View 2 RepliesI have installed it as per the instructions on the OpenSUSE help guide (Wine - openSUSE). When I try and run iTunes setup from a terminal at the root login, using this code:wine /home/louise/Download/itunes64setup.exe
I get this error: linux-eqln:~ # wine /home/louise/Download/itunes64setup.exe Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64) errrocess:create_process starting 64-bit process L"Zhome\louise\Download\itunes64setup.exe" not supported on this environment wine: Bad EXE format for ZhomelouiseDownloaditunes64setup.exe getting iTunes up and running or just syncing an iPhone in OpenSUSE
I bought an iPod classic and am currently looking for alternatives to replace iTunes on openSUSE. As far as I understand the following are to be considered: Amarok, Banshee, Floola, gtkpod and Yamipod.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using itunes on Windows to listen to different radio shows and I am interested if there is any application in openSUSE that can automatically read the link to the podcast as it is present on apple's page.I found a way to play the podcast thru Amarok but I had to convert somehow the link from apple to some xml that Amarok can understand. I'm thinking maybe if there is something more straightforward.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIm trying to setup multiple domU through the default bridge setup. I am able to access only one of them through the network at a time. If you ping one of the domU it works perfectly but you cannot ping any of the others until you stop pinging the one and even then it takes a bit before you can. Ive looked around for a while and seen similar problems but nothing ever seems quite the same. Im probably missing something really stupid. Or is this the way the bridge is supposed to behave? Do i need to use a routed virtual network?

I have tried all kinds of DNS services. Like opendns, Google DNS, 4.2.2.x, Scrubit, DNS Advantage. In my experience none of them are consistent enough & there is a fluctuation in their performance.A guy told me to try enabling DNS cashing on my openSUSE box.I don't know much about DNS caching. So, I want to know
(a) Will enabling DNS caching improve my Internet experience ?
(b) Is DNS caching enabled by default in openSUSE 11.4 / How to find out ?
(c) If not enabled by default, how do I enable it ?
With new installs of openSuse 11.4 I've hit a printer problem. I can run hp-setup (or hp-toolbox) for the wireless Officejet j6410 and it is recognised. The right driver is selected. Then when I choose add printer it all falls over with the error message: error: Printer queue setup failed. Could not connect to CUPS Server Is user added to "lp" group(s) error: Fax queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.
The user is added to the lp group. I have this problem with my 64 bit desktop and 32 bit laptop installs of 11.4, it all worked perfectly in 11.2. I've used the Cups web interface to set up the printer now and can print from both machines, but I would prefer to use the hp-toolbox, which has several convenient features. Where do I go from here?
I'm looking for the best iTunes alternative that has almost these features:
- being able to edit the track's name/album (songs in the iPod)
- adjusting volume of tracks
I'm currently using Rhythmbox. I have tried Exaile and Amarok just doesn't work for me. I can't recall what made me turn away from Banshee, too. I'm not really into Wine so installing iTunes itself is not viable.
Can someone tell me how to get iTunes for Ubuntu/Linux that actually works?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI just got a new iphone (yay me) but later realised that as I have Ubuntu, it is very difficult to get itunes installed on it.
Having said that, I've got Wine installed and attempted to download itunes 7.something and even though the whole process worked, it appears that when I try to access itunes the whole screen goes black and then if I scroll across the screen with my mouse it lights up various bits of what's behind the black screen and then after a while it tells me that it cannot access itunes at all...
So I thought, perhaps I should uninstall itunes, but in doing that it still appeared in my wine folder, so I uninstalled wine, which still appeared in my Applications list, so I edited my applications list and then tried to re-install wine from scratch (I know I sound dumb already - but I was desperate ok!!!). So now wine is installed on my computer somewhere but it now doesn't show up in my Applications list at all and I can't seem to get it back on there - any suggestions there would also help...
But my main objective is to try and uninstall itunes properly (maybe from the terminal window - but I don't know how to even do that) and attempt to re-install it to see if it works again.
I need to do this in order to sync my iphone. Cannot seem to do it with Amarok as I don't have Installer.Apps on my iphone, and cannot get THAT without syncing it with itunes to begin with....
I set up opensuse 11.4. I updated nvidia 6600 drivers from vendor. Everything is good until automatic kernel update. When I start the system, opensuse is not open with this lines.

bash: ./etc/sysconfig/chron : cannot execute binary file

I would like to remove openSUSE (11.3) from my dual boot (/Windows) system. In the old days, the install CD used to have an option for that, but now my DVD doesn't have anything, or perhaps I overlooked?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that I need to move a moderately complex system from an old system to a new system. The old system is a core 2 duo running on an asus p5k-se (p35 chipset) M/B, Nvidia 8500 gt, 3 x sata II hard disks, 1 x sata dvd, 1 x ide hd, 4GB ram. It runs opensuse 11.1 kde 4 as a desktop system + samba server, apache server, database server + other non-opensuse software. In addition some of the opensuse software is not the default 11.1 versions as later versions were required. The nvidia driver is from the nvidia repo. There are several file systems, some under LVM.
The new system will be a core5 760, asus p7p55d-e M/b (p55 chipset), nvidia 240, 3 x sata II HD, 1 x sata dvd, 4GB ram and possibly 1 x ide HD. This M/B also includes USB 3 & sata III. I have no USB 3 devices but this may eventually change. I have no plans for sata III and believe that it may be better to attach any sata III SSD to the sata II bus.
What I would like to do is to move the hard disks from old system to the new system. What I would like to know is, if the system is left at 11.1, is the system likely to work with the new hardware. If the answer is no, if the system was upgraded to 11.3, would the transfer of the hard disks then work? In order to upgrade from 11.1 to 11.3 using the DVD i believe I should get rid of all non-default repos. I assume that I should also get rid of anything that was installed from them, e.g. the nvidia driver and any software versions installed manually outside RPM. Also is there any default 11.1 software that should be removed either before or after the upgrade to 11.3
I tried to search the internet to find out the documentation for setting up rsh on my opensuse 11.1 but was unable to find one. So i 'm posting this to help others. I know it is preferrable to use ssh instead of rsh but oracle requires use of rsh. So please dont get back to me saying "use ssh".Note to moderator: I tried to add this to "how to" section but in vain due to "no permissions error".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm new to openSUSE, this is the first time i try to install openSUSE version 11.4. on my IBM Thinkpad T43 (on which SUSE Linux version 8.0 has been running before without problems). I have downloaded the ISO images and successfully burned the ISO images on a blank DVD. Having placed my openSUSE DVD in the drive and rebooted my laptop I can see the boot screen.
I then select installation with arrow up/down and press enter. Choosing language and keyboard layout works fine, as well as accepting the license agreement. However, when it comes to 'System Probing' the installation stops at 'Search for system files'. The cursor shows a little turning disk but the rest of the screen is blocked.
I use release 11.2 and this one works very well. I try new release 11.3 and my system crash when I wont to start system on runlevel 5. There is Sempron 2 GHz CPU and nvidia fx550 graphics card. Keyboard PS2 does not responds but mouse on USB work well. When I start "safe" boot option system work well. What I can to do ? What I must change

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed SUSE onto my computer because I'm sick of Windows crashing frequently.
Now I'm trying to setup my hardware, seems like everything is fine except for my graphics card.
I have an NVIDIA Quadro FX 540, and I'd downloaded the suitable driver from their site.
However, upon installation, I received some kind of error that mentioned it can't find my kernel.h or something like that. Someone said I would need the kernel source to proceed.
What is the best way for me to set this up?
Here is my system info when uname -a is ran: Linux namid 2.6.27.7-9-default #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100 x86_64 x86_64x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm using gnome 2.28 on opensuse_x86_64 on hp dv9000. Cannot remember (last time I used this was 10.3 w/KDE) how to remove icons, etc. so that each workspace (I use defualt 4 each) has a different "set-up" IOW I don't want default icons and such on each workspace, but don't see a means to do this in gnome-control.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've never really bothered about installing themes etc., to KDE and I've always just used the standard KDE setup so I am a bit of a newbie when it comes themes. But I was out the other day with a mate and he had got his Macbook and I quite liked the Bottom of the screen quick launch bar they have. Is there a program or widget I can install to KDE 4.4.4. So I can have a Mac style quick launch bar? And hopefully something that wont use to many system resources.
