I've got several Dolphin windows open which are deliberately carried through
from one session to another, so I can't see why it thinks I need a new one
each time I logon.
I'm using OpensSUSE 11.2, KDE 4.4.0.

I generally use dolphin as a file manager under KDE 4.4.1.
This is set up as a split window. Now, whenever I open dolphin, the right hand window is the "active" one. How does one make the left window the active one by default?
Like the title says, Dolphin spawns a second window when the search toolbar is enabled.
Does anyone else experience this, and is it normal?

I can't open files with anything using Dolphin as superuser. For example with Kate:

I'm using opensuse 11.4 64 bits on an amd 3 kernel. One day it's working fine and the following i't works all fine except konqueror and dolphin. When i try to open them it seem to be frozen (the application, not the system), but in the end they open after 3-4 minutes. Then they work well, but if i close them and open again, or if i open another window I have the same problem. Othe applications (for example firefox) launch quickly.

It works great except for one thing: When I open Dolphin in superuser mode and change the permissions to make myself the owner of those folders, the change doesn't take. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've installed ubuntu 10.4 and i've got a great wallpaper for a the background durring logon but the logon box (enter username/password) is covering up the focal point of the background.Is there a tool or something that lets me "easily" move the logon window? If not, is there a way to manualy edit a config file or something to move it to... the top left for example ( 0,0 ) or (100,100)?

I tried both of the below "solutions" and logged out and logged back in to openSUSE and it still uses EasyTag! Is it because I need a restart or is it something else?

If you need to to exclude one or mode user from your gdm login window you must edit "/etc/gdm/gdm.schemas" and add the user you want exclude from the <key> "greeter/Exclude" (near the other user in <default></default>)
When Fedora could have a gdm config again?
Running 10.04 64-bit. After logging on, the title bars around all the windows are missing. Adding "metacity --replace" as a startup command resolves the problem, but something's obviously wrong.
Doesn't occur on my other computer, so probably hardware related.

This issue exists with the Private Message popup in Firefox, which if I accept to open it the window is set to 100x100 (very small).
Now the complication. It never was like this. It's not a mozilla setting issue either because I tried a new .mozilla with the same results.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to set the default when clicking on a folder to open in new window? The default action appears to open in the same window. I've gone though every Dolphin option I can find, and there does not appear to be any setting that affect this. Konqueror DOES have a setting, but it seems to be ignored. I am running Suse 11.3, KDE 4.4.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded the motherboard/processor on my computer (as in quadrupled the processor and octupled the ram). The new board has a built in GPU (intel) and from searching the forums, I think this is part of the problem. Every time I boot up the computer, I need to open the Compiz icon and use it to reload the window manager before I see any title bars, borders, etc. 've tried the .bashrc hack (metacity --replace), but that doesn't do anything. In fact, whenever I open the terminal, I need to have two tabs open in order to use it, and when I close it all the borders go away again (even when I haven't done anything). Also, the onboard sound card (intel) doesn't work, but that's another task (I at least have a compatible card for that).
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy system boots, I login and am brought to my desktop. I click on the file system icon in the launcher to open a Nautilus window. The window opens, but is unresponsive (i.e., I can't move it, clicking on the icons does nothing, etc.). If I press the super key to get the dash and the press escape, the window becomes responsive again, just like normal.
If I open a folder in the window, the window becomes halfway unresponsive in that I can't move the window, but I can select more folders and toolbar icons. The top menu no longer appears at this point, and I can't access any of the system icons on the top right of the screen. Alt-F4 closes the window even if the close button doesn't work.As another example, suppose I open a Nautilus window and then a Chromium window. Both are immediately unresponsive. If I super-esc again, I can move the Chromium window around, and it seems to work normally. I can click on the Nautilus window, but it always stays greyed out. Even if I'm clicking on things in it, the Chromium window always has focus.
I had a similar experience to this with VLC and Chromium. After clicking around enough I eventually got it to the point where VLC apparently always had focus, but I couldn't access any of VLC's controls. Double clicking anywhere on the screen fullscreened the video, and that's all I could really do. Not even escape worked to bring it back.I can usually press super to get the dash and Alt-F2 to get a command prompt. Also Alt-Shift-T seems to usually work to bring up a working Terminal (at least one that accepts commands, even if I can't move the window).Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The behavior is highly unpredictable and extremely frustrating. I should note that key commands don't always work, even though they seem to in my examples. So I don't think it's just a mouse issue.
Our system is based on RH4 and is using pam_tally and faillog to record failed attempts and to lock users out after 5 attempts. We have a requirement to provide a normal (non-root) user logging onto our system, with information regarding the number of failed logon attempts made on their account before the current successful logon (similar to the functionality provided by HP Protect Tools on Windows). My first idea was to add 'faillog -u $USER' to the bashrc, however by the time the bashrc is run - the user has been successfully authenticated and the faillog has been reset back to zero.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhenever I double click on a folder on desktop it tries to launch it with VLC player... I think this is because I set the "open with" option for a folder to vlc and now it does this by default... the "open with" isn't there anymore in the right-click context menu and dolphin has no "open with" tab like nautilus under properties..is there a way to set this option in dolphin, or are there any other window managers in KDE4 that can achieve this goal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSometimes my user list is empty on start-up. When it happens the buttons beneath the empty list (shutdown, suspend and restart), are not responding. As a work-around I login to the first terminal as root to restart the machine and usually my normal user account appears back on the list. This morning the reboot work-around didn't work any more..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've installed oS11.2 on a test box and joined it to our office domain without a problem. It's presently using winblows domain for authentication.
I can login normally, but when I attempt to unlock the screensaver using my windows credentials I am told that my account is "locked out, contact admin..."
A quick look at AD shows that my account is indeed being locked out, presumably when the 11.2 locks the screen.
what's causing this and how I can correct it?
on the same SAMBA server, can I have a net logon profile for WinXP and another for Win7?

1. Server with ldap for authentication and autofs maps
2. Client machines have home directories on this server (nfs3) these machines also have some 'shared' directories on the same server (nfs4)
Now if I use a terminal I can always create files in the shared directories (subject to the relevant permissions) - I can also always save files in OO and the like. The problem is that Dophin sometimes has the create greyed out and sometimes it doesn't. So now I am at a loss as to why. This is 11.2 with kde 4.4.3 btw
After one of the updates (the same day as the kernel was updated) my Startup Theme has been changed from standard SUSE light-green to a dark SUSE EDUCATION.
I'm not talking about GDM logon (this is OK) and not about Bootloader screen (also OK).
I meant a progress of the SUSE loading.

I cannot use preview function in Dolphin to preview JPG files that the size is bigger than 3MB. It is no problem when the photos' size are smaller than 3MB. Do any one got the same problem?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed suse 11.3 and I have a problem in previewing images. Dolphin does preview the images, but they look corrupted. When I point with the mouse, images are shown perfectly on the information area on the right. I found that as I increase the preview size from the default 64 pixels to the maximum 256 pixels, most of the images are previewed correctly, but will only have 3 images per row
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone have any ideas as to why this is happening. I am able to start Dolphin normally either via keyboard shortcut or application launcher menu.
However if I close or exit out of the application I am then unable to open it again. Instead I get a bouncy icon and and spinning circle in the task bar and then nothing ......
Running a ps aux | grep from the CLI gives me the following processes that must be manually killed before I can reopen Dolphin.

any suggestions? I have tried disabling nepomuk and strigi thinking that might have been an issue but I still get the same problem. I also tried removing dolphinrc and dolphin from ~/.kde4/share/config and ~/.kde4/share/apps respectively... still no bueno.
