I tried to listen mp3 on in, but it was too silent (of course, I tried to put speakers to be louder).. I switched to winXP (as a second OS) on this computer, and sound volume is ok, so I suppose it's problem in OpenSuse... I have ASROCK N68C-S UCC motherboard with nForce 630a sound chip on it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgaded my system last weekend with a Gigabyte GZ-X58A-UD5 motherboard, i7 processor, ASUS EAH5770 video card, and 12 GB RAM. Sound has been erratic since then. It generally works for a short time after a reboot, but after awhile (within a few hours) it stops working properly or even completely. I've tried several different settings in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, but nothing I've tried helps.
I am running Kubuntu 9.10 64-bit.

I'm testing a rather old motherboard (PC-Chips A31G) with both Ubutu Karmic and Lucid, everything seems to work fine but video playing.
I tried flv, mp4 and mpg with both mplayer and totem, but I can only get sound with no video, well, not a black screen but a deformed image (I don't attach an image because every attempt to capture the screen gets a black or transparent video).
I already installed ubuntu-restricted-extras package witho no luck.
What I don't understand is that, if I switch to another motherboard (using the same HDD), everything works perfect. I guess it's a problem with the motherboard's video chipset, but would like to confirm this and know whether there is a solution.

I can't hear any sound in Debian with my new Asus motherboard . In Windows i have no problem.
Linux was reinstalled from scratch and speakers are connected to the green port of the motherboard.
I tried to find a solution all around the web without success.

Got this new motherboard and it's running 11.4 of Opensuse and it works great. Even got the DVI working with the monitor with help of instructions I found here. However the sound is poor and the volume controls just as bad. According to the motherboard docs it has THX Tru Studio sound pro, a Intel H67 (B3) chipset. Six audio ports. And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found). According to the Alsamixer it says HDA Intel PCH and the card and chip is set as PulseAudio. What should the sound card be set to other than Intel?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust installed opensuse 11.4 using a new motherboard, the MSI H67MA-E35. According to the book that came with the Motherboard it has a Intel H67 chipset and a "HD audio codec integrated by Realtek ALC887". Also have an older Hauppague TV card installed in the system. Not setting the sound quality I would expect. By this I mean that the audio played by webpages is low. And the audio played by the TV card is distorted. The volume control is ineffective.The only way I can adjust the volume is by the control on the speakers. Perhaps it is just as simple as setting opensuse to use a different soundcard?

I have a new setup, computer has only been running a couple days. The sound card is onboard, on a P7P55-M mobo. Kernel version is currently 2.6.18-128. There is no sound at all coming from the speakers.

I don't get any sound with any version of Lenny on my new ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard. However the sound works fine when I boot from the Debian Live 60 Alpha1 AMD64 KDE DVD. I can always wait until Squeeze is released and then do an upgrade but I'd like to get the sound working now. Any suggestions?

I have suse 11.4 installed and I wish to replace the on-board sound chip with an add-on sound card. The following are available at my local shop but they cannot advise whether any will work on Linux Suse 11.4.

I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.

I have configured my sound drivers many times. After doing this i am able to listen a sound. But after booting there is necessary to configure them again. So is there a any way for permanent configuration.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is a problem that I have had since Ubuntu 8.04 when the sound on my system stopped working. I have an Intel DG33BU motherboard with audio onboard.
I originally had 7.04 installed on the system (sound worked fine) and did an upgrade to 8.04 for a couple of reasons and found the sound no longer worked.
I have since upgraded to 10.10 and despite trolling various audio threads have yet to get the sound working again. I have noted that when the system boots up there is a quick message (approximately from memory) 9.32.0061: audio codec not found for hda-intel.
Is there a troubleshooting guide or information someone can point me toward as I would like to solve this problem?

how to i get ubuntu to use my on board gfx card because it can't find it. games that run super fast in windows are bogged down(and proably rendering using the cpu) and it was enough for cube and cube 2.any command i can use to scan for the mobo card or is it called something totally different than a VGA
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot. All went well until I upgraded the video drivers for the nvidia chipset on my motherboard. If I leave Gnome to start with the single user i created i get a black screen and 'mode not supported ' message on the monitor. BUT if i drop to root and 'startx' all is well and i can adjust the various screen resolutions and they all work well.
At this point i created another user name to check, and that works fine also, but if i drop back to the original user i get no screen unless i select 800x600, although all the other resolutions work fine with root and the other user name. Im stumped as I presume there's only one xorg.conf file for all users.
I have installed VLC player on my desktop(suse11.1) its playing video files and audio files but no sounds.
