Ubuntu Networking :: Installing DWA-130 USB Wireless Adapter?
Feb 13, 2011
I'm trying to use a D-Link DWA-130 wireless adapter with my desktop running Ubuntu 10.10. I've been scouring the forums (and google of course) and really can't understand why it's not working. The output from "iwconfig wlan0 is:Code:wlan0 no such deviceSo here is where I ask the stupid question: must you have a wireless card in the computer to use a wireless usb adapter? I built the computer myself you see and was looking to save some money.
I have Ubuntu 9.10, which I just now installed on my Dell Dimension 3000. The computer has all of its USB ports working perfectly; tested in Windows. I plugged in my SMC USB Ez Connect g wireless adapter, and it isn't even recognized by the system. I used lsusb, and nothing except the USB keyboard and mouse shows up. Every time I boot or shut down, I get tons of errors saying that it's "unable to enumerate USB device on Port...," then the port number of whichever port I plug the wireless adapter into. I've tried using ndiswrapper, and have completely installed the Windows drivers using that (which were the same ones that worked perfectly in Windows XP Pro). I've tried looking into compat-wireless and Linux Wireless, and have successfully installed the zd1211rw drivers and everything. The drivers install completely and work, there is just no hardware present, or so it says. This is what the terminal says when I type dmesg, and also part of what shows up on booting and shutdown:
[code]....
I hope I've given enough information. Oh, and I downloaded Ubuntu a few days ago from their website, burned to a CD-R, installed, and downloaded all updates that it asked me to. Other than that and the ndiswrapper and driver installation, I've done nothing on the system.
recently I bought a an Asus n13 usb wireless adaptor. It came with the linux drivers installed and some brief instructions, but make failed and I don't know why. I am running ubuntu 10.10 (64bit) and gcc version 4.4.5.The error messages from make
Code:
[angus@angus-laptop 2009_0811_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.1.1.0_USB-N13]$ sudo make make -C tools make[1]: Entering directory `/home/angus/bin/drivers/2009_0811_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.1.1.0_USB-N13/tools' gcc -g bin2h.c -o bin2h
am running Ubuntu 10.04 ... only because for some reason that is the only version that will load onto my IBM pentium 4 desktop! I installed ndisgtk, ndiswrapper-common and ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 by using the Synaptic Package Manager GUI. Using Windows Wireless Drivers GUI, I installed the driver rt 2870 off the Belkin CD that came with the product. Status is "Hardware present: Yes"
here is the status of my lsusb and iwconfig:
finn@finn-desktop:~$ lsusb Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 002: ID 045e:008c Microsoft Corp. Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 006: ID 050d:935a Belkin Components
It seems I have ndiswrapper working (I think!) ... but i still can't connect my wireless.
I am trying to install a Star Tech PEX300WN2X3 wireless card but I'm completely lost. The installation Cd has 2 tar. files with the linux drivers but I'm just clueless as to what to do with them.
I have a desktop and I just installed ubuntu 10.04 as a dual boot with windows 7. My desktop has a wireless ZEW1642S card. I don't have access to a wired internet connection, but I can use the wireless on my windows 7 fine. It seems like there is no driver for it to work on ubuntu, and since I don't have an internet connection while in ubuntu, it seems I can't update it of course because I need internet to update. My wireless network does NOT have a password if that even means anything for this. I have the exe installer for the driver for it but I don't know how I'm supposed to get the INF file or whatever.
I have recently installed Linux Mint 10 on my laptop. When I look at the Device Manager in Windows 7, it says I have an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. Right now, I am unable to connect to wifi with Linux. What drivers am I able to install, and how would I install them?
I have a old mac G4 and I just recently installed ubuntu 10.10 on it. It doesn't recognize my wireless adapter at all so I get no wireless on the computer. I've never used any linux distribution in my life so I don't have any idea how to install drivers for it.
im trying to install the RTL8192CU_linux_v3.0.2164.20110715 drivers so my new wireless adapter works, but I have hit a wall when trying to insert the drivers after makeing them its telling me
I recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly. 2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page. 3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop. 4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb" 5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it. 6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed. 7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder. 9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present. 10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal
I have a Belkin Enhanced Wireless USB Network Adapter Model # F6D4050 v2. The drivers are for windows but the windows wireless drivers app doesnt work. I see a tutorial for a linksys that appears to have the same chipset, but I am not sure if any of the steps need to be modified, also my kernel is a bit different. Here is my kernel:
On my desktop, I have Windows 7. I just also installed ubuntu on a partition in order to dual-boot. The installation worked fine, however now I cannot use the internet on either os. I have a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller On Windows 7, the LAN flashes from "Enabled" -> "Identifying" -> "Network cable unplugged". It does this on a seemingly continuous loop. When I disable it, it will not let me enable it. It says it can't start. Also, I uninstalled and re-installed the driver for my ethernet with no change. On Ubuntu, when I try to do "ifconfig eth0 up" and "dhclient eth0" I get the message "No DHCPOFFERS received. No working leases in persistent database - sleeping."
