Does anyone else experience this, and is it normal?

OpenSUSE :: Dolphin Open A New Window At Every Logon / Why Is Thia?

Feb 10, 2010

I've got several Dolphin windows open which are deliberately carried through
from one session to another, so I can't see why it thinks I need a new one
each time I logon.

I'm using OpensSUSE 11.2, KDE 4.4.0.

OpenSUSE :: Dolphin - Make Left Window Active?

This is set up as a split window. Now, whenever I open dolphin, the right hand window is the "active" one. How does one make the left window the active one by default?

OpenSUSE :: GNOME Spawns Windows Completely Invisible

Jun 20, 2011

I've been running openSUSE 11.4 for a while now and this issue is starting to get more and more annoying, as well as more frequent. Sometimes when I open an application, GNOME doesn't spawn the window but it will still capture mouse events and completely block the top left of my screen. It isn't until I log out and log back in that everything is back to normal.

It's like it starts up the app but just doesn't render the window. It started to do this with the terminal but now it's doing it with other apps like Totem. I am running GNOME 2.32.1

Ubuntu :: Change The Colour Of The Window Toolbar?

How can I change the boring grey of the Window tool bar in Ubuntu? I have tried "System>Preferences>Appearances", Compize, Emerald GNOME Colour Chooser and non of them allow me to change the tool bar colour. I have also done many extensive searches on forums, but I cannot find one topic on this adjustment. Lots about fonts, window boarders and so on. I can change everything else but the tool bar colour.

Ubuntu :: New Firefox Window Forgets Toolbar Settings

Feb 10, 2010

I use Kubuntu 9.10. All packages are up-to-date. The problem: When opening a new window in firefox, the new window forgets the toolbar settings. So when I start firefox and the first window shows up, it shows my toolbar settings correctly, which is pretty minimalistic actually (no buttons, bookmark menu, google searchbar, etc.). But when I then open a new window from the original one, the new window has forgotten my toolbar settings and shows all the buttons, the searchbar, etc..

This happens irrespective from if I hit Ctrl+N, or print firefox after hitting Alt+F2 (which just opens a second window since the firefox process is already running). What can I do? I read in some other post that you should delete some settings file that might have gone corrupt, but I have done this and it did not help.

Ubuntu :: Locked Toolbar - New Position For The Toolbar That Sits At The Top Of The Screen

Mar 30, 2011

I have been working for the last three months with Ubuntu 10 on a destop. Doing just fine and loving it. I decided to try a new position for the toolbar that sits at the top of the screen. I did a right click and moved it to the right side of the scree, didn't like the look of that. Right click on the bar and moved it to the left, didn't like that either, so moved it to the bottom. having done all that I thought I could put it back at the top but alas, I can not right click on the Toolbar.

It seems as though the two bars are fighting each other at the bottom of the screen.I would like to go back to the default position at the top of the screen. I do have a terminal window available to me on the desktop so if I could find out the command line to type in, I should be able to reset my tool bar. Being new I have no idea what this command would be.

Ubuntu :: Window Borders Disappearing When Compiz Is Enabled

Jun 28, 2010

We've all probably had this issue at one time or another.Window borders disappearing when Compiz is enabled. I'm on 10.04 with Intel GMA 4500M graphics. I would say about 30% of the time when I boot up the computer, I have no window borders. I use the Compiz Fusion icon just for this purpose, to reload the window manager and get back the window borders.Of course, the other 70% of the time the computer boots up with normal window borders. Is there a more permanent solution someone can provide than manually reloading the window manager on an as-needed basis?

Programming :: TCL Expect Script That Spawns A Telnet Session To A Nortel - Response In Expect_out Is Not Consistent

Dec 2, 2010

I have a TCL expect script that spawns a telnet session to a Nortel DMS100 to execute some commands. The strange thing is that the response in expect_out is not consistent. It sometimes contains a extra enter or newline. This results in differences in the expect out buffer. Here is a part of the script:

send "time
"
sleep 1
expect -re ">"

[code]...

