When I scan the blue led comes on solid and goes back to blinking afterwords but nothing is found. I did try another adapter and the bluetooth worked. BTW The Bluedevel application is real nice and works much better then the kdebluetooth app,

OpenSUSE Install :: Get Device IDs From Drive Devices For Fstab Scripting?

Apr 1, 2011

I am trying to write a script to modify /etc/fstab that will add entries for a number of partitions on different disks.

The only thing that I do not know how to do is to obtain a unique id such as the ones in /dev/disk/by-id/ to address by from a given partition (ie /dev/sdb1). In my fstab I noticed that in installation the system added fstab entries that are unique (in /dev/disk/by-id/)

I could simply do /dev/sdb1 and so on, but I would prefer a unique identifier so that each mount point is tied to a partition on a specific and unique physical drive.

i need this to be script-able if possible, if not I would still like to know.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Unable To (auto)mount Devices Through USB

Ubuntu :: Can't Scan In 9.04 / No Device Is Found

Jan 26, 2010

I just bought an hp 6500 wireless printer, and after taking 5 minutes to set it up (amazing how easy it is to get hardware working that supported by Linux) I was happily printing...But- I haven't managed to get it to scan from my desktop pc running 9.04. Tells me no device is found. I added the printer to a laptop running 9.10, and it scanned perfectly straight away...

I've been through the Ubuntu help documentation and haven't found a solution.I think that maybe Turbo Print (for our old Canon printer) might have messed something up. I had to uninstall Turbo Print to get the printer to work (it hijacked Ubuntu's built in printing stuff).

Ubuntu :: Scan With XSane Get Device Not Found Alert

May 1, 2010

The one thing that has stopped me switching over to Ubuntu was getting my scanner to work. I finally resolved this issue. Here are the set I followed to get it working. When trying to scan with XSane I would get the device not found alert. Using the sane-find-scanner command would find the scanner as a USB device. found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x0851) at libusb:001:006 I amended the "rules" file for xsane /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules added the two following lines

Now I have a fully working colour scanner, bye bye windows

Fedora :: Driver / Software For Automatic Feeder Scan Device?

Oct 17, 2010

Recently, I bought the HP Officejet 4500 especially because of the automatic feeder for the scanner. The device is not supported by Fedora, but I found the driver for it at the HP driver site for Fedora 11 and / or 12.Now, I have two questions. First, I wonder why these drivers are not part of a Fedora distribution yet. Is there still some issue with it going on (something related to my second question or something completely different)?Second, the software (Sane) doesn't recognize different sheets of paper. When I place some 20 sheets of paper in the automatic feeder, the scanner scans them all, but only the first sheet is processed by Sane. Now, I saw that Sane in Fedora 13 is different than in Fedora 11 or 12. I expect it is improved, but I have not been able to work with it yet. Can I expect that it does recognize different sheets of paper from a scan with an automatic feeder?

Do you have any information on this one or how can I found out the necessary ports to open?

Ubuntu :: Is Remote Development Over VNC Using Local Devices Possible

May 12, 2011

I'm looking to convert my HTPC into a remote android dev server for my girlfriend and myself, however I want to make sure that it is possible to do what I am looking to do.Is it possible to map local devices to the VNC server (such as an android phone) so that we can work on development over VNC with phones we have on our client computers? I know its a trivial matter to map local drives over VNC, but what about non-HD devices, can I still maintain full functionality as if the device itself was plugged directly into the server?'ll be installing ubuntu again this weekend, never got around to it after my last HD failure.

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Use Remote Connections Like RDP And VNC To Both Windows Machines?

Aug 12, 2010

The geek-in-me won and I bought a spiffy little Acer Aspire One netbook, windows 7 starter installed. Now I take it to clients' workplaces instead of my 19" laptop (that I also bought because the geek-in-me won that time too).

So what do I install in the Suse/openSUSE range? I want a lightweight Linux, like Meego or openSUSE with a light Desktop. I need to be able to use remote connections like RDP and VNC to both Linux and windows machines, so maybe Meego can't do that? But maybe openSUSE with a very light Desktop will. I'll use gmail from the netbook, no need for Thunderbird etc. I like to have multimedia.

General :: USB Devices Stop Responding When A New Device Is Inserted?

Oct 4, 2010

I'm running archlinux & just recently started having a problem where ALL USB devices will stop responding for a second when a new USB device is plugged in. dmesg doesn't provide any hints. For example, I've got my music on an external HD & it will stop playing for like ~30 seconds if plug in my camera or gamepad...This issue only seemed to start after my home partition was erased & re-created, though I don't see how these two issues could be related.I've been running a custom kernel (2.6.35-rc6) for the past few months, and that hadn't changed to spur this issue. Thinking it may have been something weird with the kernel, I even switched over 2.6.36-rc6-mainline, yet this did not remediate the issue.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: MP3 Devices And Software \ Change The Mix Of Albums On My Device?

Jul 20, 2010

I've been playing with Ubuntu for a few years, and it runs great on said notebook, so I' m starting to ween myself from Windows.Biggest consideration for switch is music. I currently have an iPod touch 16. Been using itunes for a long time.I'm not married to the device or the software, and will rebuild my music library if needed (it's a pig of a mess anyway).I'm curious which mp3 device you are using and what linux software you are using it with for great results. I want a high end player iwth 16+ gig, and a music manager to keep a 10000+ file library organized. I frequently want to change the mix of albums on my device. I'm fine with buying music elsewhere from Apple. Prefer it actually - Amazon is a good choice.Should I keep hte iPod? Trade it for a Zune or something else? Sound quality is very important to me. As is wireless access/browsing, storage space, battery life, etc

Fedora Networking :: Bring The External Device (192.168.1.9) To The Set Of LAN Devices That Receive LAN Broadcasts?

Aug 18, 2009

i have an isolated LAN (no connection to outside) with 3 fedora boxes. Suppose one of the boxes has an IP device connected to the serial port. We use SLIP and slattach to configure it and we can ping the device from every fedora boxes. Is it possible to bring the external device (192.168.1.9) to the set of LAN devices that receive LAN broadcasts?

box 1: 192.168.1.1
box 2: 192.168.1.2
box 3: 192.168.1.3.

It runs slattach and uses 192.168.1.9 to address serial connected ip device. I set up this scenario and the external device is ping(ed) with success but if I build a socket udp program that sends a broadcast to the LAN all the fedora boxes receive it except the external serial device. Why.

Ubuntu :: Failed To Scan / Unable To Connect To Scanner

May 14, 2011

Ok, so a few weeks back my 6 year old daughter wanted to scan a picture she had made for a school project, I hadn't used my AGFA snapscan e20 for years, Infact it had been in a box for more than 5 years.

anyhoo I thought I'd give it a go and with some doubt plugged it in. Much to my joy and my daughters joy it just worked, there was life in the old dog still So two or three weeks on after I've installed a kernel update as well as others on my daughters Dell Optiplex GX620 Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (2.6.32-30-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP), my multi operating system literate 6 year old has drawn another master piece and popped it in the scanner only to recive the following error from simple-scan

What I'd like to know is,
1, How do I remove the entry for the scanner in simple-scan (ahh the old reinstall never fails)
2, why am I getting nothing back from my tail
3,Why did it break in the first place?
4, how to fix it (if not with a reinstall)

Please help as I don't want to break the "My Dad can fix anything" illusion my daughter has just yet.
