I am having trouble in configuring xorg.conf. I am running Suse 11.3 desktop on my PC. Also, I have one onboard nvidia graphics 6150SE and I have put one nvidia 8400GS 512Mb in the 16X PCIe slot for the additional seat...

(By which I mean I have two keyboards, mice, and monitors, that will act like two separate workstations.Hardware-wise I have a GeForce 210, which has multiple monitor outputs. Keyboards are one PS/2, one USB, mice are both USB. OpenSUSE Install :: 11.1 With KDE 3.5 - Screens Found But No Usable Configuration
Dec 27, 2009I previously used 11.1 with KDE 3.5. Since I have /home on a separate partition I decided to install 11.2 from scratch to avoid any conflicts with KDE 4 installing. No problems on first reboot and some updates were installed. Now at each boot I'm dropped into text login. If I try <startx> I get <no screens found> and /var/log/Xorg.0.log gives <screens found but none have usable configuration>. However if I add vga=952 at the boot screen (for a 1280x800 laptop) I get into graphical login and everything works well (yes even KDE 4). Below is an snip from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Ubuntu :: How To Get Multiple Screens Setup
Jun 3, 2010I was wondering when and/or how to get multiple screens setup and working in unison. Currently I have 3d rendering working but all of my screens work as separate desktops. They all have their own start menu and panel bar. I cannot move a window from screen to screen. I have to open a new window in that screen and then it is stuck on that screen and can not be move any where else. When is this going to be fixed because until it is unfortunately Micro Slop will still have my business. I am a power user and enjoy my 4 screens when they work in unison, not as individuals.

OpenSUSE :: Single-card Multiseat: Xephyr Freezes?
Aug 28, 2011I have a multiseat installation consisting of a single graphics card controlling two screens, with one Xephyr instance on each. Each one has its corresponding mouse and keyboard assigned via appropriate command line switches--evdev is used as the input device driver.
Since a recent "zypper update" (about two weeks ago), this configuration has been having problems: as long as the keyboard and mouse are not being used, it runs fine (e.g., over the weekend when it just sits on the KDM login screen), but when it is being actively used, the Xephyr process will eventually end up in a hard lock-up requiring a kill -9. A lock-up of one Xephyr screen does not seem to affect the other, although both will end up frozen eventually--sometimes this takes only a couple of minutes after the user starts his activity, and sometimes it may work for half an hour or so before it gives up the ghost.
There are no relevant log entries anywhere I could find, and neither is anything reported on Xephyr's stderr/stdout. I have tried downgrading to an older version of Xephyr, as well as compiling xorg-x11-server-extra locally from source, with no success. Only thing I can think of is downgrading to the previous kernel. Unlike my Debian machines though, OpenSUSE does not seem to keep the last few previous kernels for you to boot into in case of problems, and I can't see how to downgrade kernel via Yast2.
Ubuntu Networking :: VNC And Dual Head Setup (separate X Screens)?
Jan 2, 2011I have my computer set up to use separate x screens for both of my monitors and almost everything works perfectly. With this set up I don't have any problem displaying flash in full screen on either monitor like I had with twinview. I have it set up this way so that I can use my TV to display mythtv and still use my computer monitor to browse the web, etc. The only problem is that I use my iphone with hipporemote to give me a wireless keyboard/mouse. When using twinview this was not a problem as it was just one large desktop spread over two monitors.
However, switching to separate x screens seems to have broken the functionality of the vnc server. When using my physical keyboard and mouse I can just move the cursor off the side of monitor 1 to control monitor 2, however, if I'm connected via vnc the cursor gets "trapped" inside the active monitor. I can interact with each screen as expected but if I want to switch the mouse/keyboard focus to the other monitor I have to go to the computer and move the mouse to the desired monitor, which obviously defeats the purpose of using the iphone as a wireless remote.
So my question is this. Is there a way to assign a hotkey combination to switch the focus of keyboard and mouse that the vnc server is controlling? Or could I set the vnc server to only control one of the two x screens?
Ubuntu Installation :: X11 Crash Using Fglrx When Setup Multiple Screens?
Apr 29, 2011After the installation I have 3 screens setup, on DVI, HDMI (to DVI) and DisplayPort this is using and AMD HD5570 video card. With this configuration mirrored everything is fine and I can see all three displays.However having 3 copies of the same display is worthless, so I want a separate desktop per display.This is when everything goes wrong, after making the change to have 3 displays it fails to work, ie it crashes with the message below (full log is attached as well)Now I can use any 2 monitors independently with the third one mirrored, but I can not have 3 independent monitors configured on the card without X crashing. The exact same config, did work fine in Windows (where I verified the setup).

