Jul 27, 2009I install one server in my system(linux 5.0) and accessing that server through the 127.0.0.1 private ip address(lo). While i connect to a remote server for validating registry it gives me the error and unable to connect to remote server. here some of the files i give here in below to know my system network configuration

Jun 4, 2011I installed dovecot on my server and now the imap and pop3 ports are open.But when I want to telnet it, it's not possible.Code: Trying 127.0.0.1...telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out.Also I can't any ports else. But I can connect to it from other computers. I tried to connect to this from my PC and it was successful.

I _am_ able to access the remote databases with psql. I've read literally dozens of pages, and am pulling my hair out. I'm trying jdbc:derby.//192.168.15.10:5432/bravo I get back java.sql.SQLException no suitable driver found for jdbc:derby.//192.168.15.10:5432/bravo If I use jdbc:derby./root/bravo - all is OK, using a local database created in /root I have jdk installed on the client; does it need to be on the server also?

May 4, 2010I'm trying to setup PS3 media server on my new OpenSuse 11.2 and I'm being unable to connect to the PS3. The multimedia server seems to being working ok, only it has not appear on XMB.
I've been searching on PS3 Media Server forums and try a couple of solutions regarding /etc/hosts and adding full qualified domain name of server to it, but it doesn't seems to work.

Jan 1, 2010I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a friends computer when Windows died on it, and though she has had relatively few problems with it, she still occasionally has problems that are really hard to impossible to fix over the phone. She is also not very knowledgeable with computers, so I was trying to guide her through setting up so I could connect to her remotely and try to figure things out, but I cannot get it to work.
I personally don't use Ubuntu on my computer, I use openSUSE and KDE so that does add to the problem, though I have used Ubuntu and Gnome a lot in the past.
I had her go to remote desktop settings and allow connections from other computers and allow other users to control the desktop, and at first I had her require confirmation and a password but it didn't work without it either. When I try to connect, it just hangs for a while then times out. I tried using KRDC and just VNC in the terminal with the same result.
There should be nothing on my side preventing a connection, but I am not positive. I am not very familiar with remote desktop outside of a LAN either. I am just trying to connect using her IP address, I don't know if there is anything else I need to include. Is there maybe some other setting that needs to be changed or maybe her DSL modem/router is blocking me though I don't know why it would, especially since P2P programs work fine.

1/ does this mean that the problem is not due to a firewall, but that the host 10.10.10.10 doesn't listen on the port 1234? other way does this mean that my firewall is authorizing traffic on the port 1234?

Dec 13, 2010I did a clean install of the latest version of Ubuntu. For some reason, there are still internet-issues. When I tried out the following command

Also, during install of the new ubuntu, it was unable to reach the repos for downloading. Odd thing is that I can go online, and that when I type 'ftp.microsoft.com' in my browser, it displays the file-hierarchy.

Jun 30, 2011I am implementing an automated backup scheme so I created a shell script which first creates SQL dumps for all MySQL databases, then retrieves all websites from the /var/www directory of a remote server. The latter is working as I am using rsync to get the remote files.However, the MySQL dumps being retrieved are the ones from the local server which is not what I want. I want to get the SQL dumps from the remote server as well.I have a tunnel between the local and remote server which I can connect to without using any password (I added the public key to the authorized_hosts), so I tried to add the following code to the script:
ssh user@192.168.x.xxx
I then attempted to retrieve the SQL dumps and exited from the remote server. However this does not work as I still have to enter exit manually in the terminal for the SQL dumps to be retrieved from the remote host. I don't know why this is happening. This is what the script is trying to do:

//retrieve SQL dumps

However what I want to do is get the server working so that I can remote connect to users. When I do connect instead of the active session all I get is a grey screen with an xterm window. I've done a lot of searching for this, but cannot seem to find a good answer. What I'd like to do is connect to the native X session. I've tried changing things in the xstartup file to things such as "-display :0" but it still doesn't work.

Feb 26, 2010I enabled remote desktop on my Fedora core machine.
SELinux is disabled, as is iptables.
I used UltraVNC to connect and it worked.
However, after I came back overnight, I tried to connect and it failed.
I received a "Failed to connect to server"
Found that the machine had rebooted.
How do I get it the Remote Desktop function to start as a service? I am new to Linux.
