I installed VLC player in our Open SUSE 11.2. Installation was successful. After installation i can't able to open the VLC player as well as Dolphin. Within few mins Everything got hanged. I'm using opensuse 11.4 64 bits on an amd 3 kernel. One day it's working fine and the following i't works all fine except konqueror and dolphin. When i try to open them it seem to be frozen (the application, not the system), but in the end they open after 3-4 minutes. Then they work well, but if i close them and open again, or if i open another window I have the same problem. Othe applications (for example firefox) launch quickly.

I cannot use preview function in Dolphin to preview JPG files that the size is bigger than 3MB. It is no problem when the photos' size are smaller than 3MB. Do any one got the same problem?

It works great except for one thing: When I open Dolphin in superuser mode and change the permissions to make myself the owner of those folders, the change doesn't take. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two systems, one running 11.2 x64, and the other running 11.3 x64. on both systems, I've lost the ability to mount internal partitions "on-the-fly" from the Dolphin panel.Trying to mount via Dolphin has always given me this error on the 11.3 system, but only recently started happening in the 11.2 system after a recent "zypper dup" (using the "Stable" KDE 4.4 repo).If others are experiencing this same issue, please let me know so I can file a bug report. Please note that the error only occurs for internal partitions, and external drives work fine.

As soon as I was done installing and I was on a fresh desktop, I installed the Yast updates that were available, rebooted, and now I can't login to any of my User accounts. When I press OK, the system completes the start up and everything looks normal. But when I try to connect to internet, I get the following message:
KNetworkManager cannot start because the installation is misconfigured. System DBUS policy does not allow it to provide user settings; contact your system administrator or distribution. KNetworkManager will not start automatically in future. If I reboot the system, I logg in successfully. So far the problem has appeared approximately upon every second time I boot up. Rebooting the system seems to take care of it.

When I right-click on a file in my firefox downloads window and choose "open containing folder", it opens the folder in EasyTag. I tried both of the below "solutions" and logged out and logged back in to openSUSE and it still uses EasyTag! Is it because I need a restart or is it something else?

Whenver i try to copy files from my centos to pendrive ( 2gb, kingston datatraveller) my system is gettin hanged leaving no option then to reboot. i tried from the terminal also, and as a diffrent user also. but same results. sometimes i can copy files of small size. but when i go above 5 mb..system hangs..
I have a brand new install of 11.3, with all the updates, on a cleaned system, following some hdd and cable problems.
So far three problems have surfaced:-
1. Dolphin doesn't see and hard disks other than the root hdd.They appear on the left side in the list, but cannot be accessed as suse seems to have chosen not to mount them.I need them because they have my backup data on them.
2. At each bootup, I have manually to reset the required screen resolution. I need to prevent it defaulting to the wrong resolution every time.
3. I cannot now see my Windows workgroup at all. This is in stark contrast to another distro I've tried which found it and set everything up automatically. The workgroup has one WinXP machine on cable via a router, plus one Win7 machine via router and wifi link. I guessit failed to sort out smb.conf or something?
I'm trying to get Eclipse IDE running on my openSUSE 11.4 (KDE).
I have downloaded Eclipse Classic from Eclipse Classic 3.7 | Eclipse Packages. I started Dolphin and extracted the tar.gz file to a directory called eclipse. Now, as I understand, to run Eclipse, I must run the executable eclipse. But when I double-click eclipse, I get an error saying, "There is no application installed that can open files of the type executable (application/x-executable)."
Note 1: I have uploaded 3 screenshots as an album at Imgur: Eclipse with image titles and captions.
According to the screenshot #1, the file eclipse has a permission set of -rw-------. The execute permission is missing on this file. So, here's what I did: (screenshot #2) Right-clicked and selected Properties and under the Permissions tab, checked the Is executable checkbox and clicked OK. But still (screenshot #3), the permission set remains the same.
Note 2: The parent directory permissions are visible in the Terminal window below in all the screenshots.
What should I do to make eclipse executable?
I tried installing Ubuntu 11.04 (64bit) on my Macbook Pro 5.5, but it hanged during installation and now I cannot get the CD out. It hangs whatever I do. I looked at link [URL] and thought it would be ok to install after doing the partitioning. Is my Mac lost?