This command displays the time. The correct output should be (with log_user=1):

>time
Time is 11:44:04
>

But sometimes the output is:

>timeTime is 11:45:04
>

As you can see here the is missing on the command that expect sends , or at least in the echo that is comming back. I use a split command to filter out the response in the expect_out buffer, but this fails when the is missing. Here is a example with the debug enabled:

[code]....

I suspect it has something to do with a slow response of the switch. I tried to send the time command slow and with the send_human but the result is the same. A timeout between the send and expect also doesn't help.

OpenSUSE :: Can't Find The Menu And Toolbar Preference Panel?

Mar 29, 2010

I'm running OpenSuSE 11.1 with the KDE interface and GnuCash 2.2.7. The GnuCash manual, version 2.0 (the latest, apparently) says:

GnuCash, as a Gnome application, also allows you to define your own menu shortcuts. To define a shortcut, first go to the "Menu and Toolbar" preference panel and select the "Editable menu accelerators" check box. Then return to GnuCash, click on the menu header and move the mouse pointer over the menu item. While the menu item is highlighted, press a key or key combination to set the shortcut. You should now see your shortcut choice next to the item in the menu. To delete a shortcut, press the Delete key while the menu item is highlighted. Be careful when setting shortcuts as Gnome does no checking on the key values pressed, and you can easily do things like set a letter of the alphabet as your shortcut.

But I can't find the Menu and Toolbar preference panel. There's a Preferences section in the Edit menu, but that has nothing I can see about shortcuts. So how do I set shortcuts, or even see a list of shortcuts that are already there?

OpenSUSE :: 11.2 With KDE 4.4.3 - Dolphin And NFS Shares

Jun 11, 2010

This is the set up
1. Server with ldap for authentication and autofs maps
2. Client machines have home directories on this server (nfs3) these machines also have some 'shared' directories on the same server (nfs4)

Now if I use a terminal I can always create files in the shared directories (subject to the relevant permissions) - I can also always save files in OO and the like. The problem is that Dophin sometimes has the create greyed out and sometimes it doesn't. So now I am at a loss as to why. This is 11.2 with kde 4.4.3 btw

OpenSUSE :: Dolphin 1.5.9 Won't Restart / Why This Is Happening?

Aug 29, 2010

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening. I am able to start Dolphin normally either via keyboard shortcut or application launcher menu.

However if I close or exit out of the application I am then unable to open it again. Instead I get a bouncy icon and and spinning circle in the task bar and then nothing ......

Running a ps aux | grep from the CLI gives me the following processes that must be manually killed before I can reopen Dolphin.

icarus@linux-xjxa:~> ps aux | - Anonymous - xbswAMYR - Pastebin.com

any suggestions? I have tried disabling nepomuk and strigi thinking that might have been an issue but I still get the same problem. I also tried removing dolphinrc and dolphin from ~/.kde4/share/config and ~/.kde4/share/apps respectively... still no bueno.

I am running KDE Trunk repos on 11.3 x86_64

OpenSUSE Network :: Mounting A Cifs Share As Normal User In OpenSuse 11.4?

Apr 2, 2011

Q: How can I allow my users to mount a cifs share without an entry in fstab in OpenSuse 11.4?

I have an answer myself. Until OpenSuse 11.2 I could mount my samba shares by making mount.cifs and umount.cifs setuid root. Today I installed OpenSuse 11.4. Unfortunately mount.cifs isn't anymore allowed to be setuid due to security concerns. Security is not an issue in my case, so I copied the mount.cifs and umount.cifs from 11.2 to make it work again:

1. Download cifs-mount-3.4.2-1.1.3.1.x86_64.rpm from this repository (I use 64 bit):
2. Extract the files mount.cifs and umount.cifs from the rpm and copy them to /sbin
3. Make them setuid root:

Code:
linux-y5qw:~ # chmod u+s /sbin/mount.cifs
linux-y5qw:~ # chmod u+s /sbin/umount.cifs
4. Mount your cifs shares as a normal user:

Code:
martin@linux-y5qw:~> /sbin/mount.cifs //192.168.2.2/data /home/martin/data/ -ousername=martin
Password:
