I have had MASSIVE problems with media-players. None of the ones I tried have been working flawlessly. They end up hanging and not playing my music after a little while. My 35gb music library is originally an itunes library from OS X, copied to the ntfs partition of my netbook (low specs - 1 gb ram, 1,66ghz atom).
I have tried Exaile, Rhythmbox and Banshee (which I liked the most) from the EB4 repos, but none of them works to a level I can agree with. So I was wondering if anyone either has ideas as to how I can make any of the above players work perfectly or what other players I should try out?
I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.
i just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.
I'm currently running ubuntu 9.04. I'm able to mount data and MP3 audio CDs but I'm unable to mount and play regular audio CDs. When I try to mount it I get the following message:
Unable to mount Audio Disc Drive /dev/sr0 does not contain audio files.
Windows does not have any problems playing either the regular audio CDs or audio MP3 CDs.
I have an Ubuntu 10.04 desktop PC (desktop) that I access remotely, i.e. with no monitor and keyboard attached. I do this by making an ssh connection to "desktop" from my laptop (also running Ubuntu 10.04).
I have all my music stored on "desktop" and I want to play this remotely through the soundcard on "desktop" which is attached to a hi-fi amplifier, from my laptop.
I tried running, say, rhythmbox, on "desktop" through ssh X11 forwarding to my laptop but cannot play music - it says that the right codes are not installed although they are because I can use rhythmbox on "desktop" directly (attaching a monitor and keyboard to it).
It is normal when I play media of rmvb, tp, avi format, but when played mkv format media, I got the error:

There is a piece of streaming music I want, when I open it, the song plays using totem browser plug in. Is there a way I can capture the song and keep it as a file (or put it on my mp3 player), preferably without downloading anything.
I recently found that I can sync my music to my iPod without iTunes/Windows. I tried using Rhythmbox and it seemed to work. That was, until I tried playing the album I added. It just skips through the album.
When attempting to play an MP3 which is stored on my computers hard drive the song just stops playing part the way thru the song.I have had this happen on multiple computers that have Ubuntu/Lucid installed.Sometimes I get the error message that is attached,ut sometime I do not get this error message, the music just stops playing. What is causing this. I have another computer that also has Lucid installed and this does NOT happen
I'm having an issue when ever I play any type of media with any media player everything starts acting buggy. Buggy such as I can't click anything nor will hot keys work properly. Seems as if everything is somewhat frozen but the courser can still move. This only happens when I play a media file. Using Maverick Meerkat!
After a successful upgrade to lucid, everything was going GREAT (including FINALLY having surround output) until now all of the sudden music files won't play... When I double-click a file, Totem opens automatically, and it says it's playing, but there's no sound and the bar does not move across at the bottom. In VLC, the bar moves like it's playing, but there is still no sound. Doesn't work when I hover the cursor over a file, either. In previous versions of Ubuntu, a simple reboot would fix this, but that doesn't work with Lucid... Online streaming works fine.
I recently bought a new notebook, an Asus N73JQ. This notebook has a special sound system called "Bang & Olufsen ICEpower". The first thing I did was to install Ubuntu 64-bit. After installing and rebooting I am certain that i heard the Ubuntu login sound but ten minutes later when i tried playing music with Spotify all sound was gone. The login sound now gone too. I have tried editing settings in System -> Preferences -> Sound, with no luck. The settings dialog lists two sound devices, "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and "HDA NVidia Digital Stereo (HDMI)". Sound output device is set to the Internal Analog ** device. I have tried different profiles for this device but nothing seems to work. Does anyone here have the same notebook/sound system with a working sound configuration?
I am new to this forum and ubuntu linux. I am having one .avi captured file in winxp using webcam. It is not playing in winxp 32bit. I googled and found more then 2GB file will not play in 32bit OS, so I installed 64bit Ubuntu desktop and trying to play with VLC but still it is not playing.
When I sync my iPod touch 2G on 4.1 (same issue on 4.0), when I try to play the music on my iPod, it will just skip the song/not play it. I didn't have this issue on Ubuntu 10.04.
I am trying to build a media center for music for me and my roommates to use. Basically I want to build a system just for playing music. Idealy (dare i mention itunes in here) I would love a computer just just booted into itunes(orsomething like it (or better) that just was for playing music.