Hardware :: Momentary Blanking Of Screens With Dual Monitor Setup
May 6, 2011I did set up dual monitors few times on few of my boxes, with 3 video cards :
Radeon 9250 AGP (have 2 of them) - with open source ATI driver
Geforce 6200 PCIE - with nouveau driver
In all cases I connect 2 LCDs. one 1440x900 or 1680x1050 to DVI and one 1280x1024 to VGA (all the cards have DVI and VGA out). The LCDs are the same ones tested with all cards :
1440x900 : Benq FP-92W
1680x1050 : Teac T2005L15 (identified as KTC2002 in xorg)
1280x1024 : Proview PQ-721KP
Tried on different boxes runnning Arch linux, different kernel / x / drivers / kde versions
Problem is - in all those setups, one monitor allways randomly blanks for a split second and comes back (incl. switching of the backlight, and displaying the "Source : VGA" or "Source : DVI" title as if it was switched off and on)
This happens randomly, but (more pronounced with the ATI cards) related to me clicking on stuff or the display changing (even if the changes are on the second screen)
With the Radeons only the monitor connected to DVI blanks. And the 2 radeons do it in different frequency, one is more often and one less
With the Geforce only the monitor connected to VGA blanks
When I test with 1 monitor (other one disabled in xorg) : Radeons sometimes still do that to DVI monitor but rare (much less than with VGA connected) (VGA monitor never blanks). Geforce does not do it at all and has problem only when 2 monitors are connected
I first thought its a hardware issue (the cards are from junk), but it happens the same with totally different hardware (exceps using same monitors) so i no longer think it is
There is nothing interesting in Xorg.0.log

Jul 20, 2010It used to be a sysadmin/yast setting wherein you configured the display.It is now done under "personal settings"-->"display" meaning ordinary users can set their own preferences. That's really nice and all, but I'd rather it be sysadmin-only than have to go through several minutes of futzing around with it every blasted time I login. So, how can I make side-by-side permanent either for myself or for all the people who use my system (just me)? Thank you.
This module is only for configuring systems with a single desktop spread across multiple monitors. You do not appear to have this configuration.Since I obviously do and since I can get the desktops to spread across the monitors (after futzing for several minutes).

Sep 25, 2010My problem is that I need to move a moderately complex system from an old system to a new system. The old system is a core 2 duo running on an asus p5k-se (p35 chipset) M/B, Nvidia 8500 gt, 3 x sata II hard disks, 1 x sata dvd, 1 x ide hd, 4GB ram. It runs opensuse 11.1 kde 4 as a desktop system + samba server, apache server, database server + other non-opensuse software. In addition some of the opensuse software is not the default 11.1 versions as later versions were required. The nvidia driver is from the nvidia repo. There are several file systems, some under LVM.
The new system will be a core5 760, asus p7p55d-e M/b (p55 chipset), nvidia 240, 3 x sata II HD, 1 x sata dvd, 4GB ram and possibly 1 x ide HD. This M/B also includes USB 3 & sata III. I have no USB 3 devices but this may eventually change. I have no plans for sata III and believe that it may be better to attach any sata III SSD to the sata II bus.
What I would like to do is to move the hard disks from old system to the new system. What I would like to know is, if the system is left at 11.1, is the system likely to work with the new hardware. If the answer is no, if the system was upgraded to 11.3, would the transfer of the hard disks then work? In order to upgrade from 11.1 to 11.3 using the DVD i believe I should get rid of all non-default repos. I assume that I should also get rid of anything that was installed from them, e.g. the nvidia driver and any software versions installed manually outside RPM. Also is there any default 11.1 software that should be removed either before or after the upgrade to 11.3