installing this wifi adapter to my laptop runing lubuntu. i got this adapter to work in ubuntu with a realteck natty driver but when i tried the same here it did not work.
how to make a home network with my 2 ubuntu pcs and my lubuntu laptop.
I have installed ubuntu lucid 10.04 release, and i want to install a wireless adapter usb or pci in my desktop. Can somebody recommend me a model that works fine?
I have tried a couple of wireless adapters (USB dongles) but none of them work all that good on Ubuntu. I keep loosing connexion when on Ubuntu while on Windows (dual boot) there never seems to be any problems, so signal strength is probably not the issue. I bet it's a drivers problem so what I want to know is which adapters work really really good/great/fantastic on Ubuntu? The first option, wext, was chosen when I installed Wicd (running side by side with GNOME Network manager).
I've got a couple of old PC's running Ubuntu but I want to give them wireless capability and move them to a different room. What is the easiest wireles adapter to use? I'm thinking USB would be easier than opening the boxes to install cards, plus I could buy one adapter and try it with both PC's to make sure it works, then buy a second one once I know it works.
As I am struggling to get my Netgear WNP111 to work with ubuntu 8.10 ,can someone recommend an adapter that will work out of the box with ubuntu 8.10 .
I want to change to Debian from Ubuntu. But, unfortrantly, I have problem in installation.I want to install Debian 5 on my Dell optiplex 380 desktop. In the process of installation, the networking adapter can no be detected. My networking adapter is Broadcom Corporation netlink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe. It seems like that Debian 5 does not have the driver for this kind of adapter. What can I do now
I am trying to get the above wireless adapter o work with Ubuntu. I have installed ndiswrapper but I am unsure what windows driver I need that will work with it.
When I type lsusb I get the following: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0df6:0042 Sitecom Europe B.V.
I tried searching the ndiswraper site but all I could find was Sitecom WL-344 300N X2 Wireless USB Adapter that pointed me to Driver: rt2870.inf and rt2870.sys (on Windows XP).
I am not sure if this will work or where to download these files, so I was wondering if anyone else has this adapter that could shed some light onto how to get it working.
Edit: I just tried the rt2870 driver and it didnt work
My netbook have an internal wireless receiver, but from my room it doesn't work well, so I bought a TP Link TL-WN422G hoping it receives better. Ubuntu sees it but I don't know how to force using it.. I attach lsusb with peripheral in bold:
I've recently installed 10.04 LTS on an old laptop. I've not been able to connect to the internet at all. I finally finagled some drivers for my Broadcom BCM4318, and seemed to get everything in order, but it says that the "Radio hardware status changed to DISABLED"
Then, I pushed the button on the laptop to turn the wireless on, and it worked! But then as soon as I let the button go, it turned off. Is there some way to toggle it so it's always on?
I bought a USB adapter for my wireless connection at home. But there is no drivers for the adapters in ubuntu, there is only windows executable files. I am using ubuntu 10.04. I spend around 40$ for the adapter. Some one please help me how to work this out. Its NP910n netcomm adapter. I am using ubuntu10.04.
Previously I had my desktop hooked up to a nearby router via an ethernet cord with my parents' computer having a wireless usb adapter to connect (This thing: [uRL]). We just moved and our setup has reversed (router is near their computer, I am using the usb adapter). I just installed the latest Ubuntu and now I can't get the usb adapter to work. I'm very new to Linux and I have no idea what to do. I think this is the same usb adapter.
Recently I purchased for few bucks on eBay a wireless network adapter with name "EDUP 802.11N". This thread explains how to setup this device on Ubuntu. I inserted USB wireless adapter on Windows XP and it was recognized as "Realtek RTL8188SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter". Windows didn't have any problem to install its driver automatically but for Ubuntu I had to give some additional effort.
After that I went on Realtek official site (www.realtek.com.tw) where I found that this device is supported on linux platform, downloaded and compiled linux driver. This driver (kernel module) is for kernels from 2.6.18 ~ 2.6.33. Unzip this file and in "drivers" subfolder there is driver archive (tar.gz).
