I would like to know what is OpenSuse application that does the same job of RH's system-config-authentication application. I need to test Active Directory authentication while setting up Samba file server to use AD accounts and ACLs.
View 2 RepliesI trying to set up a LDAP server using openLDAP / db4. The server runs fine but I cannot get the client to work. Client and server are on the same machine, as for now. The problem seems to be in PAM. However I cannot start the system-config-authentication tool which should do the trick.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI looked around, but found no results that really matched and I would like to point out that I am fairly new to linux, so this may be a very obvious answer to some of you.I am running fc12.i686, installed from a disk in the back of a book for a class. No one else in my class is having this issue.When I select System > Administration > Network I am given this error: Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/system-config-network" (No such file or directory). I am not so new to not realize that this file is not there, which I confirmed with an "ls -a". My question is, is there any way that I can download and install that bin? Or perhaps replace/repair it with the disc? It was supposed to be in the original install and my have been, the only thing that I have done in the /usr/bin/ directory is I tried to install Java (6.22 I think it was), which told me it installed correctly but didn't work when I tried Minecraft.

View 3 Replies View RelatedLast two days I am trying to find alternative to skype. So I decided to find solution for my family, friends to chat, call (audio, video) using opensource product on linux. I have tried the following: (using same clients and gtalk accounts on both test machines)
1. Kopete 1.0.80
Firstly, I like it because it is native in opensuse KDE system.
Secondly, it has optional jungle support for gtalk, which is ok for me.
The only problem, I cannot turn on jingle support, because there should be talk.google.com server , but the right server is gmail.com. Only with gmail.com server I can connect to my gtalk. I was managed to do it right, but my friends do not have jingle settings (libjingle installed). What should we do? Will we be able to talk when we activate it?
2. Pidgin 2.7.10 (libpurple 2.7.10)
Video calling, audio calling doesn't work at all. We using same version of pidgin on two computers, there is mention that it is calling but no progress after, nothing. Even camera turns on (no image though) but after doesn't turn off (camera light).
3. PSI 0.14 patched
Psimedia installed, doesn't call at all. Says that the client reject me or busy.
4. Empathy 2.32.2
No options for video and audio hardware, nothing to change at all). Call from menu doesn't work, nothing happens after I press "call". Call from chat window impossible because buttons are grey, are not active. Now error "could not sync the state of the new nicesrc with its parent"
5. Gajim
Even after writing down stun server stun.ekiga.net call buttons for video and audio call were inactive, unable to make call.
6. Ekiga
Using pctel.ru. Works ok, sometimes problems with intiating video, but still something. I am not very happy because it is not XMPP.
7. Twinkle works like a charm. The only one client using which I haven't had any problems at all. The only thing to tailor is audio codec (also encryption if you like).
I hope to make a call one day and to be sure that I haven't used any closed program for it!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been running F10 since it first came out, and I was happy to see it was the first Fedora release that automatically recognized my Atheros wireless card. I have to run system-config-network and press the "activate" button when I start the machine, but that's ok and no big deal. But today, for whatever reason,in system-config-network, the "activate" and "deactivate" buttons are grayed out and I cannot start the device so I have no network access. When I boot the machine into Windows, it works fine.

My colleague changed the hostname using "system-config-network", but now I want to change it using any how (either system-config-network or /etc/sysconfig/network). Even I changed it from /etc/sysconfig/network. But when I reboot the system its getting old hostname. Is there some other place to change hostname?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs i describe the thread,i won't be able to configure my NIC to connect to internet which is basically done by just running system-config-network in shell to configure xDSL connection.But instead of system-config-network it contains system-config-network-tui which is used for ISDN connection.And after running system-config-network as well as system-config-network-tui it shows the same output which is in attach file
After some google search it shows that there is bug with system-config-network and it is fixed in system-config-network-1.6.0.el6.2-1.el6 but i wont be able to find it.

I am using a network printer through a local CUPS interface. Since the network printer requires a different account name from my local system user name, I have to use '-U' option of command line tools, lpr for example, to print documents.Is there any way to config the CUPS system to user the alternative username so that I can print documents directly from, say gnome-print interface?

Do I export the certificate to a file and put it on a web server.If so what format as the export offers loads.

I'm trying in the company where I work to persuade my co-partners to move slowly into the world of linux, but because everything are set up on Windows is quite difficult. Though I can install at least in one PC openSuse or Ubuntu (I prefer openSuse), but the problem is that I have to find a way to make the authentication to a Windows Domain, which is running Windows Server 2003.
How is this possible? Is this procedure painless or I have to read a lot of staffs in order to make it work? I would be obliged if you could give me some steps on how to do it. I can't stand windows any more
I'm using openSUSE 11.1 and would like to authenticate vsftp users against a mysql database. The newest version of pam-mysql I can find is from 2005. I'm concerned about using something from what appears to be a dead project. Is there an alternative? I'm trying to come up with a solution where I can manage FTP users from an application running from Windows desktops.

