OpenSUSE Network :: Port Forwarding Not Working - Tests Using Netcat

May 17, 2011

I have two SUSE(2.6) virtual machines running in the same subnet with two network cards each as shown below.

VM1------------------------------------------------------------------------------
appstage1:~ # ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0C:29:22:5A:24
inet addr:192.168.128.12 Bcast:192.168.128.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::20c:29ff:fe22:5a24/64 Scope:Link

Ultimately my DB will run in VM2 and any DB requests coming in at 2055 of VM1 should be forwarded to port 2055 of VM2. Since I do not yet have a DB running I am trying to test with netcat.

Jun 11, 2009

After many modifications, I managed to install ns2.28 , but some validation tests failed. I got the following message at the end of validation test:

validate overall report: some tests failed:
./test-all-simple ./test-all-tcp ./test-all-testReno ./test-all-newreno ./test-all-sack ./test-all-tcpOptions ./test-all-sack-full ./test-all-tcpVariants ./test-all-LimTransmit ./test-all-aimd ./test-all-greis ./test-all-rfc2581 ./test-all-sctp ./test-all-tcpHighspeed ./test-all-frto ./test-all-friendly ./test-all-srm ./test-all-realaudio ./test-all-ecn ./test-all-ecn-full ./test-all-quickstart ./test-all-hier-routing ./test-all-lan ./test-all-mcast ./test-all-vc ./test-all-mixmode ./test-all-red ./test-all-adaptive-red ./test-all-red-pd ./test-all-rio ./test-all-vq ./test-all-rem ./test-all-gk ./test-all-pi ./test-all-cbq ./test-all-schedule ./test-all-jobs ./test-all-intserv
to re-run a specific test, cd tcl/test; ./test-all-TEST-NAME

Notice that some tests in webcache will fail on freebsd when -O is turned on. This is due to some event reordering, which will disappear when -g is turned on. I tried to run the test individually one after another, but that is too time consuming, it prompts for permission after every test and thus runs many test & opens a lot of xgraph window. The tests I run so far individually, agreed with the reference output. Now I am wondering, should I report a bug about it, or should I hire a kid to run those failed 40 tests( which require hitting the ENTER key 1200 times, maybe ), or what else should I do.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: USB Mouse Failing On New Motherboard?

Dec 25, 2009

System: OpenSuSE 11.0Mouse: Microsoft Intellipoint OpticalI'm having some troubles and am in need of any assistance you can spare. I've recently upgraded to an ASUS A8N-SLI, SuSE transitioned over smoothly as I set the system to mount via volume/disk labels; it booted up perfectly although, naturally, I needed to run SaX2 to reconfigure the X server. After I did this, I logged into my desktop and after about a minute the mousetopped responding. The lights would still light up upon movement however the cursor would not move unplugged and reinserted the device however it would not light up.

I have tried the mouse on my Windows disk and my other Windows computer and it works fine. I have already tried reconfiguring SaX2 andremoving the mouse0 file from /dev/input yet the problem still persists. In fact, I'm navigating the forums with a keyboard. After the mouse fails, if I try testing a new SaX2 configuration, switching virtual consoles or doing anything which would switch resolution the computer locksp and displays s screenful of coloured, fuzzy lines. I imagine this has something to do with an X configuration somewhere, I'll post my X configs here.

Code:
# /.../

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Audio With The MSI H67MA-E35 Motherboard?

Sep 15, 2011

Just installed opensuse 11.4 using a new motherboard, the MSI H67MA-E35. According to the book that came with the Motherboard it has a Intel H67 chipset and a "HD audio codec integrated by Realtek ALC887". Also have an older Hauppague TV card installed in the system. Not setting the sound quality I would expect. By this I mean that the audio played by webpages is low. And the audio played by the TV card is distorted. The volume control is ineffective. The only way I can adjust the volume is by the control on the speakers. Perhaps it is just as simple as setting opensuse to use a different soundcard?

I have run the script also-inso.sh and the results were uploaded to: [URL]..

