I just did a scan with lm_sensors, rebooted to apply the settings. Did nothing different than I have in the past except including the GPU sensor. Now the mouse pointer and the cursor seem a little jerky. Occasionally they don't immediately respond, less than a second but noticeable. I also had to adjust the mouse speed after applying the settings. Anyone know what's up here? I have a GEForce 8400 card.

If I just take the mouse and scroll left and right over the desktop, the mouse is "jerky, choppy, randomly freezes, erratic". It occurs all the time. Trying to be more focused and select an object is challenging.

I have another virtual machine with the exact same setup running openSUSE 11.2 x86-64, kernel 2.6.31.5-0.1, and the mouse is not "jerky", but I have no wheel support. Comparing logs and config they look alike. I turned off all desktop effects.
I just changed my graphics card. The computer came with an nVidia GT220 which has no Linux driver. I installed the proprietory ATI driver and get the full screen resolution - so static images look great - but anything moving (scrolling screens, movies, moving windows on the display, etc.) is very jerky. One click up on the scroll bar of a text based web page took 7 seconds to jerk its way up. Then I tried the drivers at [URL]. The result was slightly better but only just. The computer is a Dell Studio XPS i7 Core, with 8GB RAM running oprnSUSE 11.1. Movies are unwatchable unless I make the window very small - less than 800x600. If I boot Vista moving images are fast and clear.

Just installed openSUSE 11.4 which comes with KDE 4.5. It has taken a while for me to find my way around and I am still trying to change settings so that VLC is default multimedia app rather than Amarok or similar. how to turn off the jerky dimming effect which was being applied when I close a window. Out of interest does anybody know what memory and cpu overhead these effect costs and how many lines of code? More to the point does anybody know who needs them?
When using Dolphin with column view does anybody know how to have the left margin shown rather than the right. As it is now, with long files names, the right hand end of the filename is shown and to see the directories I have to use a slider to scroll back to the left. I do not recall this being the case before. It used to be that the long file name was cut off unless one scrolled. In that way you could see all the directories and when moving files life was simple. Now this is not the case and actions take longer.

I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running 9.1 Karmic Koala UNR and recently (over the last week or two) the system has been running somewhat slowly. The boot is still lightning fast, but opening up programs takes a second or two, it can sometimes take a second or two for menu's to respond to mouse overs.
I've noticed the problems in applications as well. Streaming media over firefox (and I have a 40GB landline, I don't do lag) appears jerky as if skipping a frame or two while sound carries on almost as normal.
Netbeans (I have crash issues at the moment) also runs slowly, alt-tab takes a few seconds longer than every other program.
General Windows are just slow to load (one to three seconds) and menu's take a while to appear (2-3 seconds on mouseover or click)
Usually Ubuntu is lightning fast, I by no means have top of the range laptop...sacrifices have to be made... it's a simple Acer notebook.
klamav KDE doesn't work. It won't download updates. So, I want to make a one-click scan. I'v been using shell installers from nvidia. I know the sequence I use in the terminal to get it running. There should be way to do this from the desktop.

Every time I do a avgscan, it runs for 20 to 60 min, and then causes the PC to reboot. The only thing I can find is the following event in the /var/log/messages:

I get this result every time I try to do a virus scan. I also have seen this result once when doing a large scp transfer from another Suse box. The AVG log just terminates and gives no warnings as to what's going wrong.
Are there any other logs I can check out to try to troubleshoot this further???
I tried to decipher the info on the opensuse site about networked scanners but it's not clear to me and I don't see anything in the forum here that addresses the question, so here goes. My PC is an opensuse 11.3 box. My Epson CX9400 is attached to a Windows 7 PC at the other end of the house.
The PC's can talk and can access shared files nicely. It will print perfectly from the Windows box or the Linux box. It will scan perfectly from the Windows box. BUT I cannot scan documents from the Linux box. Have installed XSane and Image! Scan for Linux and neither one seem to find the scanner. I tried adding it manually in YaST and it doesn't seem to find it either.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been using Ubuntu 10.04 for about a month and generally the graphics work fine (I have a Radeon 2600 XT graphics card and have installed Catalyst Control Centre 10.7).3D games such as Nexuiz work fine and I can generally play different types of video but when I try to play HD video it gets pretty jerky. The same files play fine in windows so I'm guessing it's a software/driver issue. I've read various related posts to this and after typing 'top' into the terminal, I can see that playing the video takes most of the CPU processing resource up, which I as I understand, suggests that most of the work is not being offloaded to the GPU.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an odd problem with a copied DVD. I started with a commercial DVD and created an ISO file. The ISO file plays perfectly with VLC. I take the ISO file and burn it to a DVD+RDL without error. The burned DVD will not properly play on my computer or DVD player. It loads, but the menu is jerky and full of video block artifacts. The menu does not function properly. I tried this more than once with different software, including going directly to the DVD. I am using a drive that worked before, with the same stack of DVD+Rs that I used before.
Here is where it gets interesting: I can take the non-working burned DVD and copy it to a new ISO file. The new ISO file works fine with VLC. Obviously the data is getting properly copied from the source DVD, and it must be good on the burned DVD, but it won't play properly.
my all-in-one Epson scanner does not work. I tried to install the iscan drivers (free and/or proprietary) via repository and/or via Avasys website, but nothing happens: the scanner is not recognized. I use Gnome and openSUSE 11.2