I plan on buying a computer, like a tiny desktop (i dont want to take up a lot of room) with a huge hard drive just for holding music, and needs usb drives/cd drive for loading music onto it (or just a usb drive). Then get a small screen, not huge with a remote that does not run on wife. Also would like a keyboard on the remote if possible.
Anywho whats a good media center, and can I boot just straight into the media center? I would like support for; browse by artist, album and just song name. Also I would like to be able to make playlist within it, and it needs to be able to support a massive amount of songs.
desktop computers to use for this project and remotes that I could use? Also how would you suggest the best way to go about doing this? I would love if it booted straight into the media player. Internet is not a huge deal to me, might connect to internet once just to grab album artwork. So a media player that auto fetches artwork too would also be nice.
I have an Ubuntu server installation set up as a media server with Subsonic in a medium sized office environment. I allow uploads from all employees to the media folder on the server. As you can imagine, it's going to get a bit messy in there with multiple spellings of artist and album names for directory names, duplicate files, and incorrect filenames and tags. I was hoping I could find a script that I could run daily as a cron job to clean up the media drive. I would like to maintain a path similar to: /mnt/music/Artist/Album/Song.file
this problem is quiet enoying, so i hope that somebody can help me tracking down this problem and find a solution. When i open vlc or exaile and queue a list of tracks, after playing some hours, the sound hangs and in the music player repeats the same 1 second audio part like a hickup, in video programs like vlc also the film freezes.
i have the latest libraries of gstreamer from packman installed and i also tried updating the pulseaudio libraries from multimedia repo. but the problem is still the same
I have installed ubunto on an old PC with minimal hardware resources. I cannot play or even see a music cd. I go to places-computer- and see the floppy drive, files system hard drive, and the cd drive. When I insert the music cd the cd drive disappears. It sees a data cd just fine.
After hours of googleing I'm stumped. When MPD is playing audio, I cannot play audio in another app (ie Totem/VLC).MPD runs under the mpd user. Alsa config is default (as far as I can tell, it configures itself automatically now). System is squeeze, up to date.
I want to build a computer inside my car mainly for having ALL my music in the car's hard drive. I want to run ubuntu (or ubuntu netbook edition) on it and be able to navigate quickly without using a mouse. Running programs is no problem but navigating any music players without a mouse is terrible. Are there any music players that have an ipod/xmb interface and are easy to navigate using mainly the arrow keys/enter? I have considered just using a touchscreen but I really want to find a way so all I need is a keyboard with 5 or 6 keys.
I have a rather strange problem and it surfaced just recently. Most likely it has something to do with switching from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 10.10.
When I upload music to my iPhone 3gs with iOS 3.1.3 (7E1 it shows in iTunes, however the phone skips over the music. This does not happen to songs I uploaded via rhythmbox two weeks ago.
For a test purposes I deleted the old songs from the iPhone and tried to put them on again. Now I cannot listen to them as well. At least I know it has nothing to do with the used mp3 coding.
I even can use the iPhone as a harddrive for that music and play music from their through rhythmbox.
The song list shows the right sizes on the iPhone.
It is save to say that the data is transfered and the music database is updated. So there must be a strange error in detecting the length of the songs which would point to a problem in updating the iPhone database. However, I cannot be sure, because the phone is not reporting any errors.
I have a desktop pc with ubuntu 10.10 which is connected to my hifi installation. With my laptop i login with "ssh -X" to the desktop pc and start banshee to play music stored on the desktop pc. (the banshee userinterface is shown on the laptop and the sound goes to the hifi installation) This works only when there is a monitor connected to the desktop pc, when i disconnect the monitor the sound is gone. Is there a way to play music without the monitor ?
I have seen already many post about my same problem but the suggestions have not been enough in my case .
I have Ubuntu 10.10, I run spotify through wine, but i receive the message saying can't play the music. I already ticked only ALSA, only OSS, both, I followed the other instructions for the audio tab ( Emulation, 44100 and 16 ), I reinstalled it as well, but nothing to do.
I have a NAS set up (ubuntu server 10.04) which contains all my music. But when I play music from it, I can not see how long the song is and I can not skip to a specific time in the song. When I play video, all works well.
