OpenSUSE Hardware :: Lgfxgears A New Alternative To The Famous Glxgears Demo?
Mar 4, 2010
lgfxgears is the new minibenchmark for your graphics card. Its compatible with wide range of hardwares. The new glxgears alternative looks better, and speed depends on graphics card and driver's power. It compatible with linux, and windows. I would happy if peoples would poste here they results. i alreday have a few:
nVidia GeForce 9800+ 180 fps win
ATi Radeon 9800 pro 62 fps win
ATi Radeon 9800 pro 76 fps linux
I ordered a free Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop CD and followed the instructions(put it in the dvd rom and restarted my laptop). All goes very well up to one point when it's loading, but there's no progress. I left it so for about an hour while I went out to see if it would load, but when I got home the screen was the same(even the loading animation stopped). I have Windows 7 installed and I want to install Ubuntu on another partition.
I've a Toshiba M40-282, with an ati mobility x700. I tried Ubuntu and now Fedora and I'm having the same problem..The pc is fast in anything except videos (like megavideo)..running glxgears the pc starts slowing down as when i watch videos. What can I do? try another distribution? try something else?
Code: dave@dave-laptop:~$ glxgears X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 135 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 16 Current serial number in output stream: 16
I guess this is indicative of an underlying problem with X11. However, I have no idea how to solve this or, indeed, where to start.
i need to setup a demo desktop environment for ppl to try out a java based gui. i need to put this demo on a VPS server, run a vncserver, and use a web-based vnc viewer for ppl to access to it. what is the best desktop environment for this case, 1. my vps server only has about 200m memory left 2. i need to have java swing set running 3.it doesn't have to be cool, but it needs to be quick. i heard that freeNX is quicker, but i doubt there will be a web-based viewer around. i tried both gnome and xfce4 on my virtual machine and vnc to it, strangely i found out gnome is somehow faster than xfce4 which is supposed to be otherwise.
I have a user that has already used up a demo 24hr trial on my website. At present, I only check the customer id and the IP address to search for duplicates. On the whole this works but it's not foolproof. We now have 1 user from China that is changing their IP address everyday to get access to the free trial. Any options on what to do? I thought of downloading a cookie to their computer that the website could pick up - again not foolproff but most people don't disable cookies. Any other options?
I could ban China temporarily until the user gives up but if they find another proxy to chain then their IP address will be different again.
The following is my system: AMD Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz 4GB DDR2-800 DC Radeon HD 5770 1gb Ubuntu 10.4 LTS, latest proprietary drivers.
On GLXGears, I only get 12k fps. This seems very low, especially considering the fact that my Acer Aspire One laptop gets 1-5k scores on a POS Intel GMA 950.
My exercise below is to check if glxgears crashes xorg of CentOS5.4 with Intel GM965 Chipset. Apparently I don't have luck in this case. Since the exercise failed, it means I will still stick to CentOS 5.2 (residing on a different partition) for a while, even though CentOS5.2 crashes glxgears too. After "yum upgrade" (done after moving all repos in /etc/yum.repos.d to elsewhere except CentOS-Base.repo and CentOS-Media.repo), I ran glxgears that consistently crashes CentOS5.2 xorg, an issue that upset me quite a bit.
During upgrade, I saw a line "grubby fatal error : unable to find a suitable template". I guess the my grub.conf is too confusing for the installer, but that is not big deal, I just used the kernel number 2.6.18-164 where it is applicable. Even this this new update, glxgears still crash the xorg (the screen froze and then a new login screen reappears). With this I am sure the 3D application might still crash the xorg from time to time. (I can still revert to CentOS5.2 with a tar file, but I am still thinking to just upgrade to Centos5.3 but I don't know how.)
I have downloaded the Mediawiki demo appliance from UEC store. I have installed it and also it is running. I would like to know how to access the mediawiki demo appliance. I tried accessing it as [URL] but is not accessible.
I tried to boot from CD for demo mode (9.10) but my XP machine wouldn't do it. I opened CD from My Computer and a selection window opened. Choices were to reboot to demo, Install to Windows or Help with Boot. I selected Help with Boot and a boot program was downloaded and installed (I think to drive C: (XP)). When I restarted, a new boot window opened giving me a choice to boot to XP or Ubuntu (9.10) and I chose Ubuntu. Instead of opening for demo it went to full install and I aborted the procedure, went to add/remove programs and uninstalled Ubuntu. Now when I restart I still get the boot selection window, Any suggestions as how to remove the boot program? Can't find it.
I have installed and un-installed 3 different versions of Ubuntu. My fourth is a re-install of v9.10. During all these installs I have had difficulty getting my wifi to work. During my last install I left the ISO in the drive by mistake so when the system rebooted it loaded from the disc in demo.... This was interesting because in the demo the program manager showed 2 drives for wireless, 1 Broadcom STA and 2 Broadcom b43xx. I tried loading the STA and it worked! (sorry it could have been the b43xx, for the time being it's insignificant) Upon my excitement I restarted the computer and removed the disk went to my Ubuntu set up and ...what the Broadcom choices weren't there Why?
Now I am running Win 7 Home 32bit on my main drive and have Ubuntu loaded on its own drive. I have a Netgear WN311b wireless N card installed. Again my confusion is why it worked in demo (off the cd) but doesn't from full install. I read on the web to try inserting my supplied disc from Netgear and then search program manager. It now showed the two for-mentioned Broadcom programs, but this time wouldn't install them. On the b43 I got an error message and on the STA it searched extracting and loading this continued for a 1/2 hour with no progression. I couldn't close the PM or the extracting and loading box, so I had to restart the computer.
