I love my Ubuntu installation, I'm definitely a convert. This issue is Im sure my graphics arent working at full spec, seems very slow compared to my old windoze install. Is there a standard benchmark and test software to compare my system to to ascertain whether its graphics or net connection? (Im mostly streaming over the net.. I have removed ipv6 already, no better.)
I've got an HP ThinClient that my computer dumped in the recycling pile. I swapped out the ATA 1-gig flash drive, and replaced it with a 60 gig ATA hard drive. I installed Ubuntu on it through a flash-drive, and everything comes up just fine. When I boot up the computer, I get the ubuntu screen, it comes to the login, I select my username and enter my password. I hear the little jingle music, and then the computers graphics get messed up. I still see the mouse, and it appears as though I'm opening windows, but they come up really as just screwed up boxes that are black or other colors and the graphics get all distorted.
I just figured out how to get into the GRUB menu, and I was able to boot in reduced graphics mode. verything seems to be in 16 colors, but I can actually log in now and see everything! (really cool). Just to give an update, I can log into the computer using rescue mode, and I can do everything on the computer that I want to in 16-color mode or whatever that mode is. As soon as I reboot in the normal mode, the graphics mess up as SOON as I log in.
Is there a website that collates any GPU benchmarks? I found something a few years ago, but can't recall what I asked google to get there. I am building a new PC and want to know how much more bang for my buck going from speed bin to the next garnishes me.
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says
Current usage: Unknown
There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power. It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector. The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?
im trying to connect two computers on lan.One computer has: VMWare Workstation and has Opensuse 11.3 mounted in it.The other computer has: VMWare Player and has Opensuse 11.3 mounted in it.Both computers are connected to a switch with cables.I have followed this guide in both computers:Depanati singuri calculatorul!: Opensuse 11.3 - configure local networkin order to setup a network. In one computer, if i go to: Computer---Network---Network folder, i only see one machine. When in fact i could see both of them right
I've a Toshiba M40-282, with an ati mobility x700. I tried Ubuntu and now Fedora and I'm having the same problem..The pc is fast in anything except videos (like megavideo)..running glxgears the pc starts slowing down as when i watch videos. What can I do? try another distribution? try something else?
Code: dave@dave-laptop:~$ glxgears X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 135 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 16 Current serial number in output stream: 16
I guess this is indicative of an underlying problem with X11. However, I have no idea how to solve this or, indeed, where to start.
I have a requirement. I need to write a shell script which will compare two directories residing in two different servers (SERVER A and SERVER B) and list out the discrepancies if found any. Script will be running from SERVER A.
compare the best ram memory usage among linux distributions?
At the moment with some live linux distributions I run "free -m", on the terminal of the graphical dektop environment, without running any other command or application. Is "free -m" the rightest way to evaluate the amount of all the available ram memory left by a linux distribution? Which are the values to sum to evaluate all the available ram memory for the operating system?
I 've a question regarding which points should be considered to compare 2 different linux distros say RedHat & Ubuntu. for a production environment non-db applications ..
Does anyone know of any benchmark I could use to compare kickstart with WDS?Apart from like saying that windows takes 15mins to deply a system comapared to Kickstart. What else can i really use and put figures to it?
Is DrawSWF (flash for linux) as powerful as Macromedia Flash (Windows)? Coz i used macromedia for some time & found it so, so, so powerful as in libraries and functions?
I want to compare two files in perl, I have two files file1.txt & file2.txt. if column1 on file2.txt match column1 on file1.txt then I want my result on file3.txt (column1 column2 file1.txt + column1 column2 column3 file2.txt). this problem was solved with "awk" but I want to do in perl.
I am writing a script to get the multiples of 2 and 3, place them in an 2 arrays, and then show the common integers. So far everything works fine till the comparision. I don't know how to compare them. Here is the code:
I am trying to write a script which compares a log file with reference file. The log file has a table, the LHS of the table are constants strings and RHS of table values changes if there are any changes in configuration.code...
