Slackware :: Intel 82865g Current Glxgears Slow?
Nov 22, 2010
When i checked last time couple months back glx gears gave me 1400 frames around now i get
Code:
glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
21 frames in 6.6 seconds = 3.160 FPS
2 frames in 5.6 seconds = 0.359 FPS
84 frames in 5.8 seconds = 14.362 FPS
149 frames in 5.0 seconds = 29.724 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.814 FPS
and everything is running slow im wondering where the problem might be?

Im having a battle for quite some time now with lastest intel driver now and wondering if someone has solution. Ive checked :[URL].. and i decided to have exact same version of everything listed in there installed on the system.
I have few questions since i manually builded xorg-server 1.8 im wondering what packages are dependent for x11 to be upgraded so everything run smoothly for xserver 1.8. are those xf86-input* and xf86-video* the only one or there are other packages that i have to get rebuilded? the second question: im wondering if im the only one for that having a problem of that lastest driver dosent work for me, for the purpose i rebuilded the driver and libdrm 2.4.20 with kms enabled once i installed xorg-xserver 1.8.0
heres log problem:

Is it practicable to run Slackware 13.0 32-bit, Xorg and Xfce on Intel 82865G video hardware? In case it matters, the 82865G is on an Intel D865GSA motherboard. Robby Workman says in this LQ thread "The 82865 chipset almost certainly isn't going to work with Xorg from Slackware 13.0. Stay with 12.2.". Netsearching suggests the alternatives are non-trivial.

I'm trying to get full 3D acceleration working with an Intel 82865G Integrated Graphics chipset on my Arch install. I'm wondering if it's possible to get it to work with xf86-video-intel, as I can't seem to get the Intel-provided drivers to compile. As also stated, I have to xorg.conf to speak of, so I can't exactly go in and simple edit lines, unless I wrote it from scratch, which I'd really rather not do, LOL. I've tried Google (including their special Linux search mode), and LQ Search, and I can't seem to find information that's relevant enough to me that I can use. Here's glxinfo (only the (hopefully) relevant portions):
Code:
[root@archie mrcode]# glxinfo | grep -i "direct rendering"
direct rendering: Yes
[root@archie mrcode]# glxinfo | grep -i "renderer"

I upgraded one of my laptops from 13.0 to current yesterday. I has an intel graphics card:
Code:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
After all the package upgrading, removing obsolete packages, running lilo etc, I rebooted and I was really taken by surprise. Apparently, this certain intel graphics card doesn't work right with KMS. The boot process starts, I get to see the two tux twins and a few lines of boot messages, but as soon as KMS kicks in, everything goes completely blank. It doesn't crash or freeze or anything, the boot process continues, but it's all blank.
What's completely weird is that I have another laptop, which reports exactly the same graphics card, but KMS works fine there with current!
Anyway, I did some google search and I found that it's a common problem. There was a suggestion to remove any vga=... lines from lilo.conf, but that didn't help at all. Adding nomodeset to my boot options, disabled KMS, and I was able to boot to init 3, just like in 13.0. The problem was that then, it wasn't possible to launch X, because the intel driver that is included in current requires KMS to work!
So, after trying out a few different versions of the intel driver, I found that anything from 2.8.x and down wouldn't compile and that anything after and including 2.10.x require KMS. The only versions that would work are 2.9.0 and 2.9.1, which seem to have an identical effect here. They both work, but I have artifacts using my favorite mouse cursor theme, I get a black box instead of the mouse cursor. Not a big deal and choosing another theme fixed that too.
What I'm thinking is that probably more people will have the same problem and nothing is more frustrating than a completely blank screen. Maybe it would be a good idea to keep the 2.9.x versions of the driver in /extra. That and perhaps also add a note in the UPGRADE docs about adding nomodeset if you have an intel graphics card and you get a blank screen.

I am using the most recent -current (that fixes the libpng "ratness" described in the ChangeLog 8-) and the Intel Framebuffer setup is annoying me. I specify vga=normal in LILO and to my knowledge I am not asking Intel Framebuffer modules to load at boot (and intelfb is blacklisted).
It's annoying because it makes the text microscopic. However, the machine works great in -Current so I can't complain. Graphics work fine and so does X, it's just annoying.
This is my Sony Vaio VGN-C140G detailed here: url
I had tried previously blacklisting inteldrmfb as well (the -Current release right before the libpng fix) and that made no difference.
I found all binaries with "intel" in their name and read the manual pages but didn't find anything useful for possibly manually setting the mode back to something equivalent to vga=normal.