Apr 22, 2011I tried to update one of my home machines with a fresh install. This is far from new to me so I did not expect any problem. But I was proven wrong. First: did install the system as usual. First anomaly: system blocked during the install process but did restart it flawlessly one I tried to eject the DVD from the player. It needed actually that intervention to retake working. It then went to install and froze during the first system start. I rebooted with failsafe settings, it then correctly configured. I reached a beautiful desktop. I performed the updates from the update repository and I joined the nvidia proprietary driver repository (which updated to the G02 driver).
I then rebooted the machine and now I am in trouble. In normal mode the system (dual boot Opensuse, XP) does not boot at all and freezes immediately after hitting enter as before. In safe mode it goes further but does not reach X anymore. It blocks with the following line statement: "system console stolen at line 266". I then tried "startx". But the system goes into a scrolling loop that does not allow me to read the output. how to get at least the error message of the loop? I read some line passing by that the system might have an X11 authorization problem.

May 16, 2010Not sure if I'm doing right to post this on this thread but I've got an issue with my laptop screen extension. I have plugged a vga monitor to my laptop for a right display extension. The idea is to put the right extension on the vga monitor but don't why the monitor is know my main screen and my laptop the extension. I have tried to change sides but the laptop is still the extension and not the main one as I want.
Is there a hard way to make this work?

I know it is preferrable to use ssh instead of rsh but oracle requires use of rsh. I get the bios screen and then the ubuntu language screen, but once I select the option to install it get the ubuntu loading screen for a few minutes then a black screen on the T.V. saying no signal. Graphics card is a NVidia Geforce GTS 250.

Oct 6, 2010I have seen posts on the fact that dual screen configuration seem to be a nightmare with opensuse 11.3. As a few already mentioned, it worked all fine with 11.2 and now we are back to. I have two screens attached to my laptop: the standard LVDS and one HDMI high res monitor. It works fine to configure it once but it is NEVER SAVED so I have to do this at EVERY boot. Even more annoying: when the slid is closed, my laptop goes into "no display mode" (black screens) and when it tries to come back to life (opening the lid again) everything is screwed (to use a nice word).

May 18, 2011I'm new to openSUSE, this is the first time i try to install openSUSE version 11.4. on my IBM Thinkpad T43 (on which SUSE Linux version 8.0 has been running before without problems). I have downloaded the ISO images and successfully burned the ISO images on a blank DVD. Having placed my openSUSE DVD in the drive and rebooted my laptop I can see the boot screen.
I then select installation with arrow up/down and press enter. Choosing language and keyboard layout works fine, as well as accepting the license agreement. However, when it comes to 'System Probing' the installation stops at 'Search for system files'. The cursor shows a little turning disk but the rest of the screen is blocked.

Jun 10, 2011I tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 but after I enabled my second monitor through nVidia settings I couldn't boot. At that point I didn't know the problem had to do with that. I tried to reinstall Ubuntu but the install hanged so I downloaded and tried Mint thinking that the CD was defect. Now after enabling the second monitor via nVidia Settings I can't boot still. OpenSUSE Install :: Transfer Users From Old System To New Installed System?
Jul 19, 2010we have a server running with Suse linux many years. Meanwhile we changed server hardware about 4 times, mostly also updating to newest Suse version. We used to copy group, passwd and shadow to a backup medium, installed the new system and restored those files onto the new system and all was running fine. Now, some weeks ago we installed 11. on new hardware and after restoring those 3 files after rebooting the system hangs when starting GUI. I can boot into runlevel 3 and login with no problem, but when I boot into runlevel 5 mouse and keyboard are frozen. Also when starting GUI from runlevel 3 with startx mouse and keyboard immediately freeze. If I restore the files group, passwd and shadow as they came from fresh new installation I can reboot and login in runlevel 5 without problems.
OK, if I compare the userlist, as it is generated bei installation,there are some usernames I formerly not had in older Suse versions. I don�t know if this can make problems? I tried to edit the files, to combine the system users from 11.2 with the list of local user names from the old system but without success, again the mouse and keyboard freeze.So some questions arise:1) Why now mouse and keyboard freeze in xsystem, when there are changes in the user list (but only in runlevel 5)2) What is the correct way to save and restore users and groups from old to new system. I googled several hours but did not find a smart way. Maybee someon can point me to a link or a howto where I find the solution
