I reduced my system font sizes from default 10 down to 8, but I want to also reduce the height of the Main Menu correspondingly. I've searched the forums and Google, but can't find a method for doing this. See the screenshots - both menu heights are exactly the same, but if I reduce the font size, I'd like the menu to shrink too.

I've got one but I just can't get it to change i've tried gconf, i've tried going to /usr/share/icons/gnome/places and change the icon start-here.png and tried some other ways does anyone know how to change it in Ubuntu 10.10 preferably not using gconf.

I have finally ditched Ubuntu/Mint after 2 years and have now installed Fedora 12. I am excited to give it a spin. This was the first version of Fedora that finally recognized my intel graphics card.
I have 2 questions:
1. How do I edit the fedora/Gnome main menu? When I left click on Applications, etc. I am not given that option.
2. How do I change the login screen?
I downloaded Eclipse and am trying to create a launcher for it in the main menu. I finally figured out that a .desktop file needed to be made in /usr/share/applications, but I can't get the icon to show up. For the "Icon" field in the .desktop file,tried giving an absolute path to an icon in my home folder, and I also tried putting the icon in all the folders under /usr/share/icons and just putting "eclipse" (the icon file name) as the valueI had copied this last from some of the existing .desktop files that worked, but still had no luck. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have a HDD with 250 GB, where 170GB is for Ubuntu and around 40 GB for Windows and a Swap that is 6 GB. This Swap seems a little too big, so how o I edit its size (make it smaller like 3GB) and then add the "free space"-leftovers to the big Ubuntu partition ( / )?
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I installed some of the MS Office 2007 fonts onto my Ubuntu 10.10 machine in order to use them. Unfortunately, a few of them look really blocky at font sizes smaller than 16 pt. The two i'm having issues with are Calibri and Cambria. I don't seem to have this issue with any other set of fonts. Here is a screenshot of the issue in question. I remember having this same issue on 10.04, before I upgraded, if it means anything.
By the way, I took the fonts from a windows machine, on which the fonts were working properly.
I would like to use the Adobe Garamond Pro in my text doccument in open office writer. I got a text document where from a friend where it is used so I know that it can. But when I want to edit I cant find it in the fonts dropdown menu.

I think some of the browser fonts changed as well, but I know I can change them in the options menu.

Also, I am a little lost. Where is the menu? I can't find system settings. How do I edit launchers on Dock? What command do I have to use in order to restart the panels? (on 10.10 I was just killing the gnome panel and it restarts by itself)

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter doing an update a couple of days ago (had previously upgraded to 5.6), the font size in firefox (file forward reload, etc), terminal and the panel (using xfce) are significately smaller. Searching the web, mail lists and the forums have not resulted in finding anyone else with this problem. I did notice that glibc has a bug that is currently being worked on at Redhat but it is unclear if the font problem I am seeing is related. Note also, that the initial upgrade to Centos 5.6 was successful.

Five months ago, there was about 3.9GB free space of root, but now it is only 1.6GB. I always run sudo apt-get autoremove and sudo apt-get autoclean every time the update is finished, and also use Bleachbit to clean the system, but both are useless.
I never faced such problem with older versions of Ubuntu, is there any measure to fix it?
