CentOS 5 :: Update Firefox 3.0.19-1 Fail - "Missing Dependency: Xulrunner >= 1.9.0.19-1 Is Needed By Package Firefox-3.0.19-1.el5.centos.x86_64 (CentOS5updates)"
May 28, 2010
Today, I try to update firefox by Package Updater but show error by bellow. "Missing Dependency: xulrunner >= 1.9.0.19-1 is needed by package firefox-3.0.19-1.el5.centos.x86_64 (CentOS5updates)"
While i am using yum update am getting an error: Error: Missing Dependency: libgpod.so.0()(64bit) is needed by package rhythmbox-0.11.6-4.el5.x86_64 (installed).
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section. But when i start the Package Updater it get's a (Error resolving dependencies). The Details in the error are: Missing Dependency: liblzo.so.1 is needed by package mplayer Missing Dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by package lsdvd Missing Dependency: libcucul.so.0 is needed by package mplayer Missing Dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by package gstreamer-plugins-ugly
What do i do? I'm thinking i have to get and install/download these package's but cant find them tried regular searching the web and using Yum. Cant find any of them to install to fix this issue.
I don't know if this is the right place to do this so I will try. I have noticed a lot of posts around the web with the same problems, so I guess this is something that is common, you think it would be fixed by now but anyways. Almost constantly when I try to install a new package with yum in my system it almost always gives me a dependency error, this is the latest one when I try to install HTOP:
Error: Missing Dependency: rtld(GNU_HASH) is needed by package htop Error: Missing Dependency: libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4) is needed by package htop
I'm trying to install Dell Openmanage, which requires sblim-sfcb.Normally this wouldn't be a problem but it requires LWP::UserAgent to be installed. However there are no RPMs for LWP::UserAgent. There are RPMs for perl-libwww-perl-5.805-1.1.1.noarch.rpm, which people say should work. However yum doesn't see anything with libwww as an option so that won't work either.Running CentOS 5.5
Note: I do have LWP::UserAgent installed via cpan, however the RPM won't compile without the actual LWP::UserAgent RPM installed.
I'm trying to install Alsa Player in my CentOS 5.2 using add/remove software. I get the following error:
Missing Dependency: libsndfile.so.1(libsndfile.so.1.0) is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libjack.so.0 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libFLAC.so.8 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libsndfile.so.1 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libxosd.so.2 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libid3tag.so.0 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libmad.so.0 is needed by package alsaplayer
When I try to search the depencies using yum (yum search libsndfile), the result is : No Matches found.
Today I got update notification. I type in terminal yum update, and get this error: Quote: Error: Missing Dependency: libnetfilter_conntrack.so.1()(64bit) is needed by package iptstate-2.2.1-5.fc11.x86_64 (installed) You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
I removed iptstate.x86_64, again run yum update, and than, ibnetfilter_conntrack got installed. I tried to install iptstate.x86_64 again, but i get Quote:
I can't update centos 5.1 x86_64 from updates Is the correct repository [URL]? But I found this dependency (nspr >=4.6.99 ) inside the [URL]. I need to setup these two repositories ?

After several site:centos.org searches on Google and not finding anything remotely related to this question, I ask, how do I update Firefox 3.0 to Firefox 3.5 without losing any of my settings, history, bookmarks ,etc.?

I am trying to update CentOS 5.6 but its throwing me an missing dependency error.
Code: Missing Dependency: /usr/bin/rebuild-security-providers is needed by package java-1.4.2-gcj-compat-1.4.2.0-40jpp.115.i386 (installed) I checked /usr/bin and the file "rebuild-security-providers" is present in the folder. So i really don't know why is it throwing an error. I also searched LQ but no relevant results.
Trying to do a yum update to get everything to latest, towards the end it says this:

how to get around this? I tried yum clean all, then yum update, again but it did the same. I had other deps missing on other servers but yum clean all fixed them -- can't find anyone else who's had this specific issue either, nor an rpm called 'device-mapper-event' or the other things that are missing - am kinda stuck!
Recently I have installed Fedora 10. It comes with firefox 3.xx by default. Now I was wondering if there is any way through which i can update it to 3.5 version though yum. I have tried yum update firefox but it did not work and returns following messages Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update I know that one way to update is download the latest Tar package and use it, but I want to totally remove my previous installation and use solely one package i.e. firefox 3.5.
how to update these packages easily? I am concerned about the security using version 3.0 major security issues. Also, where can we get security updates for Centos 5.4?

Fresh instalaation of Centos 5.3 (32 bit machine). Got the Dag-Wier repos set up. Ran yum install videolan-client which found one missing dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by vlc.0.9.9-2.el5.rf.i386. Looking in /usr/lib, I find libdvdread.so.4.1.3 installed, but no libdvdread.so.3. I created a symboloic link libdvdread.s0.3 -> libdvdread.so.4..1.3 and rand ldconfig. Tried to install videolan-client again with yum but got the same failed dependency. how to get vlc installed?
I have recently upgraded ubuntu to natty. I'm using a ppa (Firefox Stable) and during an update using update manager it blocked on these lines:
Setting up xulrunner-1.9.1 (1.9.1.18~hg20110309r27352+nobinonly- 0ubuntu1~umd1)
This prevents me to even see other updates cause update manager says the index is broken. How can I solve this? I don't want to reinstall firefox because I'm worried it blocks again (now firefox works).

I recently deleted all my Software Sources that were under "Other Software" and all my "Authentication" because Mint kept updating my xulrunner to a new version which would disable Firefox-Smooth-Scaling.Therefore I deleted all my Software Sources that were under "Other Software" and Authentication, and forced Mint to only install the xulrunner which uses Firefox-Smooth-Scaling. Unfortunately, after I deleted the software sources and authentication, now I can't update my system properly and get error messages that keys are missing. I added some software sources back the "Other Software" (someone responded to a previous post of mine on which ones to add), and under the "Authentication" window I tried hitting "Restore Defaults", but it only added two keys. These are screenshots of my Software Sources windows.
Since upgrading to Natty I have a very annoying issue and since I am unable to resolveWhenever I start the synaptics package manager I get the following message:An error occurred:E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.Once I run sudo dpkg --configure -a from the terminal this is what I get:Setting up xulrunner-1.9.1 (1.9.1.18~hg20110309r27352+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1) ...No further progress the machine hangs indefinitely on this, need to kill terminal to exit. we are using firefox-3.0.15 from the CentOS-Repository and the adobereader plugin from the adobe-repository. We have a curious problem with adobereader-plugin in firefox. When a pdf document is displayed via the plugin, i.e. within a tab in firefox, all input fields are disabled. I cannot enter a search string or fill in fields. The cursor and page up/down keys are also disabled. But when I configure firefox to open pdf documents with the external acroreader, everything works fine.
Additional notes:* We are just migrating from SuSE. Some user profiles are working as expected without problems. Unfortunately, I was not able to figure out the important files: I traced all of firefox' file operations on the user profiles, but there are no significant differences between working and non-working profiles (I just compared filenames, not content).* the same adobe-plugin works with firefox 3.0.15 from mozilla.org* I also set up a clean i386-Centos 5.4 from original CD, SELinux disabled, updated and created standard user. I only added the adobe-repository. The same effect, no search avaible.