I upgraded to -current last night hoping to improve my Intel 845G graphics controllers functioning in X, I've had to use the vesa driver for stability. The upgrade was completed but KDE seems as slow as ever. Here's some snippets from Xorg.0.log:
X.Org X Server 1.7.5
Release Date: 2010-02-16
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Slackware 13.1 Slackware Linux Project
Current Operating System: Linux speedy 2.6.33-smp #2 SMP Sat Feb 27 20:12:16 CST 2010 i686
code....
It seems I'm still using the vesa driver, any ideas on why the intel isn't being used and how to fix it?

I just installed Debian Squeeze a couple days ago and haven't had any problems so far except trying to get 3D acceleration to work with my Radeon 5770 card. When running glxgears, I get over 900 FPS and the gears are spinning great. When I try to run a 3D game like OpenArena, ScorchedEarth, or FlightGear, they are all so slow as to be unplayable. (extremely slow)
I've been trying to get this working for a while and had no luck.As per internet advice, I installed firmware-linux-free and firmware-linux-nonfree.
In glxinfo, it says "direct rendering: yes"
In my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file it says:
(WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled
(II) RADEON(0): Acceleration disabled
(WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa
(WW) Falling back to old probe method for fbdev

I have spent the better part of 2 days perusing these forums for assistance. Here is the short story:I run a 7 year old custom build with a 82865G Intel Chipset and a NVIDIA FX5200 graphics card. Had been running a sluggish XP and after adding 2GB of fresh RAM wished to start fresh with my old friend, Ubuntu.
I've tried 10.04 LTS with and without my NVIDIA card installed with no luck. I have successfully installed 10.04 using the alternate install, but this also goes to black. I can hold shift to see GRUB and play around there, but no luck so far. I've also tried 9.10 but have not gotten past the pulsing Ubuntu image. I've seen plenty of support for NVDIA and Intel onboard graphics chips suggesting boot commands like nomodeset and i9015.modeset=0/1...it's all falling short.
I'm heavily leaning towards just installing an earlier LTS or a different linux distro all together. If there no one can help me debug, maybe someone can suggest a distro that will make me happy.

I know this is a rather too generic thread, but bear with me so I can try to explain it... I use Slackware64-current almost exclusively both at work (95%+ of the time) and at home (all the time! Even the wife has growing tender feelings for Slackware! ).At work, my box is a HP dc5850 microtower (CPU AMD Athlon Dual Core 5200B with 4GiB RAM DDR2). It's a pretty decent work machine. At home, I built from parts an AMD Phenon II X4 965 with 8 GiB RAM DDR3 - it's an awesome machine!
In both computers I have recently installed Slackwarew64-current and have applied the multilib packages from AlienBob (great work, btw!).I'm a Java developer and have created a directoy under /opt for all the software I need for work (JDK, Apache Ant, Apache Tomcat, Apache Maven, etc). All settings are exported in /etc/profile, which is posted here. But, occasionally, I feel the whole system (on either machine) to respond very slowly, like there's some sort of process eating up all resources. Considering what I have "under the hood", that's quite annoying

I am running Lucid Lynx and have only noticed this problem in the past couple weeks. Before Lucid I ran Jaunty & Karmic on this same box, although I installed Lucid as a clean install. My problem is that up to 5 or 6 times per minute my networking card drops its connection and then has its connection re-established. I have an integrated Intel 82566DC gigabit card on an Intel Motherboard DG35EC connected to a 10/100 network and am running the 64-bit version of Lucid. I've done some considerable searching on this problem and although I've seen many references to similar problems dating back several years, I have found none that seem to have any solutions that do anything for me. I never had this problem under any prior version of Linux on this box (all prior versions were also 64-bit).
In short, this block of messages repeats in my messages log:
May 18 20:18:50 mark-desktop kernel: [10121.062129] e1000e: eth0 NIC Link is Down May 18 20:18:52 mark-desktop kernel: [10122.730873] e1000e: eth0 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX May 18 20:18:52 mark-desktop kernel: [10122.730876] 0000:00:19.0: eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO
Most of the time I don't even see that the connection has gone down. Sonetimes everything seems to be operating fine for a half-hour or more, although it could be dropping out and coming back really quickly all of the time. Sometimes it goes out for 10 seconds.Sometimes it goes out for many minutes and I can get networking back by killing disabling networking and then re-enabling it. It's quite annoying.
I'm sorry if I'm duplicating an existing issue on this forum, but I can't find this exact problem anywhere. Does anyone have any clever ideas about how to fix this?

