As the title says I have a problem with Windows 7. After installing openSUSE 11.2 on my Dell v1320 laptop Windows cannot initialize the device driver for its display adapter ( Code 37 ). The Dell Touchpad also couldn't start (Code 10). I have reinstalled an older version of the Touchpad driver from Alps and it didn't work. I also tried system restore but that didn't work either.

1.Prevent the display from turning off (getting black) after 1 minute. Of course I checked the energy management configuration, but that has no effect at all.
2.Turn touchpad tapping off. I read Synaptics Touchpad - openSUSE, but the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not exist, but only /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install (or is it the same?). Also, there is no section with "driver synaptics" in it. Its content is

I was wondering if anyone else ran into and issue with 11.3 with an IBM x3650 server using the embedded graphics card. As a reference this exact machine was working under 11.2. I am aware that there were significant changed in how video works in 11.3.
While installing and during the initial start of the operating system I can see graphical output, OPEN SUSE logo and such.
During the boot process the screen goes blank. The server is still running and I am able to ssh to the machine, but there is no access to the console.
Below is a segment of the /var/log/boot.msg that shows some errors. I can provide more logs if that would assist in tracking this down.
I did a quick google search on ES1000 and i2c and saw the same errors reported with Ubuntu version but nothing for OPENSUSE. There seemed to be a bug that was fixed in that kernel.

This is a new install and the machine is not yet in production so I have the option to experiment with it a bit.
I'm trying to install an external graphics adapter for dual-monitor setup, and according to the installation instructions, the driver is libdlo, which requires libusb v0.13. When I follow the installation instructions, I got an error saying I don't have libusb on my OpenSUSE 11.2. The exact installation instructions is as follows:
Prerequisites:
* Install a compatible libusb version (0.13)
* on ubuntu - "sudo apt-get install libusb"
* Plug in a compatible DisplayLink USB device
To start the build process, open a shell prompt (as the user who's home directory the libdlo is installed into) and change to the libdlo directory to run
$ ./configure
$ sudo make install
$ make check
Make check will do some basic drawing on the DisplayLink device. The 'sudo make install' step will have installed libdlo.h, the main header, in your local include directory, and libdlo in your local library.(The error message comes out at $ sudo make install).
I noticed it mentioned Ubuntu, does this mean that it will only work in Ubuntu and wont work in OpenSUSE? I'm not familiar with those commands in the instructions above, I can only guess them but don't really know what each line of the instruction does exactly. If libusb also applies to OpenSUSE, how can I get it installed on my system?
The "Check if already posted" brings up no results. I've installed Ubuntu 11.04 with Wubi on my Window7 Home Premium laptop. No problems, except that I can't find "System" to make adjustments, specifically:
(1) Disable touchpad (it is disabled in Windows7).
(2) The display is only using about two-thirds of the screen (11.6" Samsung X120). In the Windows7 setup I do have the resolution set at 125% because the fonts are terribly small otherwise on this quite high resolution display.
During the installation I was not taken thru settings screens for things like language, video, like I have been on the very rare occasions I've installed a Linux OS onto its own partition, presumably because Ubuntu 11.04 is being installed as part of Windows7.
I installed the nvidia proprietary drivers with click-install and everything perfect, I have desktop effects working but the problem is that when you open the config. screen settings to make sure everything was really good, I get to screen unknown April.
The maximum resolution is the correct 1440 * 900 for 19 "but the refresh rate by not recognizing the monitor down to 50hz me and gives me the option to 60hz as it was before installing the nvidia drivers.
How can I fix the display settings?

Before being an Ubuntu user I bought a startech USB display adapter which alowed me to use a second screen. It was working on Windows XP.Now I don't know what to do because ubuntu seems not recognising the peripherical.
I am sure someone knows the way to get it.
After compiling the 2.6.36.2 kernel and re-installing the Nvidia proprietary drivers, my touchpad has started to act strange; the cursor seems to glide a lot faster, yet more erratic and when I try to hover over an icon the cursor wont stay still, furthermore I lost the ability to 'click' on anything using just touchpad.
I have checked dmesg and Xorg.log for any clues, as well as removed everything with the exception of the card and device section from my xorg.conf. The issue has nothing to do with compiling the new kernel, as it was working perfect until I installed the Nvidia driver.