The samba server is add to the domain and the servers can communicate with eachother. I can login to the domain on the samba server and the LDAP settings tab on yast2 samba configuration tool tell me that samba and the MS LDAP server can communicate with eachother. I can see the shares on the samba server but i can't autenticate myself. When i whant to logon than see i always "domain: domainname.local" and "access denied". My question is now how can i give the MS administrator account rights to view the shares and configure the rights for the other users.Samba config file

First, like a dummy I did not backup the Samba config file before making changes. Using openSUSE as ftp and http server, was following tutorial to share between openSUSE and windows. I was using VNC to access machine to edit Samba config file, after altering the the file VNC authenication fails. I can still authenicate locally and through the ftp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm extremely new to SuSE Linux. I wanted to move away from Windows and so I decided to reload my Desktop with SuSE linux.I have had no trouble until now. I'm trying to connect to my work VPN connection. From my laptop (which unfortunately is Vista) I'm able to connect without any issues. However, when I tried out the KVPN application on my SuSE linux, it just doesn't work. I get the error:
Authentification has failed.
As a side note, when I type ping google, the packets are received 100% but when I ping my company address, no packets are received. Hope this info is useful.
I set up the 'Proxy' from Yast and they tested successfully. I can connect to internet, but why am I getting 'ERROR 407 proxy authentication required'?
FYI, my comp is the part of company .NET network with bunch of firewall and security...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am posting this as I have tried several times to work this out. I have read article after article, post after post and tutorial after to tutorial to sort this issue. I have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine running as the LDAP and NFS server with two Opensuse 11.3 desktop machines. Both of the Opensuse machines can login using the LDAP server for authentication and this works fine. The server also exports the NFS Shares no problem but I am unable to mount the shares from the Opensuse machines. I have been using Yast, NFS Client to mount them.
Yast NFS Client can see the shares and lists them however when I apply the settings it states:
'Unable to mount entries in etc/fstab' I need to mount the shares according to the LDAP details as I want the users to be able to access their files no matter which machine they login at. Can anyone shed any light on the issue. Any help would be great and I would be enternally grateful as I am now beginning to pull my hear out slightly.
I have a problem with the NTLM proxy we use in school. YAST proxy configuration won't work, it just says authentication error. We have to login with the user in DOMAINuser style and a password, in Firefox it works.
View 6 Replies View Relatednew Install of 11.2 every time i boot i have to config network devices via Yast Control Center. I now have 8 eth configs for my one local net adapter. Why does the MAC address change each time? I cant use my routers built in MAC filter and MAC control functions if this keeps changing. So each time i boot i need to also go into my router and build a new MAC address profile based on the new MAC address before i get Internet access. Security to the point of no access...I hope this is just a bug in the system. I thought MAC addresses were firmware/device specific? What I need is one eth config that works each boot. And I need one MAC address that does not change between boots.

I've tried adding them like this:

IPADDR='192.168.1.2/24'
but it fails on ifup, thinking it might be the filename (the vlan tagging being picked up from the name) I tried renaming it but still no go.
I can add IP's via ifconfig, eg ifconfig vlan1:0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
and I'm pretty sure I could add multiples to the ifcfg-vlan1 file but how do I add them from individual config files?
I'll try not to be too wordy. Want to get my openSUSE 11.2 (fresh install) laptop to see my network shares ...not to be a server or share any files. I've looked at 50 websites and everything seems to be "server" and "share" oriented. Maybe I (newb) am confused by the terminology...
I have a router that provides DHCP. My LAN PC's consist of a Vista laptop, an XP DAW, and a Kubuntu file server. Somehow I got Kubuntu configured properly, all of the Windows machines can access it and vice-versa. The Kubuntu smb.conf does not work on this laptop, and it seems overkill -no shares needed here. And yes, I get DHCP and interweb on the laptop -posted this with it.
All I want is access to my (other) network drives from this (openSUSE 11.2) laptop. Not a server, not to share. This is easy... right? It's driving me nuts Is there a Samba configuration that will let me jump onto networks and surf Windows/Samba shares like any old Windoze box browsing Network Neighborhood? Do I have to be a Samba guru?

What I'm really curious about is there is an intial TLS connection with a 256 bit cipher, but then.. The last entry states "sasl_method=PLAIN" - so surely this is not encrypted? Or am I misunderstanding how it works?