I recently upgraded to slackware-current from Slackware 13 via slackroll, and have only encountered one problem. My file manager no longer thumbnails images, and icons (mostly PNG) aren't appearing no matter what GTK theme is set. Running from the command line produces no errors, and when brought up in something else (say feh /path/to/icon.png) it works perfectly. This is the only hitch I have encountered so far. The same thing happens with emoticons in Pidgin. Does anyone know of a fix?

First time I've done this in awhile Upgrading my Slackware64 -current VM, following the standard routine that has always worked in the past -
Code:
slackpkg clean-system
slackpkg install-new
The clean-system removed 2 packages -
util-linux-ng
eggdbus
Installpkg will no longer work, complaining that the rev command is not found. The problem hit with the removal of util-linux-ng. I cp'd util-linux to ~/. Extracted with tar and executed the doinstall. Fixed.

I've upgraded Slackware-13.1 I had installed to Slackware-Current using a local tree I had download with mirror-slackware-current.sh script, but when I rebooted I could not get the graphics to load. I think it's because I've also modified /etc/groups and add an username after audio: and video: group, but I forgot that and had to remove slackware from the machine.

I've tried a few different ways to install the ATI graphics driver "fglrx" to get 3D acceleration. If I try to install using the standard file "ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_64.run" from the ATI web site it appears to work but then I discover it actually got an error.I saw a reference to ATI requiring 32-bit libraries to install their 64-bit driver. Is there a link or post that explains how to add the 32-bit libraries. Will that solve the problem, or will I just waste more time trying that?

I use Alien Bob's mirror-slackware-current.sh with an excludes.txt to only download the parts of current that I want. Unfortunately it is not working for part of the exclude.txt file and I am at a loss to know why.
The excludes.txt is
Quote:
slackware64/e
slackware64/f
slackware64/kdei/kde-l10n-ar-4.5.5-noarch-3.txt
slackware64/kdei/kde-l10n-ar-4.5.5-noarch-3.txz
[code]...
This ignores e/ f/ y/ testing/ pasture/ source/ and usb-and-pxe-installers/ It also ignores most of kdei/ and /extra It is meant to ignore most of extra/source and just download the source for flash-player-plugin, but it is ignoring all of extra/source/, however the same syntax is working for kdei/ and extra/.

I have been using slackware since version 10.1 and really like it. I have never had a problem until lately, version 13.1 has been stable as a rock for me. The first 2 or 3 updates to current ran well but then the problem started. After installation Slackware would get to the splash screen and bring up the first picture of a disk drive then just hang and never go any further. I do have a good burn on the dvd, have checked the md5 and burned at 4x. then slack 13.37 does the same thing. this is on 4 different computers with several different video boards.

This is not an earth-shattering issue, but, something I've recently noticed with the Chatzilla add-on for Seamonkey in Slackware-current. Maybe it is just my problem. If I add Chatzilla to FF 4.0 everything works as expected, that is, when I launch Chatzilla the default start-up window shows up with a list of IRC servers to click on (freenode being my favourite).
However, when I click on Chatzilla in Seamonkey I get a blank window that shows up, there is no server list. I noticed that the window in Chatzilla went blank for Seamonkey recently after a -current update (maybe a library issue?)

I wish to do a fresh install of Slackware without KDE. I could use my Slackware 13.1 DVD but I thought, why not give -current at try? Is there a -current ISO or must I install 13.1, without KDE, and then upgrade to -current? Or, is it possible to remove 'all things KDE' and then upgrade to -current?

Is there a way to boot any current kernel without the nolapic flag on ICH8-based intel T7300 systems? This system works fine with the last 2.26 kernel from FC8, but due to EOL of the security updates I tried to install FC11 and FC10. The first sign of trouble is that their installation only works with acpi=off or nolapic options. As those options disable either fan-control or the second cpu-core I consider them undesirable. Is there a recent correctly working kernel available? Or do I have to downgrade to a distribution that uses a 2.26 kernel?

I am experiencing very slow speed with the Intel 5300AGN on a Dell Studio XPS notebook and the iwlagn driver. I'm using Fedora 12 with all the latest updates available. When connecting to a G network with WPA2 security, everything goes fine at "normal" speed. When connecting to a N network with WPA2 security, the download speed falls between 0 k/s and 20 k/s max. The connection speed (as stated by Network Manager and iwconfig) is between 0 kb/s (?) and 11 Mb/s during the same session. I'm can't connect through ssh or download with scp (stalled). Web pages take a lot of time to render.
When connecting to the same N network on Window 7, everything runs fine enough. Every N network I try is the same story. Works fine on windows, badly on F12..