I use the bios to dual boot between two disks, (1) this op sys and (2)win98se - where I have a driver that fully supports the nvidia.
The disadvantage to my current situation is that there are some programs - eg Evolution - that assume I can see more than you see with this setup - eg the buttons at the bottom of the screen do not appear and i have to do a trial and error tabbing to get what i want. I just downloaded openoffice and i see that it wants 1000x2000 or so. Thus I wont even try to install it unless i can resolve the adapter thing.
I'm very happy with this fedora - use it for software development. But as I become more fond of it, I would like to use it instead of windows - which I can't unless i can see the whole screen
At one point - in response to a suggestion that I download security updates - I did so and got 2.6.32.12-115.fc12.i686. It was incompatible with my config - put up a screen that looked like a tv test pattern and went into a loop. So I went back to 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.
I wanted to install Ubunutu on my laptop and it currently has windows vista installed on it and installed using latest Wubi. I selected Ubuntu from dropdown menu after the system restarted. But when the sytem shows the username page to login the KEYBOARD and MOUSE are not responding.

I am using ndisinstaller in openSUSE 11.2 to re-install a Windows driver. This is equivalent to ndisgtk in Ubuntu and is a GUI to help installing Windows driver via ndiswrapper. Note that you have to locate the .INF driver file in Windows partition, not Linux partition, or else ndisinstaller won't work. When I open ndisinstaller as root, it asks me if I want to re-use an "existing instance of ndiswrapper" or eliminate this manually.
If I choose "reuse existing ndiswrapper instance", the driver installation works but writing the module seems take forever. So my question is how do I eliminate an existing instance of ndiswrapper by hand? Please note that prior to using ndisinstaller, I have already removed any existing drivers and ndiswrapper modules to make a clean slate.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS. My laptop is an HP Pavilion TX1210AU (TX1000 series). After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

I have a KeySonic 2.4Ghz Wireless Keyboard with Integrated TouchPad which I am trying to get to work.
Now there are some reviews saying it works straight out the box on Linux. This was almost the case for me.
The keyboard works straight away but the touch pad doesn't work at all not even the mouse buttons

I just found out that many Synaptics touchpads are capable of multi-touch and it's possible to do 2-finger scrolling and more.I have enabled this functionality in windows and I am sure now that the touchpad inside my laptop is capable of that.In Fedora 13 (64-bit), however, I was unable to make it working. I found a guide for Linux (Ubuntu) right here:URL... In Ubuntu it multitouch worked without problems after following the guide.
I first thought that I screwed something up on my Fedora and downloaded/ran live Fedora 13 64-bit disk to see if this trick will work with Fedora intact. After trying that guide in live Fedora CD I quickly found out that I couldn't enable multitouch the same way as on Ubuntu.I have no idea what could be different. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 9.10, which I just now installed on my Dell Dimension 3000. The computer has all of its USB ports working perfectly; tested in Windows. I plugged in my SMC USB Ez Connect g wireless adapter, and it isn't even recognized by the system. I used lsusb, and nothing except the USB keyboard and mouse shows up. Every time I boot or shut down, I get tons of errors saying that it's "unable to enumerate USB device on Port...," then the port number of whichever port I plug the wireless adapter into. I've tried using ndiswrapper, and have completely installed the Windows drivers using that (which were the same ones that worked perfectly in Windows XP Pro). I've tried looking into compat-wireless and Linux Wireless, and have successfully installed the zd1211rw drivers and everything. The drivers install completely and work, there is just no hardware present, or so it says. This is what the terminal says when I type dmesg, and also part of what shows up on booting and shutdown:

I have found instructions but they are not working. I am new to Ubuntu and have only had a few classes that dealt with Fedora and CentOS. So I am rather new to Linux in general. The drivers say they are compatible with linux kernel 2.6 and later so I am going to assume they should work with ubuntu--am I correct in this assumption? If so, when one installs anything in ubuntu should one be set as the admin?

On my desktop, I have Windows 7. I just also installed ubuntu on a partition in order to dual-boot. The installation worked fine, however now I cannot use the internet on either os. I have a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller On Windows 7, the LAN flashes from "Enabled" -> "Identifying" -> "Network cable unplugged". It does this on a seemingly continuous loop. When I disable it, it will not let me enable it. It says it can't start.