CentOS 5 Hardware :: USB Sound Tests OK But Not Used By Apps

Sep 22, 2009

I have a USB sound card that works sometimes with Firefox and with the VLC media player, but in the middle of a Gnome session it drops out and the sound starts coming from the internal card. In the Gnome Sound Preferences USB Audio is still selected and the test sounds still come loud and clear from the USB card, but the applications are ignoring this and have switched to the internal card.

Some system components are:

Centos 5.3 x86_64
Toshiba laptop AMD Turion
Roland UA4-fx audio interface sound card
Gnome 2.16.0

The Gnome Device Manager shows the UA-4fx card and under it "USB Audio ALSA playback" and "USB UA4FX ALSA Control Device" devices are listed. I want to make the USB card the default for all applications and have internal card take over only when the USB card is unplugged.

OpenSUSE :: Advanced Processor Affinity Practice?

Oct 27, 2010

Am investigating processor affinity theory and practice, am somewhat surprised at the paucity of information on something that has been a part of many Windows Enterprise type applications for more than a decade and although I haven't investigated would assume is supported by big iron UNIX.What it is Processor Affinity is the *NIX terminology for "soft" assigning a process and its threads to a specific processor core. On multi-tasking machines and particularly those which run heavy loads it can be useful to "advise" the Scheduler to isolate/assign heavy loads to a core separate from other processes. I also have a specific situation where I would like to run more than one instance of a specific app, but cannot when sharing the same processing environment.

What I've found so far By default, any and all processes are assigned an affinity that permits running on any and all available processors. The taskset utility can be used to modify the affinity for any process, which means that once an application/service/process has been launched, only then can the affinity be modified. It seems that the RH platform may also have a utility called tuna which might provide some tuning capabilities in addition to setting affinity but does not seem to be in the SuSE repositories and I cannot find source. Is there a reference or utility that can launch an application with a specified processor affinity?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Building A New GNU Boxen With ASUS P6X58D Premium Motherboard?

Jul 6, 2010

I'm starting to spec out a new GNU/Linux boxen. I'm considering the ASUS P6X58D Premium motherboard. Has anyone had any experience with this board in terms of compatibility with openSUSE 11.2/11.3? I'm mainly concerned about:

on-board sound: Realtek ALC889
ethernet: Marvell 88E8056
new interfaces: SATA3, USB3.0

being able to use: AHCI (which I had to turn off on a netbook, Acer Aspire 1410, for hard drive stability), 64-bit kernel I'm planning to use an i7-930 or i7-950 (should the price drop in August as rumored) with 6 GB DDR3 1333 RAM (not planning to overclock, as yet). The graphics card will probably be an NVidia GT240 or so (budgeting about $100 for the graphics card).

Also, I'm hoping to move some old IDE drives over using IDE->SATA 1 bridge cards. Any advice on this? Or should I just get a new SATA 3 drive? For the optical drives (DVD RW/CD RW), I'd like to use bridge cards since there's no benefit for the higher speed SATA interface, or is there?

P.S. For the naive question: As I haven't dealt with 64-bit installs before... I would need the 64-bit kernel for full access to all the extra address space, correct? After that, I can still run 32-bit apps, with a slight speed penalty?

OpenSUSE :: New MB And Processor And Gzip/bzip2 Does Not Work Anymore

Jun 22, 2010

I am using suse for a long time but I did not yet experience this strange error:

I installed 11.2 and now 11.3RC1 on a new HW: ASUS M4N72-E with AMD Phenom2 X4 965, 8GB Memory, standard settings.

I experienced unusual errors when copying large files to the new system with scp/ssh (connection broken).

Even stranger I could not read .tgz files created on the older machine, same OS 11.2, but MB ASUS M2N32-SLI with AMD Phenom X4 9850

Testing further reveals that if I create a .gz file from the same source it produces every time a different output:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3875041280 Jun 21 01:51 wwtest.tar
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1326141906 Jun 21 01:55 wwtest1.tar.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1326137319 Jun 21 03:26 wwtest2.tar.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1326146273 Jun 22 07:32 wwtest3.tar.gz

[Code].....

I never saw something like it, I guess it must be something with the underlying library not working on the new processor. I tried with slower memory speed, newest BIOS etc ...always the same errors. Other wise the system works absolutely stable.

When I compare the generated files with one created on the older system it looks like there are single bits missing in a random number of bites.

And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found).
