Will i be able to boot openSUSE and other OS on same disk after replacing main board. i wish to set raid 5 but lack additional sata ports on main board. The boards have same pci, audio and graphic hardware.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Eclipse and am trying to create a launcher for it in the main menu. I finally figured out that a .desktop file needed to be made in /usr/share/applications, but I can't get the icon to show up. For the "Icon" field in the .desktop file,tried giving an absolute path to an icon in my home folder, and I also tried putting the icon in all the folders under /usr/share/icons and just putting "eclipse" (the icon file name) as the valueI had copied this last from some of the existing .desktop files that worked, but still had no luck. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have finally ditched Ubuntu/Mint after 2 years and have now installed Fedora 12. I am excited to give it a spin. This was the first version of Fedora that finally recognized my intel graphics card.
I have 2 questions:
1. How do I edit the fedora/Gnome main menu? When I left click on Applications, etc. I am not given that option.
2. How do I change the login screen?
Whenever i try to apply a new theme .. everything seems to be ok except the gnome menu ... sometimes when applying icons, depending on the theme you can see it has applied almost everywhere except when u go to "Places" the icons there in the gnome menu is still on default.. have a look at the screenshot here..

some friendly voice starts speaking as well.

I am trying to switch from the video device built into the mother board, to a card i just put into my machine. I'm using gnome and don't know where to start. I shouldn't need new drivers (based on a possible misunderstanding) because I am going from a nvidia 6100 to a 8600. I have looked in various places like the control center but haven't had any luck. I just started using linux and have very little experience in the terminal. Issues with the current card are stopping me in my learning process.

However, the on-board sound no longer works now. I don't know how to set it up in phonon. My device number 0 in phonon is MCP72XE/MCP72P/MCP78U/MCP78S high definition audio, and I assume this is my nVidia on-board sound card. The driver information states snd-hda-intel.
How can I check what is wrong with it? It did work fine on 11.2 right up to the 11.4 installation. I do get system sounds (like the start-up and shut-down sounds), but nothing from any application, e.g., firefox playing a video. Based on the advice from another thread I tried: speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav This does not produce any sound, but gives the following information: speaker-test 1.0.24.2

View 1 Replies View RelatedIve been running crunchbang on my system, and yesterday decided to try opensuse so i can install the novell client. I ran the live gnome cd and during installation I shrank my main partition down and created a new partition for opensuse. Installation went well other than sometimes programs close and make the part of my desktop that they occupied useless.
Question 1) I can see my crunch bang files through opensuse but i cannot find or boot into crunch bang.
question 2) Why are these programs closing and then killing my desktop? Say i have a Firefox in the top left of my desktop and it errors and closes. I go open Firefox again, anywhere that the old Firefox window was in ( not click able). My cursor will turn to the text cursor as soon as it enters the x y position. I have to restart the laptop to be able to click file or insert a web address.
