2 type is not mounted. The mount command does not recognize ext2 and xfs anymore.
Clearly the initrd does not have the right modules. Since this is standard zypper up process I would expect this to work without issues since it has worked until the 2.6.27.48-0.2-default kernel without issues. Has something changed with the last 2 kernel versions that requires some extra actions from me and if so what do I have to do.
since i installed nvidia proprietary driver on opensuse 11.3 my boot-image is gone. This is not really in issue but i would like to have it back. is there a way to get it back or a bootimage howto or something?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just purchased HP Mini 5103 with preinstaled SLED, but I want to replace with 11.3. But I have serious problem with booting from USB. Due to problem with BIOS bug/feature, 5103 is unabled to boot using USB with recursive partition (which is created from hybrid openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso either with ImageWriter of dd). When I create bootable USB with syslinux and copying of iso to existing partition, I ended with error "failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drive" (I have tried also both initrdud files, older one failed with "failed to detect USB", newer with "failed to detect CD"). I have also tried to install from full openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso which I have copied to USB using Unetbootin, but with this bootable USB I ended with "invalid or corrupt kernel image".
View 7 Replies View RelatedCurrently I run into a rather confusing case. I met bellow mount errors when I was about to enter the rescue mode on SLES11:
Code:
Loading Rescue System (1/2) (19784 kB) - 100%
Loading Rescue System (2/2) (10268 kB) - 100%
Reading Driver Update...
[Code].....
Then I tried to extract the rescue image and to see what's wrong in the scrip, but it turn out that there is no boot script under /etc/init.d directory, either a similar one that may as it.
where is the script or which is the script does the mount things in rescue image?
PLUS, I can see /etc/init.d/boot script in SLES10 rescue image.
I got the serious problem after update my opensuse 11.2, after update the message appeared and said restart my machine to updates take effect and after restart system doesn't boot GUI workspace it boot into text like space named "Emerald - Kernel 2.6.31.8.0.1 - desktop (tty1)".What can I do to boot my machine into GUI again?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was installing the kernel-pae, in the middle of the installation it said it couldn't resolve some dependencies. it ask me to ignore or cancel I chose to cancel there after my system froze.
Now I cant boot any more I get the following:
I received a kernel update a few days ago. When I try to boot with kernel 2.6.37, I get a few errors saying that a volume couldn't be mounted and that /lib/modules/2.6.37-desktop/modules.dep couldn't be found. I'm then left with a minimal terminal prompt.
Is this a common problem? If not, I'll try to take a picture of the error so that you can see exactly what happened. I can still boot with kernel 2.6.34 like I could before the update.
Ive been trying to PXE boot a XEN kernel image in gzip format, and I was getting Invalid or corrupt kernel format error. Ive seen that other kernel images having a file type of Linux kernel x86 boot executable RO-rootFS are bootable. (both are bootable using grub anyhow).
Is there any way to convert the b/n the formats, or any other solution?
I was booting a Virtualbox instance, again I guess that shouldn't matter because pxelinux loads from tftp properly, but it doesn't even proceed to load the kernel. I think the issue here is with the image format itself rather than what it contains, or where it runs.
I wanted to Upgrade from Fedora 13 to 14 and downloaded the Upgrade Image using the Pre_Upgrade Installer. My system downloads the upgrade just fine but when it starts to perform the it asks for the location of the new Fedora 14 ISO and I have no idea where that is or what to enter as a possible location which I have no doubt is in the default area.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to work with Xen for the first time,if I mess up some of the lingo here or if I don't quite make sense. I've been running openSUSE 11.2 since it first was released, and after an initial problem with my video driver, its been working great. I tried to install Xen today, and after the install appeared to complete successfully, it asked me to reboot and boot into the Xen kernel. When I did this, although the system booted up to the command line, it didn't launch KDE. When I try to start KDE manually it tells me that it "Can't connect to X server".
This seems to be roughly the same problem I had when I first installed openSUSE but I can't for the life of me remember how in god's name I fixed it.
i need to use the realtime kernel because i use jack audio connection kit so i tried to install the realtime kernel from the install/remove software program. I've found 2 kernels : Kernel-trace and kernel-rt i tried both of 'em but i cannot boot up suse. The first one gets to 3/4 of the loading bar , i hear the welcome sound and then it won't do anything else. The second won't do anything, black screen.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am unable to boot the xen kernel but can boot the desktop kernel. The machine boots and the last message I see is:
(Xen) Created cpupool 0 with Scheduler SMP Credit Scheduler (Credit)
After this the screen just turns into a random mess. It looks like graphics memory is pointing at a area of memory filled with random data. The computer actually boots but the display is unusable and the keyboard fails (num lock doesn't work). I can cleanly halt by pressing the power button and waiting for disk activity to stop. After reading several other threads I've tried various combinations of vga=mode-0x0f00 and nomodeset but the result is always the same. I've set the vga mode to 0x0f00 as I actually get to see up to the "Created cpupool...." in this mode. The system boots without any issues with opensuse 11.2.