I just installed Debian Squeeze a couple days ago and haven't had any problems so far except trying to get 3D acceleration to work with my Radeon 5770 card. When running glxgears, I get over 900 FPS and the gears are spinning great. When I try to run a 3D game like OpenArena, ScorchedEarth, or FlightGear, they are all so slow as to be unplayable. (extremely slow)
I've been trying to get this working for a while and had no luck.As per internet advice, I installed firmware-linux-free and firmware-linux-nonfree.
In glxinfo, it says "direct rendering: yes"
In my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file it says:
(WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled (II) RADEON(0): Acceleration disabled (WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa (WW) Falling back to old probe method for fbdev
When i checked last time couple months back glx gears gave me 1400 frames around now i get
Code: glxgears Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
21 frames in 6.6 seconds = 3.160 FPS 2 frames in 5.6 seconds = 0.359 FPS 84 frames in 5.8 seconds = 14.362 FPS 149 frames in 5.0 seconds = 29.724 FPS 300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.814 FPS and everything is running slow im wondering where the problem might be? code....
I have an XP laptop, currently running very low on HDD space and RAM capacity, waiting to be replaced. Very slow indeed. It recently had problems booting up, and now takes about 20 minutes to get fully started. Is it safe/advisable to run the demo version of Ubuntu from the LiveCD? I really can't afford to trash or crash my computer, it's got lots of important data on it etc.
11.04 x86 4Gb RAM Dual 2.8 AMD ATI x1650 radeon (512mb)
I've been struggling with this for months now and I've tried some many things, I've forgotten half of them!
Basically, 11.04 picks up my card fine using the open xorg driver. I've got compize desktop effects (wobbly windows) but I can't play any HD video as it stutters and is completely unwatchable.
So to do any video editing, I have to boot into my Windows 7 install where the performance is considerably better.
Now then, I once managed to get a glxgears frame rate of 11,000 before I broke my install and had to re-install. Now I can't get above 300fps
rb@ub:~/Desktop$ glxgears Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
302 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.258 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.023 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.019 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.022 FPS
I have an ATI Radeon x1300 graphic card on an Intel platform.Since the last reinstall my Debian Squeeze system shows very poor performance in glxgears, only 80-90 FPS. Last time I had a problem the kms setting in the kernel. I disabled the modding setting in GRUB and then glxgears showed about 900-1300 FPS. Now,the problem is back, even though I made the same setting in the boot loader.
SUSe 11.2-64 running on a core quad Intel motherboard. In the room here are 3 computers with outputs through a Behringer mixer to a Sony surround sound system--it sounds better plus I dont have the spider web of a separate sound system for each machine. 11.2-64 has been excellent so far with the exception of the music player--Amorak. Someone decided to leave out any sound contour tools. I also have Banshee and MPlayer but have experienced various problems with them. Amorak, at least for my use isnt too lame but whoever "They" are decided to do away with the graphic eq.I like the ability to build playlists with Amorak which is missing in some other programs without an exercise in file system manipulation. Any one have suggestions?? One note I will add here is that in Windows 7 64 bit professional, which I am forced to use because of no software for my work written in Linux, running on another machine here-- someone had what I consider the really excellent idea of incorporating a graphic equalizer on the machine output under the Realtek audio package..one eq to control all sounds from that machine--anything like that available for SUSe??
Last two days I am trying to find alternative to skype. So I decided to find solution for my family, friends to chat, call (audio, video) using opensource product on linux. I have tried the following: (using same clients and gtalk accounts on both test machines)
1. Kopete 1.0.80 Firstly, I like it because it is native in opensuse KDE system. Secondly, it has optional jungle support for gtalk, which is ok for me. The only problem, I cannot turn on jingle support, because there should be talk.google.com server , but the right server is gmail.com. Only with gmail.com server I can connect to my gtalk. I was managed to do it right, but my friends do not have jingle settings (libjingle installed). What should we do? Will we be able to talk when we activate it?
2. Pidgin 2.7.10 (libpurple 2.7.10) Video calling, audio calling doesn't work at all. We using same version of pidgin on two computers, there is mention that it is calling but no progress after, nothing. Even camera turns on (no image though) but after doesn't turn off (camera light).
3. PSI 0.14 patched Psimedia installed, doesn't call at all. Says that the client reject me or busy.
4. Empathy 2.32.2 No options for video and audio hardware, nothing to change at all). Call from menu doesn't work, nothing happens after I press "call". Call from chat window impossible because buttons are grey, are not active. Now error "could not sync the state of the new nicesrc with its parent"
5. Gajim Even after writing down stun server stun.ekiga.net call buttons for video and audio call were inactive, unable to make call.
6. Ekiga Using pctel.ru. Works ok, sometimes problems with intiating video, but still something. I am not very happy because it is not XMPP.
7. Twinkle works like a charm. The only one client using which I haven't had any problems at all. The only thing to tailor is audio codec (also encryption if you like).
I hope to make a call one day and to be sure that I haven't used any closed program for it!
I am having some troubles installing tomcat on a fresh copy of 11.2. I began by following the instructions that I found here: Tomcat HOWTO - openSUSE and proceeded to install the requisite packages through YaST, except I chose to install tomcat6 and java 1.6, presuming that they would work equally well to the older versions indicated in the guide. My stumbling block came when the guide went on to tell me to download and compile an alternative mod_jk to the one included (even though I hadn't come across one, so I didn't have to uninstall one like the guide suggested.) The link provided in the guide was dead so I found an alternative link through google, and set up the directory structure as suggested. The next step tells me that I must run this command:
[code]...
I have tried to create an apxs2 directory in sbin, which isn't allowed. I have also tried running the command without the apxs2 on the end, also to no avail.
I would like to know what is OpenSuse application that does the same job of RH's system-config-authentication application. I need to test Active Directory authentication while setting up Samba file server to use AD accounts and ACLs.