Just done a Debian Squeeze install after being sick-to-death of Ubuntu crashing. I have tried several different browsers, and all of the have an annoying scrolling action when I scroll down the page.As it's not browser specific, can I assume it's something like X-windows? This is annoying enough to get me to use another distro.

The Screensaver looks fine in the preview window, but if I click the Preview button (full screen), my screen becomes jerky and slow. My screen savers worked fine in 8.04. I recently upgraded and I began having this problem.

It will echo a few, then stop for a moment, then it echos all the keyboard entries from the time it stopped responding all at once. Anyone have any ideas on why this started happening? This happens from any computer I use to connect. It happens with Putty and SSH Secure Shell.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to scan documents (OpenSuse 11.1) with any of the available tools (such as scanlite, kooka, or xsane), I can only scan in color. Moreover, the result is basically unusable. I shows a turquoise background of differing intensity at various places. Why isn't there a possibility to scan black and white, grayscale, etc.? Seems like scanning still is a problem in Linux. I really don't want to have to "fall back" to M$-Windows for scanning, but that seems to be the only solution at the moment

When I scan the blue led comes on solid and goes back to blinking afterwords but nothing is found. I did try another adapter and the bluetooth worked. BTW The Bluedevel application is real nice and works much better then the kdebluetooth app,
This is probably the 1 millionth post about WIFI issues. I have tried many sources on the internet but cant get my wireless to work. I have been using another version of linux for long time. But recent edition of that particular linux does not support my wifi any more. Just recently i have tried SuSE and almost fell in love with it. The only problem, WIFI.
I got a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi stick which uses RT2800USB native driver. I installed SuSE from the scratch and it found the wifi stick installed the drivers. My only problem is it does not scan for wireless networks. I haev two wifi networks around here. I can connect to them with windows computer with the same wifi stick.
I have tried iwconfig iwlist ifup but i am stuck exactly what to do.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo for the last, oh, three or four hours now, I've been trying to get videos to play properly in Ubuntu. I have the default player, I have vlc, I (apparently) installed mplayer, but it won't play anything at all.
I was having horrible screen tearing with standard definition .avi's in vlc, fixed that by setting vsync in catalyst control center to always on or whatever it is.
Now, I have tried to run a 720p x264 video. It PLAYS, but not well. Audio is fine, however video is all jerky in VLC, and in Totem it's just a mess of screen tearing (although the video does no jerk on that player).
I have just spent HOURS trying to get VIDEOS TO PLAY. This makes no sense. Playing a video should be the simplest thing in the world for any OS to do, but with Ubuntu it is like pulling teeth. I have NEVER been so frustrated while using a computer. What is going on here?
BTW, I installed every single thing needed to use mplayer but it still does not work. The player comes up but will not play any type of file.

3 o 4 days ago I installed KDE 4.6 from KDE 46 repository and I upgrade my OS and some applications like Amarok. I had some problems so I erased .kde folder and reboot my computer. KDE 4.6 works fine and fast (in my opinion, faster than KDE 4.5) but I have problems with Amarok 2.4. When I try to scan my music collection Amarok don't find any song. I have a NTFS partition in my computer and I have all my music there. I mount the partition since fstab and in 6 months I didn't have any problem. I can use Clementine for exmple and scan all my songs perfectly, but not Amarok.

Network manager did not recognize the NIC out of the box (still doesn't) so I started trawling the forum and I've read both wireless 'stickys'.