Here I am looking for a script which compares test.log file ( whose RHS data-types are known prior whether it is digit or string) with test.Ref which is reference file for test.log file. It will be really helpful for me if any of you give some idea about writing this script.
Here i want to compare these two files with diff command and need to take the common things in a separate file. File contents are 7 strings in length and everything will start with the character e. File 3 contents should be
My project and compare the handover between WiMAX and LTE.I already properly installed ns-2.31 and the WiMAX module, and ns-2.33 and module lte.My problem is to have a script because I tested wimax handover l2handover but I do not know how to interpret the results file out.res.So I need a script handover Lte.even if that script works on ns-3 is good because I already installed ns-3.10.
The following is my system: AMD Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz 4GB DDR2-800 DC Radeon HD 5770 1gb Ubuntu 10.4 LTS, latest proprietary drivers.
On GLXGears, I only get 12k fps. This seems very low, especially considering the fact that my Acer Aspire One laptop gets 1-5k scores on a POS Intel GMA 950.
My exercise below is to check if glxgears crashes xorg of CentOS5.4 with Intel GM965 Chipset. Apparently I don't have luck in this case. Since the exercise failed, it means I will still stick to CentOS 5.2 (residing on a different partition) for a while, even though CentOS5.2 crashes glxgears too. After "yum upgrade" (done after moving all repos in /etc/yum.repos.d to elsewhere except CentOS-Base.repo and CentOS-Media.repo), I ran glxgears that consistently crashes CentOS5.2 xorg, an issue that upset me quite a bit.
During upgrade, I saw a line "grubby fatal error : unable to find a suitable template". I guess the my grub.conf is too confusing for the installer, but that is not big deal, I just used the kernel number 2.6.18-164 where it is applicable. Even this this new update, glxgears still crash the xorg (the screen froze and then a new login screen reappears). With this I am sure the 3D application might still crash the xorg from time to time. (I can still revert to CentOS5.2 with a tar file, but I am still thinking to just upgrade to Centos5.3 but I don't know how.)
I love Ubuntu Linux - especially the commmand line. But I have to admit that, at least for now, Windows is more user-friendly - there's more software for it, more drivers, and more stuff just works.
Knowing that Mac is built on Unix makes me wonder if it's the sweet spot between them. But I wonder: how similar is the Mac command line to Linux's bash? Could I pick right up with using vim and bash scripting and git, etc? Would common commands like changing directories be different? Does anybody know an online "compare and contrast" resource?
I need to compare 2 dates in european format (dd/mm/yyy). date -d<my date> %s command converts date into unix epoch (integer), thus make it easy to compare. The problem is that -d (or --date) option interprets date in US format-ie mm/dd/yyy.
I want to compare 2 name files, for instance. I got the package foo1.tgz and the foo2.tgz. and I want a script in bash that detects foo2 is newer than foo1 and delete foo1. Can it be done for managing collection of slackware packages.
I have a text file with 2 columns. Column A has 69,000 rows. Column B has 49,000 rows. Column A has our complete product list Column B has product list from Manufacturer 1 There are only certain/some rows which are common between 2 columns. and also, column B is not a subset of column A. Column A has extra entries and so does column B. I need to know, which rows from Column B, are common with Column A which rows from Column B are not common with Column A. Essentially I want to know from this list, how many of our products are from my manufacturer 1, how many does my manufacturer has which we dont carry.
How would I acheive this? My natural approach to solving this kind of obstacle is to reach for MS excel and use its lookup function, but its not working... Its taking forever and hanging up. since the file is so huge and probably my excel skills are really bad.
How can I do this from command line? I am looking for awk command if possible instead of sed since I am trying to pick up its syntax and usage etc. My thought process is, sort column A,B, for every row in A, lookup and output based on condition. Dont know if I am on the right track.
